What did you first think of yaoi when you discovered it for the first time? Did you like it? Where you somewhat taken back or perhaps you didn't like at first. Tell all, tell all. Hehe. Here I'll go first.

I grew up in a Christian household and my parents were against gay rights and gay marriage. At first I was too, but then I discovered that I was attracted to girls and everything changed. I, as you know write, so before discovering my sexuality I wrote straight romance (porno....in middle school...hehe long story). Anyways I began getting into boyxboy love stories but I really hadn't read any yaoi. I was just looking at them in bookstores when my parents weren't around. Then a few years later in the tail end while I was writing the VERY first boy on boy love story I got my mom to buy a yaoi manga for me. I fell in love that day. Now I can't get enough of it. The end. :D

The first introduction to BL was watching Gravitation OAV at an anime review event.

The audience (especially the boys) had nothing better to do but throw jokes. The girls were screaming, squealing and giggling.

I couldn't watch it properly because I had my hands over my hands that time with just peeking through the fingers. I think the whole atmosphere was not really as conducive for me to watch it objectively back then. Whenever Shuichi's face showed up, some people were yelling.."Ah, it's Omi of Weiss Kreuz! He's gay!"

And being a hardcore WK fan as I am, I was yelling back too.."NO!! OMI'S NOT GAY! HE DOESN'T HAVE PINK HAIR, YOU FREAK!"

We barely understood what was going on with the film. But I had a feeling that it was a nice cute story.

So yeah, you can just imagine how it was. It's like being in a wrestling/boxing arena filled with testosterone and estrogen all mixed up together. It was crazy.

It was only when I was home alone and watched the movie M Butterfly starring the gorgeously talented John Lone playing the role of Soung Liling and Jeremy Irons as Rene Gallimard that I fell so in love with the characters. I became obsessed.

For me it all started with Gravitation. A friend of mine was a huge Yuki fan and she kept drawing him and kept writing his name on the blackboard during brakes. :msn_red_fox 15

So I asked her who that Yuki was and she told me about Gravitation. Then I went home and searched for it and I fell in love with Yuki too...:Red_fox: After that I saw Junjou Romantica, and I liked it too.

So, I can say I liked BL since I saw the first ep. of Gravi...

I can understand that. Not a lot of people understand or accept that. It must've been insane. It feels like everyday I hear people bash gays one way or another. So you're not alone.

I can see a lot of people started out with a lot of the same anime. I actually searched yaoi on youtube. I clicked on Level-C and as soon as the sex scene came I was like "Crtl+alt+del Crtl+alt+del Crtl+alt+del" "Esc Esc Esc" :msn_red_fox 2

Here is my story.

I was on mangafox, looking for a new manga to read. Then i came across a genre: YAOI. Curious with that genre, i tried Hyakujitsu no Bara. 0.o What the... OMG! So damn hot and spicy...

Can't get enough with it, i tried to google Hyakujitsu no Bara and i found an Anime of it. i watched it instantly... Uwaaa love it soo much

Again i cant get enough of it i tried to look at the the other yaoi manga and anime. Then i found a lot of so god damn lookin mangas and animes. Till now i'm addicted to yaoi aka BL.

Kudos to Scanlator and Fansubber for introducing me this YAOI genre.. Surely someday i will ask my daughters and grand daughters to read and also buy these YAOI mangas / anime dvd in order to keep YAOI genre alive for eternity..

My first impression to BL was, OK, it's just a yaoi manga. I can't remember the name of that manga, that seme's or even that uke's. All I know that it's conducterXviolinist yaoi manga.

I like playing game with my friend, it is a game to play with two. Actually, it's more like talking to each other, and it's hard to explain so I'll put it just that. My friend, reading a manga and don't want to play at that time, tell me that she'll play with me if I walk around and show what's in her hand to everyone I can see from here.[and yeah, I see no girl, all boys]

I just said "OK. I will" and received it from her. I'm so curious about that manga, what is it with this book? it is something that can't be shown to anyone? So, I started reading it, and then, when I reached the part that seme is XXXing with uke, I think "Huh! Why is this guy XXX with a guy!?". So I asked my friend and she simply told me that it's a gay manga.

I became wordless for a few seconds. "Ok, I can do it, it's just a gay manga" I thought and decided to walk toward nearest group of boys to show it to them. But my friend just stopped me and "OK I'll play game with you"

Now, I love yaoi manga that's about musician! It must be because of that manga for sure!!!!! LOL

For me, I had been looking for anime on animeseason and clicking the random anime button when Kuroshitsuji popped up. It looked really interesting to me, and I began to watch it. I was hooked after the first five minutes, but as I continued watching, I noticed how my thoughts began turning to begging Sebastian and Ciel to (in my head) kiss or something like that. After realizing my own reaction, I looked up their pairing on google, and proceeded to reading doujins and fanfics about them. The thought occurred to me that I liked a gay pairing, but it didn't really mean much at the time. A week later, I watched Hetalia for the first time, and thought processes went along the same lines. I began to want the two guys in a love triangle to end up together rather than one of the guys and the girl. I had to put anime on hold, and went to summer camp where I met one of my best friends. I had brought Bleach manga with me, and she saw me reading it, so she asked if I liked anime. I nodded, and then her second question came-do you know what yaoi is? She's very abrupt. I said yes, because I knew the term by then, and she proceeded to drag me to a bench to figure out how much exactly I knew. By the end of the two week camp, even though I hadn't watched any yaoi during the whole time period, I was in love with it. When I went to boarding school, I noticed they lacked an anime club even though there were plenty of otakus, so I started one, and over time started telling people that I liked yaoi. Everyone was 100% okay with it except my roommate (who it'd be really nice if she was okay with it, since my manga stash is in our room) and some even proceeded to show me certain pairings or funny yaoi comics/pictures. I even found another fujoshi at the school, and it became the main link in our friendship, and every now and then we swap manga. I love yaoi and how it has affected my life, but I wish most people in the world were like my friends at school, and even if they didn't read/watch it, at least accepted it, ya know?

Yeah, I agree with you! Ppl should at least accept yaoi even if they aren't fans :hamtaro-005 (6):

Tell your friends that love yaoi about the forum... maybe you'll bring some here :leaf4:

I was originally into shounen anime (I'm a girl, influenced by my brothers?), then into shoujo. I never dared to read manga until I watched Nana. That time, I was into ecchi and H anime, too, so I tried reading their manga equivalent. I passed by an anime page about a particular shounen-ai: the art wasn't good so I skipped it (thought BL wasnt good). I clicked on an anime that I thought was an H/ecchi, watched it, and found out that it was yuri. I finished it until the end, but I didn't liked it. I went to animeseason, search for an anime (no particular genre in mind), clicked Junjou Romantica. The display pic was cute so I watched and bingo! I hadn't had enough, so I read the manga, then searched for more. I became a fujoshi since then. ;)

I don't have a friend that like yaoi, though I always tell them to try because it is superb.. I said atleast try Mousou Shoujo Otakukei. Tssssk. So now, I'm enjoying my pleasure alone. ;)

My First Impression was..I LOVE IT!...Thats because I saw an advertisment ofJunjou Romantica..

Then..I said.."Is that a boy and a boy?".. so I decided to watch the anime to know if those were really boys.

then..I watched the first episode and said..Aiiiieee..I Love It! and thats how I love Yaoi!

But..no one in my family knows I Love Yaoi..They might steal my happiness and they won't let me watch Yaoi anymore...TT^TT..

Yaoi is my Secret only you guys know and my other online friends..>.

My first was Gravitation .I bought a Anime Magazine and with it came a sample anime dvd .

Now I grew up in strict Christian household but for me people that are gay ect didn't really bother me .

Just I lived in a small town so wasn't really exposed to it .

So I have to say I didn't hate it - I was in shock XD my face was all flushed and I'm like wow they kissed .

And I'm like should I keep this disc ??? I told my B/f at the time about it also a anime fan x.x but he from even stricter background . He tells me just throw it away .

And at first I couldnt I mean its a free dvd >_

When we went to the book store I bought my first Gravity manga

But he found out and got mad at me x_x;;; told me next time to return it . Luckily he didn't take it away from me .

So I bought like 5 more ( which all are lost aside number 5 x.x ) and then on very careful to hide them. And I had just got into it so only trusted my best friend online that I like yaoi . And she was real into it so started showing me some mangas .

Over the years I became more open I got tired of hiding what I like . Some of the boys of my home forum give me a hard time but just teasing nothing mean ^^ now its just accepted thats what I like .

The other day I tried I anime and said I didn't like it .

And my friend says of course not its not yaoi :p .

I still haven't watched a lot of anime but have read ^_^ manga over the years. Love the manga one shots I buy at the store on of my faves is "Only The Ring Finger Knows . " Starting to download now some series ^^ can't say I'm really into hardcore stuff ^^; but I'm like that with all anime XD.

I just really love a good romance

my first impression is.. was totally shocked. I have gay friends but..most of them are y'know transvestite so I was shocked when I first saw a yaoi/shounen-ai.. it was when a friend of mine gave me gravitation cds.. and when I watched Yuki kissed Shuichi i was totally petrified. It took me about 10-15 mins to recover.. aside from that I didn't see it coming knowing Yuki's acting really like a straight guy, and all i thought for a gay before was like what I've always seen a crossdressers or uber showy ones that wears thick makeups, so I was totally shocked, you could say culture shock. But right after that I've been obsessed with yaoi, so ever since that day until today am really fanatic/addictive of Yaoi

I live in a state which has a very large population of GLBT there is overall a very open accepting community. So exposure is wide spread, there are gay pride parades and a GLBT film festival every year. Yaoi themed anime and manga was readily available. It's natural to be curious and take interest. Having many friends who are gay or Bi helped me understand all this.

My mom actually told me about a Harry PotterxSeverus Snape story she read and it interested me. So she told me what site she read it off of and I looked some Harry Potter yaoi up myself and discovered I loved it. So for a few weeks that's all I read. Until I discovered anime from some friends at school and my gay boyfriend introduced me to Gravitation.

I was a big fan of the manga-ka Yuu Watase when I was younger, so when I saw her book Sakura Gari I was pretty intrested. I thought there is no way she would write something like that (yaoi). I was very wrong. After a few days recovering from the shock, I came back to read the rest, just out of curiosity, and before I knew it I had read (and enjoyed) the whole series. Things progressed from there...

i've found out yaoi when i started to read some manga's a few months ago. first josei, then some yuri stuff. and i like it at first. better then yaoi. i use to think "well, i'm a girl and they are girls and they are doing stuff that will give some pleasure to girls. of course yuri is better!" (that's when i first started to use the name "yuri", but now i just use it 'cause i think it's cute. hehe)

but theeeennn i decided to give yaoi a try.. i read one that was hot and cute at the same time (that i'm trying to remember wich one was).. and.. well... i'm still here!! hehe

I was looking for anime on Anime season and I opened Okane Ga Nai. I had watched a fair number of gay films so I wasn't shocked or anything but I was amazed at my reaction - It seemed so .... well sexy! The forced sex part made me uncomfortable and I felt bad about liking it at first. But I did like it sooo..... LOL Made me blush and laugh. From there I started getting manga and I really loved that. Now I have several book shelves full of yaoi manga. I kept looking for people that also liked this genre but most places were pretty unfriendly then I found this site! I was so happy to find such a friendly forum. Here I found BL - at first I didn't like it but everybody told me to try Takumi-kun and I really fell in love with those movies LOL

Thank you all :D :msn_red_fox 15
