INTO THE ABYSS

It doesn’t matter how many lifetimes it will take me. As long as I can keep coming back to your side, the time spent in waiting will always be worth it. You are my past, my present, my future. You are everything; then, now and forever.

It feels like I’ve been dreaming a dream. Yet this dream has been more realistic than my reality, in more ways than one. The phantom touches on my skin, the weight of the stares, the whispers in my ears, they are caressing me like an old flame, burning and undying.

I love you, I love you, I love you.

I hear those words wherever I turn, haunting me, filling me, desiring me. I know of the voice but I don’t know of whose. A feeling deep inside, telling me that I should seek and I will then find. But I have always been held back because for what reason should I do it?

Memories are fragments of your life and losing them will post a hollowness that cannot be filled. I only realized that when I lost you.

You will not lose me. Even when I’m gone, I’m still here. I will always be beside you, don’t think otherwise.

I used to think we’ll be inseparable, even if death comes knocking. But why am I not taken? Why have I been living all these time not remembering him? Why am I looking blankly at nothing, yet hurting inside. Those times were the worst part of living this life. Not remembering the greatest happiness in my existence. How I wished I can redo it yet it makes me think it’s fate’s way to lessen my pain. Oh how wrong fate is! It only intensified the pain once I made the discovery of what I have been looking for all those time that nothing else matters. When I have learned you are no longer living and I am all alone.

The wind is cold and harsh. I know he’s waiting somewhere, until I’m ready to be with him again. It is this impatience and longing that makes me wish there’s more to my life than wishing for my demise but a life without him is as dull as a blank canvas; empty, cold, eerily silent.

The sky is dark and bare. It is one of those nights that I miss his warmth. His hands engulfing me into his body heat. His hot breath tickling my nerves. His touches that livens me up. They weren’t able to understand how much you mean to me. Maybe because they haven’t had the chance to love with all of what they have.

A cold breeze, a silent whisper. The darkness is conversing with me.

He is the shadow at the back of my mind. The shadow behind every beat of my heart. He is the shadow with every tear that flows down my face. He is the shadow behind my laughter. He is the shadow of my life and I am his’ in return. We are the pieces of a broken fragment. Now set-apart by the veil of death and only will be reunited until the shadows disappears in the dark; until we can leave walk side by side.

Perhaps it’s the time for me to be at peace for it is what I’ve always yearned for, the moment I lost your smiles.

Please take me to him. I whispered.

The sharpness of the blade, the slickness of blood, the smile on my face. Then it’s all peace and I found you on it.

Backlight in Between

He left the office in a hurry, because of the extra work it would be lucky if he reached the last train. With just seconds to spare he climbed the wagon wringing among the bodies of other passengers who occupied almost all the space, and he placed himself in one corner of the opposing train door. The heat increased with the number of bodies around; frustrated he tried to get away from them approaching the window of the door, leaning his forehead a little to feel the freshness of the glass.

Any moment now they would enter into the underground tunnel connecting the labor district with the residential area, it would be several minutes in which they'll be engulf by the gloom dissipated only fleetingly by small flashing lights placed at a distance within the tunnel closed space. When the darkness overwhelms them, he leaned a little closer and loosened his tie. Suddenly he felt a cold hand covering his eyes and a raspy voice whispering in his ear - Relax baby you look stressed - at that time he felt goosebumps ran down his back. A second hand completely loosened his tie and unbuttoned the top three buttons of his shirt, sliding down his chest stroking it. Behind him he felt another body been pressed against his and a sudden friction that joined the motion of the train.

Despite the circumstances the situation in which he was appealed to a desire rooted deep inside him. This was a secret fantasy becoming reality, maybe he should let it run its course and enjoy the experience. In the shadows, both hands began to caress his nipples and crotch. Slowly he pressed his backside against the unknown bump and they rubbed against each other. Suddenly he felt the stranger slid one leg between his and began rubbing frantically in a race to completion. With a burst of white noise he was disconnected from reality for a few moments. When he came to they were now reaching the end of the tunnel, he felt him as he inhaled on his neck and whispered - sweet dreams - slowly sliding his hands away from his body and disappearing into the crowd.

While recovering his breath, the car began to empty. He settled his clothes and went out the station, clearing his head on the way home. Upon arriving he took a shower, drank some tea and went to sleep. In the morning, while making a smoothie he felt his husband get to the kitchen, sit and while leafing through the newspaper, asked - Good morning sweetheart! Sleep well? Did you have sweet dreams? -.

597 words. Warnings for death, and a brief description of said death by supernatural creatures.

Passage

I was torn into three when I died; two hellhounds seized my legs while a third had me by my neck. Their teeth sank into my flesh and they ripped me apart. I barely felt it, because thirty minutes ago, the reaper had given me a choice: either I went willingly and was spared the pain, or I fought the entire way and would end up like my brother.

“He was uncooperative,” he had said. He had looked so normal, beautiful dark skin, sharp features from where he sat at the kitchen table, staring at me with black, black, black eyes with blood on his shirt white shirt, a furrow on his brow, a scowl on his face. He had looked so dangerous, half-hidden in the shadows. “So will you be obedient, Cain?”

I had stared: first at him, first at his arms, then at his legs, and then back at this face, before I realized what exactly he had said, what all that red meant. That my time too had come.

“Only if you kiss me,” I said. I don’t know why I said that.

The reaper hadn’t said anything at first. And then he gestured me closer. For someone whose presence took up the entire room, like a mountain that wouldn’t feel at ease anywhere else except outside, he moved so much more purposefully than I would’ve thought. He put one hand on my hips when I got to arm’s reach.

Hypnotized, I moved closer, into his space, until I had my hands on muscular, firm thighs, and he had the other sliding to the back of my neck. He pulled me close, and he kissed me.

I felt like the room had become swathed in darkness, felt the warmth of his mouth and his tongue, the stirrings of arousal, before it all started to fade.

I began to grow cold: colder and colder. The quiet passion faded.

“Good,” he murmured, pulling away from me. One thumb stroked the side of my face; I only knew the slight touch of quiet affection before I felt nothing. “Just like that, darling.”

Nobody knew exactly what it was that reapers liked to do with human souls. Everyone just knew that they liked to get at it a certain way: rip the physical body clean apart and the soul leaks out; no altar to keep them, no temple to hold them. He instructed me to sit—it would make it easier for the hellhounds, would make it easier for me—because it would all be over soon.

“Why did he fight?” I asked him. “Why’d you reap him like that?”

“Everyone dies one day,” he replied. “But how you choose to determines a few things. He fought the entire way. But you,” he stared at me, “you didn’t, did you? You never do.”

I could tell my time was ticking down. And I had wandered for so long, been someone of all places but of none of them. “Will you be there?” I asked. “On the other side.”

“There’s no other side to the darkness,” he said, stroking my cheek. “But yes; yes, I’ll be there, Cain.”

“Will you guide me?”

“I always have, for all these millennia,” he said, and then he smiled then, a beautiful smile at the same moment I could hear the frantic scratches at the door, the moment I knew the hellhounds would come. “Close your eyes, Cain. It’ll be over soon.”

I did as he said, slipped away and numb, and when I opened my eyes again, the shadows welcomed me home.
