"To my displeasure," she sighed quietly as Katsu was leaning in. She bowed her head gently before striding into the room and taking her seat. The whispers got louder as everyone fanned over the two most popular kids in the school. Kansei shouldn't have said anything but he did and now the info of how much he hated attention was in the hands of the guy that seemed to hate her just as much her, attention. There was nothing the girl could do now.

The class started and thankfully, instead of gym today, they had a normal health class so thay was certainly helpful. Every time they turned or moved anywhere, Kansas made a conscious choice to avoid Katsu at all costs. Of course, when lunch came, he jumped up and took his lunch straight to the roof. It was cloudy and rather cold but it was not raining and thay was all he cared about. He went up and climbed the latter to the highest point. Where it was harder to see him should anyone else come.

Kansei settled into a seat. The roof was still damp in ares but kansei managed to settle in a rather dry spot.

After that everyone kept a close eye on both Katsu and his new partner in crime, Kansei Kirigaya. Yet, despite it all he felt she avoided him constantly, but maybe he was getting ahead of himself.

It hit Katsu once lunch started that he had left home without the bento box that day, disappointed he walked down to the cafeteria to buy some bread and coffee. It had been the first time he had taken a walk there and admired the lines of trophies the school set out in glass stands.

The rumor took no break, and soon he too had become the center of attention. Although Kirigaya San took much of the credit his name was now rolling off of people's tongues and that disturbed his peaceful life slightly. Therefore, to avoid the eyes he ate quickly, which caused him to choke a bit, and ran down to the library. It was mostly empty at this time of the day, since students actually enjoyed socializing.

After looking around for a bit Katsu settled on the book titled The Principles of a Master Engineer and sat at the last desk hidden behind a few shelves. From any angle in the library that desk was invisible, he knew since he'd be eyeing it for some time.

Despite the interest in the book, the bread did him no favor, all the carbs made him sleepy and he soon dozed off

"What was the point of that coffee?" he asked as his eyelids slammed down. The bell rung but Katsu was far gone.

Just before the bell rang, Kansei climbed down the later and into the building again as he hurried down the stairs for the class that way, when the final bell for the end of break rang, he stepped right in and took his seat. Ten minutes into class and the teacher couldn't understand why Katsu wasn't in his seat. "Kirigaya, you're ahead in this class are you not?"

"I am sir," she replied gently.

"Then please, go find Masamoto and tell him he's late."

'Why me...?' she thought but put on a normal face and agreed. "Yes, sir." The girl stood and strode out of class thinking of where he might be... clearly he wanted someplace quiet or he'd not have gone for the roof the day before... There were only two other places that he could go and someone would have noticed if he was just outside. One could think he was in the nurse's office but the Nurse would have told his teacher right away.

Kansei arrived at the library and looked around surprised not to find him. Still, he had this feeling Katsu was here and when he walked farther in, he spotted the guy between some books on the shelves. Shaking his head in disapproval, Kansei walked over and tapped the other on the shoulder. "Masamoto-kun, you're late to class. The teacher sent me to look for you."

Katsu wasn't a light sleeper but due to the chair and hard table he couldn't reach his usual level of sleep. His eyes were close when someone tapped him. Slightly he shock his shoulder and grunted,

'There shouldn't be anyone here' he told himself 'Why is this guy bothering me?!' it was annoying enough he was still tired but now someone was urging him to class.

His head snapped up and he reached for the guys hand "Agh! You're a man with a death wish right!" he states before his blurry vision sets and he comes face to face with Kirigaya- San.

He gives her a confused look before releasing her hand, almost as if it had burned him "ah... sorry I thought you were....someone else"

Katsu returned the book back to the stand and fixed his chair.

"Class right?"

Kansei jumped a little when Katsu finally stirred only to grab his hand roughly. Now he wanted to punch this guy awake... Still, the long haired male waited patiently until the other finally woke and saw who it was. Katsu knocked his hand away. "Yes, the teacher had me come get you." He didn't say much more and managed to keep his tone slow and even.

"By the way, are you gay or something because you don't seem to be very... warm towards women... and not even in a normal back street kind of rude but as if being with one might kill you..." he explained keeping his voice down in case he was right. They had a ways to walk and everyone was in class so it was now or never with the questions. It wasn't like Kansei was going to go out of his way to get alone time specifically for this.

He was pretty curious as to why he was so cold towards him.

Katsu cleared his throat to remove any left over evidence that might show he had taken a nap. He let some air down and calmed him self,

'This... Girl' he told himself

"Look at me?" He states "do I look gay to you?" And he did have a point. Katsu did not even appear that way, he didn't dress funky, or talk differently if gays had a specific characteristic he didn't have it. His attitude wasn't feminine, the only thing that he assumed might ever give him away was his credit card history and love for sweets. Even then he had learned to take money out to pay for the love hotels.

This time he addressed her more gently "girls are annoying, they expect special treatment..." He looked at her "some of them, others are walking storms of drama. My nasty attitude filters the best of them"

At this he chuckled "Just don't take it personal, if it makes you feel better I'm this way towards everyone, the only people I ever entertain are the women of my home" then he added "besides what would be wrong if I was gay?"

It might have been him but that last comment, to anyone, would over write everything else he said. Katsu slightly feared he might've overplayed his cards.

"Hahaha I suppose you're right," she laughed finally smiling properly for the first time in a long time. Even she understood that girls could be petty and overly dramatic. Heck, take yesterday as an example when the other girls ran off because they felt a drop of rain even though it didn't start to really come down until the class had ended. Maybe he wasn't such a terrible guy after all, though his personality could use some serious work.

"I never said anything was wrong with you being Gay. If you are, you are. I really don't judge. After all, Gay means happy and if you are happy with someone of the same gender, then go for it. Why should anyone stop you from pursuing your own happiness?" It wasn't like Kirigaya had any reason to judge. He was a boy that looked like and acted like a girl... Most people would call him a freak or gross or something but it wasn't his choice to make.... If he came out the next day as being a boy then all hell would break loose. He'd have to wait until College where he could go far away and start his life over.

Finally, the two made it back to class and the teacher wasn't mad or anything, he just had them take their seats again and continued with the lesson. He didn't even ask to see Katsu after class.

The way Kirigaya stated her opinion towards the subject made Katsu stop in his tracks. There was an air around her of understanding, which was unique in many cases. Although Katsu didn't want to admit it her had begun to look at her differently.

"Thank you" he murmured as they entered class.

It was a normal afternoon after that, nothing new or surprising rather calm he had to admit.

The night Saki and him met again and it proceeded this way for the rest of the month. Sometime they spaced a few days before meeting again, other times it was one night after the other. Katsu had enough practice to come up with clever excuses to be late for dinner or leave in the evening.

It was getting cold now that the months passed and soon he began to wear a light jacket. Exams were just around the corner as well which had him far busier than before.

Each day was the same boring thing over and over again. Kirigaya kept a certain distance from Masamoto but that was practically unavoidable because people would flock and get closer to Katsu while keeping a watchful but distant, respectful eye on Kansei. The two were so much alike and yet so different it was scary. They led such different lives.

The weather grew colder and exams began to set in so Kansei started disappearing to the roof more often on breaks to be able to study in peace. There was a lot of stress, especially since his mom didn't feel like paying for all the schooling and Kansei didn't have a job himself. He just had to deal with getting and keeping a scholarship. Since he wasn't allowed to play sports, grades was the only way to go. It wasn't like it mattered, most of the time he was so bored he welcomed studying.

Now that it was getting colder, this was the last gym class they'd be having for at least a little while since the gym itself was under minor construction to get the roof leaks fixed. It wasn't like they could have helped it... roofs leak.. At least the school had the money to get it fixed right away.

Kansei did as usual and slipped off into the boys bathroom where he could change in the stalls.

Katsu was determined to hit the top 10 rank this semester like he had in his previous school. Back then it didn't determine so much, now it would define Katsu and his future for the new 2 years. Studying cam easy to him as long as he kept his goal in mind the determination would remain. He studied in the library in a small desk that had officially become his. It was individualized so only one person could sit at a time, which was perfect to keep away chatty partners.

Everything was fine, would've been fine, if it wasn't for that last day of physical education. This time the locker room was a bit crowded, not many people just around 6-8 boys, but enough for a little conversation to go around.

"I would play but I feel I'll catch pneumonia" joked Katsu as he was asked for a basketball match. The air in his opinion was far too cold to be running around.

He removed his shirt and tossed it aside and began working on his pants.

"H-hey Masamoto w-what is that?" said one of the boys pointing at his his collar bone area. At first he was confused, and as he looked down more boys turned to see what the conversation had turned to.

Above his collar bone near the neck area was a dark purple and pink spot that answered what all the boys were thinking.

Quickly his hand moved up to cover the evidence "I have no idea" he stated reaching for the t-shirt with the schools logo printed on it. Some guys chuckled and others gave each other glances of understanding, it was not comical to Katsu though.

How could he have been so careless.

"Who's the lucky girl?" asked the same guy with a terrible grin.

"I've never seen Masamoto with a girl though" questioned his friend Sauto from the corner, the question was innocent but it planted doubt.

"Move it boy!" screamed a voice from outside the changing rooms.

Kansei changed quickly and then continued to stay in the locker room for a while since the girls always seemed to take forever making sure they looked good to go out and pretend to over exercise... what a strange habit they had. Finally, he slipped out and rushed outside where the cold blasted him. It was freezing out and he did not have enough meat on his bones to cope. Everyone was cold coming out and huddling around waiting for the teacher who had them do a run warm up... as welcomed as warmth was, everyone was too frozen solid to actually move.

Trying to thaw his knees enough to actually move, Kansei finally got going and ran but listening to everyone's grumbling was just miserable. Finally, he felt warmer on the inside but still frozen on the outside. It still wasn't enough. Getting through gym class proved to be a challenge but something changed in the atmosphere of the group.

Not only were the boys still harassing Katsu about something, but the girls had joined in and were now huddling around him playing twenty questions about his mystery girl. The quiet was certainly welcomed. Kansei felt better knowing he didn't have to deal with the crowd staring at him anymore. Although, while the girls were still convinced it was a mystery girl, some of the guys closer to Katsu started to question his sexual orientation and if that mark was left by a girl at all... could have been left by a guy.

"Don't even joke about that" stated Katsu as the others began to question whether it had truly been a boy. Some girls laughed, they found the thought of two boys appealing.

Some other guys began to talk about their own experience, a few were not virgins and others grunted slightly at their own purity. This made Katsu slightly laugh, which cause a ripple of giggles from the girls. He had never laughed before.

The hickey situation soon died down as the wind grew stronger most of the girls had left them to cuddle somewhere, some people complained to the teacher who handed them a tennis racket and stated

'This is my job'

Some distance away Katsu spotted Kirigaya, he was about to wave at her but refrained from.

"So what will we do in the colder months?" he asked the guys near him

"They said independent study but you know how that can get" answer the other who drew triangles on the floor.

"What is your opinion on Kirigaya-san" he asked the others

"Her!" their attention instantly spiking "well, I think she is beautiful and very smart" one answered

'I'm beautiful and smart idiot' said Katsu to himself

"Y-yeah and she's mysterious that's sexy" added another

"Don't forget independent" stated Sauto

"True..." answer Katsu but it made him question did anyone really knew her "but what about the real her?" he asked and the others stared at him blankly.

Kirigaya took a racket and tennis ball and found no one else was playing so she found a wall of the building with no windows until much higher up and began to play by herself. Her Jump serve made the ball come hurdling back at her at a vicious speed which she quickly reacted to and returned to the wall. The long-haired female knew moving was the best way to keep warm and this was the way to do it.

She hopped back and forth, attacking and returning all over her own hits, angling them sometimes to really make her run around to try and be able to catch it. Her focus was intense and she had managed to completely block out all of the class so even Katsu's look and near wave went unnoticed.

The biggest problem of not playing on the court was the icy sand that made Kirigaya slip, but she caught herself. The only problem was the tennis ball flying at her face as she crouched. While some watching gasped as she jerked to the side suddenly bent over her leg, the ball went past her and Kirigaya had managed not to get hit in the face. However, she did twist her ankle trying to avoid it before having really gotten away from the sand.

The Princess sat back and checked out her own ankle as the teacher rushed over to see what happened. She stood up on her good leg and quickly addressed the issue. "I'm fine, it's just twisted. At worst it is sprained but nothing is broken." The teacher wasn't convinced of her strength still under the impression that she was some delicate flower. "I'm alright, at least I avoided the ball." So true because a direct hit from that certainly would have left some form of mark.

"Look, if you're that worried, I can take myself to the nurse's office. It's not far and walking with someone isn't going to change that I have to walk there."

Everyone turned toward the girl with black hair and the now rolling away perpetrator. To think she would avoid the hit to the face but not the obvious awkward falling condition.

The group of boys, including Katsu, walked over and watched as she stood back up and spoke of her willingness to go to the nurse's office.

This persistence of independence had reminded Katsu of the rainy day when she took off under pouring water.

'This idiot' he stated

Without noticing Katsu stepped forth "I'll help Kirigaya-san teacher" he said not expecting to hear the mans reply. Swiftly he placed her arm around his neck and slightly lifted her up enough so that the weight was on her other foot.

"Hold on"

His free arm moved around the thin waist "No complains here right?"

The teacher went and even agreed that Katsu should help while Kirigaya gave him a rather harsh glare. "I already said I was fine. It is just an injured ankle. Besides, I should pick up my ball and racket before running away," she quickly explained. It seemed her stubbornness wasn't going to get her anywhere and the female had to deal with Masamoto helping her to the nurse's office.

"Thanks for the help," she finally stated when they got about half way there. Her ankle was already swelling and it hurt but she didn't seem too bothered by it. This injury certainly didn't hurt as much as it probably could have. "Is this payback for that time I came and got you while you were sleeping in the library?" She teased a little. Not teasing at all wouldn't make Him a very good girl... always playing the part.

When they got to the nurse's office, the nurse was rather surprised to see what happened. Of course, she focused and started to tend to the injury. While Kirigaya rarely went to the nurse's office, the way the nurse spoke suggested they knew each other at least a bit. The nurse was one of the few who knew the girl's secret after all and since it was such an unusual case, the nurse took notice of who Kansei was. "Thanks for bringing me," she said to Katsu expecting him to just go back and continue class.

'yup' agree Katsu as they walked away 'rainy day all over again'

He did have to admit the smaller girl had such great pride it reminded him or himself, not the full package but still.

"I wouldn't say payback" he added but did not continue. He was in fact thankful for the words she had told him last time. He wasn't out of the closet, and didn't know when he would be, but the little comment added confident to a side he didn't thought lacked any.

He watched the nurse work on Kirigaya, his face unfriendly as usual, a few dark circles under his eyes from the studying and late night visits.

"Ah...sure no problem" he answered looking out the window "I'll take you to the next class when the bell rings"

"Don't worry about it, I have to go back to get my gym clothes anyway. Waiting for me will only make you late. Go on ahead." The nurse, knowing why Kirigaya was making this small attempt to send Katsu away, didn't say anything to interrupt. Normally, the nurse would suggest the help with this injury but if he did stick around, Kirigaya would have to either not change or change in the girl's locker room to not look suspicious. For now, the nurse just focused on the ankle.

Once it was wrapped up, the nurse said that the long haired girl should go to a doctor after school today just to make sure it wasn't sprained... Though, the nurse had her doubts. Kirigaya thanked her and got up to go to get her clothes but of course, Katsu hadn't left yet.... damn.

"You should go to class. The bell is about to ring and I can walk now, this is fine," she tried once more to get him to turn and just go back to class.

"You're making an awful big deal about this aren't you? He said now rather curious. He watched for the nurse before leaning in and whispering "I'm not interested in watching you change.... You are rather under developed" with a smirk Katsu backed away and chuckled.

With this he took his leave, and closed the door on his way out. Some distance away he hid behind a collumn that gave him a perfect view of the nurse's door. She didn't want help fine, but one had to go down the stairs to reach the locker room and he wasn't about to let this chick get hurt, what if he got blamed?

Bluntly he judged his own awkward, even stalkish actions and returned to waiting.

Kirigaya flared and swung her hand at him as if swatting a fly. "That's harassment," She hissed. It wasn't like he was underdeveloped but how was he suppose to know? The girl waited until what she thought was him making it down the hall before standing up. She said goodbye to the nurse and walked out of the room.

Kansei was limping for sure but he wasn't nearly as dramatic as the girls in the school and managed to make it to the stairs... Yes, this was going to be the hard part. Taking a breath, he started making his way down holding onto the rail and making it to the bottom without any problems. Getting all the way up would be miserable but what ever. He was down.

The princess slipped her clothes out of their hiding place and hurried towards the bathrooms. After a quick look and making sure no one was anywhere near to see, Kirigaya slipped into the boys' bathroom again and changed in the stall. It took longer than usual with the injury but he managed and slipped back out of the bathroom to try and get back to class. He would have to text his mom and have her pick him up since walking up hill such a far way would be worse then when it was raining.

A deep frown formed on Katsu's face as he watched the other slip into the guys bathroom. No.... Way

A sly smile formed on his face as he began to reach a conclusion

'This perverted...' Pffs a dry laugh was heard in the empty hallway. Little princess wasn't as perfect as everyone assumed, when he had questioned her original self he had not meant this? A perverted pepping brat.

Katsu waited until she slipped from the bathroom and walked behind her silently

"Now I know I didn't imagine that" he stated leaning against the nearby wall "how many guys do you have on your record?" The comment was crude and was meant to indicate exactly who he thought she was.

Kansei jumped and looked back, stopping in his tracks. No way, did he seriously see him going in and out of the boy's bathroom?! He seemed worried until Katsu spoke about a record and the look just changed to pure confusion. "What are you talking about? What record?" As the Masamoto talked about how he saw Kirigaya go in and out of the boys bathroom, he knew he was busted.

"Look, I have no interest in guys. Take that any way that you want." He tried to turn to run away but of course, the other felt the need to persist. "Please don't say anything!!!" Kansei was really panicking now and he had to protect his secret. "Besides, no one would believe you if you said anything...." He was trying to twist it in any way that might help the situation.

"I know that looked bad but it isn't like I could just walk into the girl's room. Guys have to go in the Boy's room and girls the girls... Please, just don't say anything..." He could only hope Katsu understood.

"Are you trying to manipu...." He stopped after hearing the others words

"What do you mean guys with guys and girls with girl?" This confused him slightly and he couldn't help but fuss with his hair a bit.

"L-look that's weird, I won't say anything but that's some weird fetish you got" he replied "besides I change there, what the hell... Have I ever changed in front of me?" Alarmed he took a step back a light flush on his face.

"First off, It's not a fetish so please stop. This is my Mom's fault and if we were friends, I'd actually explain it to you but I don't see where we are." Kansei was frustrated and trying to explain to the best of his ability. "I make sure to change when no one else is around and what would it matter anyway, we're boy guys....." It dawned on him.. "Right, I forgot... You're gay, aren't you?"

He shook his head and brushed that aside. "It doesn't really matter because I look and have to act like a girl and you're not into girls. Guys can't be into me because I'm a cross dressing freak... I know this but I can't change that. I can't just come in tomorrow with my hair cut and saying that I'm a boy.... Everyone would hate me... I don't like attention but I'd rather positive attention than the negative kind...." This was hard to talk about because Kansei had never talked about this stuff with anyone... heck, he couldn't even talk about it to his own mother who had convinced herself that Kansei was her daughter and not her son.

"Y-you're a guy" now Katsu was alarmed. Although their voices where low it still carried agitation. "How's that possible!"

This was not what he had expected when he caught her walking into the bathroom. He had assumed she had meet with some guy there every other day and they did their thing, I guess not everyone was him.

"Look I'm not gay, and you better hold what you say about me" he says now with an angry frown. Katsu wasn't about to pull his cards out. Despite what she was saying he had to admit maybe she did trust him in some weird un-recognizable way. Why else would she say this?

"I won't tell anyone" he says now listening to the desperation of her voice "I know what you mean about negative attention"

He placed his hands on his shoulder and gave a comforting smile.

"I get nothing from your secret so it's safe with me" selfish as it sounded it was meant with good intention.

"Thank you. All I can say, or rather, all I'm willing to say is that it's my mom's fault for always dressing me as a girl." To say Kansei was relieved that Katsu was willing to keep his secret was an understatement. Sure, he could have put it in better terms but it was probably the best reason if he wasn't gaining anything from knowing.

"We should head to class, the teacher is going to get angry if we are gone any longer," Kansei explained. Besides, they were on history right now and that wasn't one of his best subjects. If he wanted to do well on the exam, he would have to get in that class and get right to work on studying. As a scholarship student, it was no wonder he studied enough to be at the top of every subject... except History.. That one he always seemed to take third or fifth in the grade. Every other subject and he was the top scorer every time.

Kansei limped back over to the stairs and got to work trying to climb up. Walking on flat surfaces and even getting down stairs was rather easy but trying to get back up was a serious challenge because no matter how you try to step up, all body weight would be pressed onto the injured ankle for a given amount of time. Though, putting his injured ankle first and using the rail to lift his body weight up to that step... that worked, but it was slow.

Amazingly enough, he didn't bother asking for help and just worked to try and figure out what he was doing.
