Sathenus
Name: Gabriel Nickname: Gabe Age: 21 Kilren: Gabriel glanced back over his shoulder to where his massive companion was closely watching the river flowing by, already he felt like this was a chance he shouldn't be taking. He had to run off to collect a few things for camp, but in doing so it meant leaving his beloved dragon behind to guard the area. Normally that wouldn't unnerve him, but since a problem arouse with groups of rogue Dragon Hunter's running around hunting and killing bonded dragons he couldn't help but be a little worried. It wasn't even that he didn't think the other could defend himself -Kilren was more than up to doing so- it was just the worry he had for his friend. It was then that he felt calmness come over him and he laughed shaking his head, "You always know when I am getting ahead of myself don't you buddy?" he said in an amused tone to the golden beast that had since laid down and now had a massive clawed foot dipped into the cool water streaming past him. "You worry to much." came the deep voice as he met the amber eyes looking back at him, he was always a bit amazed by the other's eyes considering they were only a shade or two off of his own honey. For a moment he stood transfixed before flashing a smile, reminding the large beast to watch camp and turned to head off in search of some wood and a few nice sized and sturdy branches he could use as a basis for making a shelter for the night. It wasn't against a Dragon Rider to carry around a tent, however, they very much preferred to build a natural temporary shelter instead and that was exactly what Gabriel planned to do before darkness fell in a few hours. That was more than enough time for him to do so, at least in his opinion it was, and that was really the only opinion that mattered. After all with Kilren able to aid him in preparations it made things go a lot faster, at least when the large creature wasn't being stubborn or prideful, a small smirk crossed his face as he shook his head. mangoboi
Name: Artashir of the Eastern Isles Nick Name: Art Age: 22 Art had never done this before. He'd made many kills in the past, but he'd never yet killed a dragon. Much less a dragon that had a rider. It was going to be a very difficult task--this he knew. He had heard legends of how strong they were--of their fiery breath, their razor-sharp claws, and their protective scales. Legend had it that the scales of a dragon were light but extremely durable and ridiculously difficult to penetrate. He reminded himself of this as he nocked an arrow in place and aimed for the dragon that was resting quite some distance away--most of its visibility being blocked by trees that were in the way. Ah, but Art was a particularly skilled hunter, and was able to aim through the small space between the trees. --- "You're sure about this?" He had asked when his superior told him what he was to do. "A dragon? I've never killed a dragon before. I'm used to hunting deer or bear. Perhaps some other creature, but never a dragon. I don't think my particular skills would be any match against one, besides, isn't it illegal...?" "We're not hiring you to think, we're hiring you to take orders!" his superior scolded. "If we wanted someone who had a mind of their own we would have hired a scholar, not a mercenary. Legal or not, so long as you get the coin it doesn't matter, now does it? Do as you're told while you still have a job, but don't make me regret recruiting you to our lot." Art had sighed and held up his hands in submission. "Alright, alright, I give up. I didn't want any trouble." He really didn't want to get kicked out of his new alliance so shortly after having joined, either. The pay was good, the people weren't too bad, and neither was the food in their little settlements. Art didn't want to complain or lose the opportunity due to pickishness. He'd do as ordered without thought or personal opinion. After all, that was the mercenary way... --- Reminding himself of what had happened and confirming what he was to do in his mind yet again, Art took in a deep breath and released the arrow--sending it toward the dragon's head. He just hoped for the best and quickly nocked another arrow anyway--just in case. Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links.
Sathenus
A familiar sound came through the air and Kilren raised his head, amber eyes looking in the direction that it had come from, in doing so his head moved out of the line of shot. The arrow, however, soared right past his face close enough that his eyes focused on it as it passed by, instantly he was rising to his feet and turned to look at where the arrow had lodged itself in the ground right where his head had been resting a moment before. 'Impressive shot.' he thought as he curved his long neck to look over his shoulder once more not needing to turn his body to look back in the direction that it had come from, raising his head he roared into the air, it was loud enough that it shook the leaves of the trees nearby and disturbed birds. It was a call to his rider, if an arrow had almost hit him in the head then he knew that whoever was behind it had meant to kill him, it was a silly move really trusting such a weapon to be able to take down a dragon. Injure sure, and well placed shot could even blind, but getting such a thing through not just the armor of a dragon's scales but then his skull? That was laughable to Kilren who was now listening intently to the area around him as he rose himself up on his back legs adding tremendous height to his already large stature. 'Gabe better hurry... I know he didn't want to leave me here alone in the first place.' the dragon thought once more listening for the footfalls that were his rider. ~*~*~*~*~*~ Gabriel had bent down to inspect the rather large tree branch knowing it would make a great support for the shelter that he would have to make, the only problem, he would need Kilren to come get it. There was no way he was going to be capable of moving the thick branch, that was why he knew it would be perfect though something so hard to move would mean his shelter would be sturdy and not something he would have to worry about strong winds ripping apart. As he was about to retake up his pile of firewood and other materials an ear splitting roar filled the air, one that he knew all to well, his heart sank and his face paled as he turned in the direction of camp his pile of supplies completely forgotten as he ran off back in the direction of camp. His feet placed expertly to make him as quiet as possible, his hand moving to the hilt of his sword at his side he knew he had to move fast not because Kilren was incapable of taking care of himself but because if something did happen to his companion while he wasn't there to fight beside him he would never forgive himself. From a young age he had always been so loyal to his friend and now would be no different, many didn't understand the bond of dragon and rider. It was to say the least... a life changing experience, to lose his dragon would be like to lose a part of himself, in a way it would have been like he died with him. Over the past few months he had seen to much of that from good friends, he did not want to understand their pain, and he would ensure that no one had to feel such pain again no matter what the cost. In record time he broke through the trees and went to his companion just as Kilren lowered himself back to his feet and lowered his head into the hands that Gabriel had lifted. Stroking the side of the dragon's face he pat the creatures neck with his other hand, "What is it, Kilren?" he asked the creature only to follow the flick of his eyes, moving over to the arrow he bent down and pulled it from where it had been lodged. Glancing back towards his companion he gave him a look sparing only a glance in the direction it must have come from before he turned to leave the clearing once more, he would have to sneak up on whoever had shot at his dragon, and in order to do that he had to manage to sneak back out of the clearing something that Kilren helped do by moving to where Gabriel stood behind him and out of sight. mangoboi
Art knew very quickly that he'd messed up. Not only had he missed, but he could hear the dragon moving about not too far away. Damn! Is hould have known better. If only I knew the first thing about dragons--or perhaps they could, I don't know, teach you how to slay a dragon before they send you on a mission? he thought. After the beast had finished its blood-curdling screech, Art felt it was time to go. He quickly dropped down to the floor and ran. He considered running at the dragon and trying to kill it with knives, but he had a feeling that would be suicide. Not knowing how to fight a dragon, then getting that close to one? He was sure the dragon could bite his head off in a matter of seconds, or burn him to a crisp before he even got there. He felt he would have to perhaps go after one of these dragons a different time after he'd figured a battle plan. The man quickly climbed a nearby tree that was some distance away from the last one, and he quickly scaled to the higher branches of the sturdy plant. It was quite a bit bigger than the last one he'd hidden himself on, and for now he was just hoping the dragon wouldn't pursue. Doubtful, he thought, closing his eyes with an annoyed sigh--frustrated with himself. He was going to have to work something out quickly and fast. How does one fight a dragon? You couldn't really penetrate their scales, or could you? Perhaps the jaw of another dragon could, but not anything Art had on him. And if that was the case, it would be near impossible to kill the dragon, wouldn't it? He figured he should start with the wings and the eyes. After all, if a dragon can't fly, it can't get away as easily. It can't fly high above the ground and breathe its fiery breath at Art where he was unable to follow. If Art could damage its wings, that would be ideal. Then, take out its eyes. If it couldn't see, it would be less of a thread as well, wouldn't it? Perhaps then he might have a chance... though the dragon's scales would still be an issue. Art stayed quiet where he was perched, nocking another arrow and waiting. He just hoped nobody was following--he really wanted to figure something out before jumping into combat. Then again, as a mercenary, and as someone who just attacked a dragon, he had a feeling he wouldn't be so fortunate. So he kept his guard up as best as he could anyway, perched in a new tree that was hopefully far away enough from the other that the dragon would forget about him. But, again, Art knew he was hoping for too much. Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links.
Sathenus
Gabriel slipped into the woods from behind Kilren and moved in the direction that his companion guided him in, ‘Stay alert buddy, I’ll go check it out.’ He spoke to his companion through their link before he darted off in the direction that the large creature had told him the hunter had fled in. Aware that he would have to be careful he moved forward with caution, his hand on the hilt of his sword as he moved expertly through the woods scanning the area around him and even scanning the trees. The angle at which the arrow had hit the ground told him and his companion that it had been shot out of a tree, and rather high up at that, of course if he did find this person in a tree he would just have to have Kilren come knock them out of it. Moving carefully, he would occasionally stop to listen as he went, ‘Do you see anything?’ came the deep voice of the large dragon he had left at camp. ‘Not yet.’ Gabriel replied with a silent sigh his honey eyes looking up as he suddenly came to a stop, something seemed off about this particular part of the woods and he looked around him before his eyes scanned the tree tops. ‘Come on buddy, I need you to sweep over this part of the woods, there is a clearing about five feet to my right land in it when you are done.’ Gabriel ordered before he shifted feeling like he should be prepared for someone to come out of nowhere. It wasn’t even a full two minutes before the shadow of Kilren blanketed this section of the forest in darkness, Gabriel’s eyes adjusting quickly as he looked around before he heard the telltale signs of Kilren landing in the clearing a few feet away. After another sweep he moved over to him, “Well, we’ll keep searching buddy. Didn’t nick you did it?” he asked patting the golden beasts massive shoulder as the dragon’s long neck curved to bring his companions face just a foot from his own. He looked over the scales on the right side of his dragon’s face, they seemed to be just fine, there was no little scrape to show that the arrow had even connected telling him that Kilren had been fast enough to avoid it. “I’m fine.” Came the deep reply making him smile, “I’m going to fly around the area one more time, maybe knock him out of whatever tree he’s hiding in with my wings.” At that Kilren took off and Gabriel just nodded, the wind caused by the beat of a dragon’s wings was often enough to knock anyone down, but a rider was used to it and learned quickly how to keep themselves steady. This hunter, unless having face a dragon before probably didn’t though and Gabriel had to admit he would hate to be him when knocked out of a tree by the beat of a dragon’s wings. Suddenly hoping the guy wasn’t to high up he shrugged and listened, waiting to hear if he could hear any such sound. Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links.
