I guess this explained the stubornnes admitted Katsu as he watched the other go up the stairs and struggle miserably.

'Not like I need to help now' he said to himself sounding a bit sexist.

 

Who would've thought that under the clothing was a guy, what a secret?!

His mother must be one hell of a psychopath took around dressing a guy as a girl, specially now that he was starting up the teen years, he was almost an adult! How insane.

The more Katsu tried to understand the situation the harder it got.

 

The rest of the class was easy enough. Then came lunch, and afternoon classes for him. His mind did remain on the cross dressing subject, it was intriguing definitely not something one saw everyday. Then his mind then imagined the other without long hair.

"That'd be pretty cute" he said out loud without realizing

Kansei managed to make it to class but for lunch, he couldn't just walk up to the roof again, he was too sore to do that so he had to just wait. Instead, he had lunch in the classroom... getting an injured ankle so early in the day, talk about terrible timing. He had to put up with it and while it was break, he pulled out his phone and texted his mom saying he needed a ride. The reply didn't come until break was nearly over and of course, it ended up being her decline saying she was too busy with work.

 

When his mom asked why he couldn't just walk, Kansei said it was nothing and turned his phone off again, stuffing it in his bag. Kansei felt horrible now knowing that his mom put everything ahead of him. She was so proud to have the perfect Daughter, but as far as Kansei was concerned, he was nothing more than a glorified trophy for his mom to show of to people.

 

Afternoon classes started up and they were mostly reviews for their exams and so Kansei had the chance to space out and think about other things because he knew everything the teachers were talking about. When class finally ended, Kirigaya didn't pack up right away and she went to talk to the history teacher for a good long while as everyone else left the school. Once the halls were clear, she turned and left to pack her things. The girl packed everything and made her way down to the shoe room where she changed to her street shoes and walked towards the door. Instead of leaving, she stood there for a long while. Anyone who asked, she was "Waiting for My mother," but no one would know...

Katsu waited for the hallways to clear and headed for a vending machine to get a small carton of white milk. His stuff was already packed so he quickly passed by the class room and grabbed his back. His attention was on his phone as he checked a few emails and messages from his grandmother, there would be cake today.

 

His shoes were changed and he headed for the entry. His pace began to slow down once he saw who waited by the gate. Leaning against the white concrete was a thin boy with pretty light brown hair. His eyes were large, cheek bones defined making the blush on his face noticeable and flirtatious. His expensive clothing called the attention of a few students who passed by but his looks were the perfect addition.

 

"Kat" he said softly when he saw the other.

Katsu frowned slightly, confused and even concerned.

 

"Shiro" he said to the other, the cute nick names had stuck even after their good-byes. The two walked up slowly towards each other, Katsu's hand extended but quickly remembered where he was and refrained. The other wasn't so subtle and jumped at Katsu, his hands embracing the other, digging his face on the taller boy's neck. A few students turned at the sign, most of them were damn well away of who Katsu was and the attention was inevitable.

 

"w-what are you doing bastard?" he whispered in a hiss.

"I've heard you're sleeping with someone else?" asks Shiro in a different tone "You said you'd always be mine"

 

"This is not the time and place" continues Katsu as he tries to forcefully remove the other.

Kirigaya only caught the back end of the encounter between Katsu and his mysterious friend. After all, she had been talking to a teacher and trying to make sure no one else was around. It was surprising to see so much of a crowd still around but from what it looked like.... well it couldn't be helped. Kirigaya watched from a distance as she was still waiting just inside the building for her mom who already said she couldn't come to pick her up.

 

This was a little entertainment before heading out, she just had to make sure no one was left around the school... Maybe going to the library was a better way to kill time that way she could stay until the school closed and was kicked out. With a sigh, Kansei continued to watch, unable to hear a word but didn't care because it really wasn't his problem. Why get involved?

 

There was a bench outside that Kansei limped over to and sat down. Still, people were asking why he wasn't heading home at such a time but again he stated about waiting for his mom because of the injury.... He then wondered if everyone else's parents would come and pick them up if they asked... Were they as busy as his mother or did their parents actually care?

"Kat you've never care about me?" asked the other boy exasperated "it was always like this, detached, have you never felt love?" the boy paced now, but the other simply stayed still.

 

This could not possibly be happening, not to him not after he had finally set a quiet life for himself. One thing men didn't do was drama but now here he was taking it from this child.

His irritation grew strongly and he finally snapped

"I've left you because I can't possibly stand the childish shit you have in your life Shiro" he continues "It was clear from the beginning you were never anything to me, you were just the longest of the others, the most modest. His words spat and he watched as the others face died with each other.

"I hope you get what you deserve one day" tears began to fall and after a while the smaller boy took to steps back and left.

 

Instantly Katsu regretted it, but he knew better than to go after him, that would only signify he wanted something else an they were long done.

His eyes were tired, his face drained, but instead of heading home he walked towards the back of the school where tress, benches and ponds decorated the area. It was peaceful there and quiet, but mainly empty. His back leaned against a large tree and he slightly let his hair fall enough to cover his eyes.

Despite his best attempts Katsu couldn't hold back the sobs and hot tears ran down his cold skin. All his attention remained on the ache in his chest, which caused him to ignore the figure sitting on the others side's tree bench.

Even without being able to hear, Kansei understood what happened and the way they both reacted proved something terrible happened. They had some kind of history and now, it was ending. Katsu came and leaned against the tree crying right in front of the long-haired boy. In an attempt to show respect, Kansei pulled out a book and started reading it as if he hadn't noticed the other crying before him. There was no way that prideful boy would want to show such a weak side to Kansei, male or female.

 

When Katsu finally calmed down, Kansei lowered his book and looked up. "What are you still doing here at school?!" He asked as if he was only just now noticing that Masamoto was standing there. "You should head home before your mom wonders why you're so late. Besides, it started getting dark earlier so you certainly don't want to have to walk home at night, it's even colder when the sun goes down."

 

It wasn't like it wasn't already freezing, it was but Kansei put up with it and returned to his book once again showing he was in no rush to hurry off. He still had to make it look like he was waiting for someone who refused to come.

Katsu looked towards the other and his book.

"I could ask the same to you" he says not bother about his display, or the attempt to ignore. He guessed since it was Kirigaya it was fine.

A message run on his phone

Mom: should I get you?

 

He quickly typed yes, and returned it to his pocket. Katsu walked over and sat next to the male. He noticed the slowly cold growing afternoon, and the other factors that indicated something was wrong.

"Kirigaya, what are you doing here?" Katsu did not face the boy but simply say there, feeling their closeness and the heat of their bodies.

It occurred to Katsu that removing his jacket and handing it to the other would be a good idea. He placed it over Kirigaya's legs.

"Your skirt won't cover much, just take it"

"Don't you worry about me, I'm just waiting for my mom. She got out of work late so I have to stay at the school since walking home isn't an option." Lying came so naturally now that it even scared Kirigaya a bit. Still, Kansei smiled and told his lie only to have Katsu place his jacket over the boy's bare knees. It was such a nice gesture but how could he accept now that Katsu knew he wasn't actually a girl.

 

"I told you not to worry. I'm not some fragile girl," Of course, that was also half a lie... at least it was a truth that covered up the fact that he was already cold, his knees had been turning pink and his nose a bit red. "Guess this is what I get for forgetting my scarf today!" He laughed but clearly was welcoming the extra warmth from the jacket.

 

Kansei closed his eyes for a moment just thinking and enjoying the moment. He shouldn't have to lie or be fake, he was with someone now who knew his secret, who was willing to keep it. This was the first time he'd ever felt like this and it was one of the greatest moments he'd ever had. They weren't even talking about 'that' or much at all for that matter, but it was enough to have him sitting here knowing that he knew the secret that Kansei had hid from everyone his age until just today. Who knew getting injured with nothing but a sprain could do so much to change his life.

The silence was welcoming and calming. It was funny how they, sort of, had grown together. Friends? maybe not but definitely something since he was holding a secret for the other boy that could literally define his life.

 

"Say why don't I take you home?" asks Katsu after some time of waiting.

"Its getting really late and cold, it won't hurt"

 

He had begun to wonder if Kirigaya had just simply stayed behind to spend time.

'Did he not want to go home?' the question lingered in his head but he did not say anything.

"I think I've troubled you enough today. After all, you basically missed class, had to walk me to the nurse's office, and you just gave me your jacket. I don't want to trouble you any more than this. I can wait for my mom, she's just running late, that's all." Kirigaya wanted to take him up on his offer but didn't want him to go out of his way for her. He was such a nice person when you actually get to know him and the last thing Kansei wanted was to put anything else onto Katsu's plate.

 

Kansei didn't really know why he was lying. It would have been easy to just get a ride home and get started on his studying for the tests starting in two days but this story of his mom coming, it just came so naturally to tell even though his mom couldn't be bothered most of the time for anything involving Kansei. Maybe it had something to do with him being a boy because as much as she wanted to try and convince herself that she had a daughter, one look at how flat Kansei was, and his masculine interests were enough to truly anger her.

 

All this, and it wasn't even about his mom... In fact, it was all about Katsu right now offering to drive him home. Why was he so reluctant to go?

Katsu could see Kirigaya had something in mind, not that he could guess but what could he do, force the other?

Perhaps things weren't well at home, maybe Kirigaya needed a friend. Katsu's head kept running with things that weren't always there, feelings that didn't come easily, it was questionable but he could guess since the two had been around each other for some time things such as this might happen.

 

His wait soon ended when his mother pulling up by the gate and gave a light hunk. He looked at Kirigaya one more time before saying.

"You can keep the jacket, I have more at home" he did feel a bit bad to leave him there. Kirigaya wasn't truly a girl, but it wouldn't stop anyone from assaulting him if they didn't know the truth. He grew reluctant to leave now slightly worried.

 

'There won't even be any light in a bit, the sun's almost set' he told himself.

"S-see you tomorrow" states Katsu before turning to take his leave.

Kirigaya saw the car and started to give Masamoto his jacket back but just then, he had told the long haired boy to keep it. "Are you sure? It's still cold and I'm going to be leaving soon." He worried about taking advantage of people but Katsu seemed worried about something else.

 

"Well, thank you for the jacket," he stated and stood up to wave goodbye to Katsu. As soon as Kansei thought the other couldn't see him, he looked around and grabbed his bag to leave. He put Katsu's jacket over his own. It was so warm and toasty. The princess took a quick look around before beginning his walk towards his house. After a few limping steps, he worked to even himself out so it wouldn't look like he was limping. These areas had been dangerous for women recently but Kansei didn't think it would apply to him. None the less, better not to look even more like an easy target.

 

He thought about stopping at the convenient store since there wasn't much food at home but that was probably more dangerous than heading straight home. The main problem now was just the walking. He had to go up hill, with shoes that drove into the swollen ankle out as it was getting darker quickly.

"Who's your friend?" asks Katsu's mother the second he closes the car door.

"Umm... Kirigaya-san" he says with a low voice. It had sort of hurt him leaving the other behind again worried filled his head.

 

"L-lets go home" he states.

Katsu had thought of keeping in touch with the other but he realized Katsu did not have his contact information and cursed himself even more. Once home Katsu bathed and sat on his computer. Through school research and profile checking of some students Katsu managed to pull up Kirigaya's school email.

 

"I hope he sees this" he told himself.

 

Good Afternoon Kirigaya-sama

Have you arrive home safely?

Kansei would have seen the email on his phone if it was still turned on but after his mom txting him that she refused to get him, he had turned his phone off. Now he was just focusing on walking. It hurt a lot but he had to swallow the pain and continue walking. Thankfully, no one was around so Kansei went a long time without seeing anyone, the problem was that it had gotten dark faster than expected and walking home took longer than usual.

 

Just a block from home, Kansei had his first run in with someone. The man was already drunk and was wandering around. Kansei gave him a wide birth and rushed home before he really could get his brain around the situation. The boy rushed in the door. "I'm home!!" He called with no response. Kansei went up to his room to put his foot up and to change into sweat pants and a sweatshirt. He got on his lap top to do some more studying when he noticed a new email. After reading it, Kansei smiled and replied saying that he got home no problems and had already bathed and had some food. Of course most of it wasn't true but whatever.

After the reply Katsu couldn't remember much he feel asleep from how tired he was. The events that day had been exhausting who would've thought that so much could happen at once. Memories came into his head about his past relationships and how one thing had led to another. It had not all been his fault but, no need to emphasize that now.

 

The next morning everything was calm as usual. He walked to school and expected a normal day, it wasn't until he was changing his shoes that some guys from class approached him. Some looked worried and others infuriated.

"L-listen Katsu" says one of the boys "There's um...something people.."

Another boy interrupted him stating "A rumor, tell it how it is, saying that you're gay and you were caught making out with your boyfriend yesterday in front of school" the guys let out some air "It is extremely disrespectful but we couldn't do anything to stop the talk, it everywhere"

 

Katsu's eyes widened at the news, a rumor? Of course, more than 30 people had seen Shiro run to him and hug him naturally some one would've said something.

"W-..." e couldn't even get the words out. It wasn't even that it was true, but how would he prove it otherwise? Katsu above anything did not wish for people to know.

 

It was then that he noticed people staring at him. Some of the guys looked at him in disgust, others appeared bewildered, girls whispered to each other. It was a nightmare and that was the only way he could describe it.

Kansei took some time to study before bathing and going to bed. He didn’t even eat dinner. The next morning, Kansei had breakfast and found his mom was actually home. She felt bad for not being around much the past week and decided to make up for all of it driving her daughter to school. At least kansei had a ride but he should go see a doctor. While not wanting to tell his mom, Kansei finally brought up that his ankle hurt and was brought straight to the hospital. His mom took it seriously.

 

That meant being late for school and Kansei finally made it in the middle of third period. He switched shoes and hurried to class explaining quickly why he was late. The princess was on crutches and apologized for her sprained ankle. She leaned the crutches against her deskand got right into class. There was something going on in the school and the atmosphere seemed off. When class ended, everyone went for lunch but kansei stayed seated for a bit and looked around noticing the dark atmosphere really surrounded Katsu and it was no wonder with the rumor going around.

 

Kansei wanted to know what was going on but wasn't use to talking to people.... but Katsu was different, they could talk. Finally, Kirigaya stood and went towards the other wanting to ask what happened.

The damn thing was eating away his brain, so much that he had sat by two classes with an empty paper and an unused pen. It was ridiculous there was no way he was getting out of this one. The more the rumor spread the worse it got, soon others were commenting on how they might have seen Katsu with some guys in the school before too. People were complete idiots, just to add in on the whole situation they made up a completely new lie, which was what pissed him off even more, if he tried to explain it would come off as him trying to save his back and the rumor would remain. If he did nothing then...well who knew.

 

His eyes watched the courtyard as it filled with people for lunch

'Look at that, brainless idiots' he thought to himself growing with internal hatred.

He was dangerously pissed and could not wait for this forsaken day to end.

"Masamoto-kun?" Kansei said as he got closer. "What is going on around here? The school seems up in arms about something. What did I miss this morning?" He leaned back against another desk making sure to keep off the injured ankle. Once Katsu explained the problem, Kansei thought for a minute before finally saying, "the fastest way to kill this rumor is to make yourself not look gay. Best bet, find a girlfriend." He wished the other luck before going back and getting his crutches and lunch.

 

It was hard to balance everything but the boy wanted to eat on the roof no matter what so he got hold of his crutches and held onto the lunch under one of the handles in his hand. He then worked to leave the room. Kansei made his way out the door and began heading down the hall at a pretty even pace.

He gave Kirigaya a snort before the other left.

"Idiot the point of being gay is because I don't like girls" this did not make matters better and it left Katsu back to square one.

He place his head in the cool glossy wood of the table and closed his eyes. He didn't know how long he stayed there but it seemed that by doing that the talk diminished.

 

He wasn't particularly hungry at all. He stopped thinking about the problem for some time and concentrated in class, he thought to himself that it could be worse. All these people had was a rumor, at least he wasn't Kirigaya who had to dress up as a girl everyday.

And with that a light bulb exploded in his head.

'Of course!'

Kirigaya settled on the roof and had lunch before heading in early due to the cold. He crutched back to class and settled into his seat pulling out a book he had been reading. The boy flipped to his page and was instantly stopped by Katsu. The other seemed to have something going through his head.... did it have anything to do with the rumor? Probably but why come to Kirigaya for advice. He was the prince of terrible situations, there was no way he'd be of any kind of help.

 

"What's wrong? Is everything ok?" He asked nervously. Kansei really hoped something wasn't terribly wrong with Katsu. Who knows what could be going through his head right now.

"Kirigaya" says Katsu as he takes a deep breath

 

This could go very well or very bad. Katsu didn't like women but Kirigaya wasn't exactly a girl. It didn't mean they would date or anything, it would all be a cover up but he could go ahead and consider the other as his guy friend who...cosplayed. Who cares right? the rumor would die down, he would be labeled as the guy who dates popular cute girl then they would break up and go back to their normal quiet lives.

The plan was perfect, but being the son of bitch he was if Kirigaya denied then he would blackmail the guy.

"Go out with me?" he says now more determined than he cared to show. His eyes were on the others face. He took a deep vow, letting his hair fall

"Please"

When the question that sounded a lot like a demand came out, Kansei opened his mouth to flat out deny but then the other came out with the please. He looked so desperate trying to ask... why did he want to.... Kansei looked down at his outfit. He was the prettiest girl in the school and dating would certainly help Katsu with the rumor but still, why did it have to be Kirigaya of all girls? Was it because she was a boy?

 

"Look, I prefer not to date... too many issues come out of me dating..." Then again, the main issue wasn't that big of a problem because, Katsu already knew his secret... the secret that lead to this whole issue. "Why would you put yourself through this? You don't even like girls, you said so yourself....." Kansei thought about it and when Katsu threatened to tell his secret, it really angered the boy.

 

"I'll only do it under one condition. Put a love letter in my shoe locker so when I take it out, people will see... You don't even have to write anything just give me a blank piece of paper in a fancy envelope. Then, we will meet in front of the school and you will ask me then. That way everyone can see and I will agree then." He shook his head. "I didn't think you were low enough to black mail me like that.

"It is because you're not a girl that this decision was not questioned, not by me" he says "Kirigaya this will not tie you to me, it will be considered a friendship behind close doors and it will be a public act on the outside"

He hoped that this would calm the other, he knew it was sudden but he was desperate if it took one day for the rumor to spread and evolve he could only imagine what further things would be said or done as the days carried on.

 

After the words were said to him he held his tongue. He couldn't exactly explode on the other who had just agreed to the craziest most uncomfortable idea of life.

"It is my image I try to preserve" says Katsu "isn't it the same for you" with this he returned to the class room. Getting a love letter wouldn't be hard he would spell out thank you on the inside and get it over with.

"In doing this, my image is already ruined...." Kansei whispered to himself, making sure Katsu wouldn't be able to hear. Kansei was the distant and popular type, while Katsu was more, in the center popular type. They had very different views and while it really wasn't safe for either of them to date, it was for very different reasons. For Katsu it was because he would be settling on one person, and for Kansei it was that it showed he was approachable. Of course, their inner, personal reasons were that Katsu was gay and The princess was a boy.

 

Maybe it would still be ok. After all, Kansei should be allowed to date the most popular boy in school and still keep a certain level of distance between himself and everyone else. This might still work out... But, how were they going to pull this off? Most people would start to think it was a friendship if they didn't actually get any closer... Ya, they were getting a friendship out of this whole ordeal but if people didn't see them as seriously dating, then Kansei would also get a bad reputation of dating gay guys. This was a gamble and they were playing a very dangerous game.

The next day Katsu arrived earlier than usual in school. He approached the others locker and place a beautifully colored envelope inside. The texture of the letter and envelope were rich in texture, the color was a light blue on the door and ended in a deeper royal color.

Inside was a partner it spelled out

Thank you at Lunch courtyard in a neat almost computerized hand writing and at the end there was a small heart to replace a period. He thought it would be necessary. A few people saw what he had done and commented lowly, but he walked away, changed his shoes and continued with his day. The rest would be up to Kirigaya.

 

He did admit this was the first time he would be doing this, fake or not. He was a bit happy, a giddy feeling over filled Katsu and he felt light. How childish but refreshing.
