Summary:

As an cruel illness starts to spread around the world, an high secure military facillity, Paradise Falls, in the middle of Alaska starts testing drugs on humans. As the death numbers rise, so does the desperation for the cure. Many humans where killed due to the side effects of the drugs, but that is the reason they are tested. A small sacrifice for the greater good. But even thought the facility is highly secured, one experiment managed to break free. But what happends if a scientist finds him, unarmed and unable to fight anymore?

Name:

#505 or Hayden Faye

Age:

19

Position:

The experiment

Likes:

Ice cream or food in general, cold, rain and silence.

Dislikes:

Annoying people, people who talk to much..... People in general. Can't stand anything that looks like a syringe for a few very good reasons, hates when someone tells him what to do and small spaces.

Personality:

His mood can be all over the place due to the side effects of the drugs.

Other:

It's quite unknow how he managed to get himself involved with the experiments. All he know is that he just woke up one morning tied to a chair in what looked to be a cold basement. Throught out the experiments of the drugs they tested on him, most of them had positive response which made the scientist to develop even more powerful drugs with even worse side effects. After the months with the 'medicine' that the scientist forced him to take, Hayden started to develop PTSD and an addiction for anti depressive pills. Which he now can't live without even one day.

Suddenly a strong light hit Hayden's ice blue eyes, causing blindness for just a few seconds. After several blinks, his eyes managed to adjust to the strong flashlight what hoovered infront of his one eye, then the other one. He really hated the health control just before beeing injected with bullsh*t through a small needle. Not to mention the smell of sweat, blood and other fun human liquids that weren't infact so fun. It stank fear all over that place.

The black haired was not the only one of his kind, sitting in a metal chair in the room. There were maybe a dussin of them in there. It was hard to see as he was sitting in the second row of four and his head was tied with a leather belt along with his ankles and wrists. 'It's only a safety procaution' they said. Perhaps for the scientist and not the lab rats. But one could clearly hear the torture that was going on. Each minute someone was breaking down, screaming, crying, trying to get out of the chair with force, then druged down or beaten to silence by the security.

Hayden was way past those stages. Right now he was somewhere between 'Giving up' and 'not a single fu*k was given anymore'. He was just another sack of meat to get rid of once they were done with him anyway, and maybe that would be the best option for him in this situation. It was the stage of acceptence.

Hayden snapped out of his thoughts as he noticed his forearm full with syringe marks and bruises all over it when he looked down on his arms. There was a total of 29 marks after the needles on both arms. He was sure to count them all when he was in his cell room.

He then looked up from his arms once he heard footsteps getting closer to his chair, only to see a man in a white coat standing right before him.

Name:

Gale Thurber

Age:

24

Position:

Scientist

Likes:

coffee, cinammon, knowledge, making progress

Dislikes:

getting stuck in research, extreme temperature, noisy people, whoever argues without a good reason, strong light directed towards his eyes

Personality:

A bookworm that seems to have his face frozen into place, unable to get jokes, stiff. He however does have a good side, but the people that manage to take his fancy and find it out are an extinct species.

Other:

Gale is in charge of altering the drugs based on the side effects each person experiences, along with their mental state. He is not much of a check-up doctor, using data provided by proper medical staff, but cannot be considered as having 0 knowledge in the field.

Picture:

EXTRA: His eyes are green.

---------------------

It had been roughly two years since Gale finished college and landed the job that he held now. Right from the start, his position in the facility was well-defined, having not changed at all. The genius whose thesis was based on a possible cure for cancer, at least in theory, was quickly received as a researcher here, his job being mainly the creation of new drugs.

In the begining, the screams, cries, sights and smells made him nauseous. After this much time however, he ended up growing accustomed to it. He did consider quitting in the first month, yet stayed, understanding that whatever seemingly inhumane experiments they were conducting here, were in truth for the greater good, not aimed to rescue one person but perhaps millions. One's suffering could not be stopped if it meant letting a million others suffer. In a sense, the blonde had grown blind and deaf to suffering, staring at death with a straight face.

He never administrated the drugs himself. Instead, he let others on his team handle it. Gale was perhaps the youngest of them all yet acted as leader, most of the progress achieved in the past 2 years being a result of his hard work.

Yet that did not mean he never looked at the experiments. His eyes were glued on a raven haired young man which he had noticed long ago as one of his colleagues did his job. The blonde watched from behind a glass of wall, not looking away. The young man, unlike most, did not scream nor cry. He surely was aware of what was going to happen, but he did not try to escape. Surely, the raven was rather strange in Gale's eyes so like every other day, he kept on watching.

Hayden stared at the man infront of him as the man pulled a trolley behind him with a trace. The trace was full with medical equipmen, everything from gauzes to scalpels, syringes and bonesaws for some reason. It had a hospital smell to it as the man with the white coat put on rubber gloves and picked up a small bottle and syringe. The black haired watched every single move the man did. It wasn't like he had any other choice, after all he was strapped down to a damn metal chair.

It wasn't until he noticed the syringe that he started to panic. He had enough of the needles and already started to feel the phantom pain in his forearms after the needle that wasn't even near his arm yet. He clenched his hands into fists as he started to try and break out of the belts that wrapped around his wrists. "Get the fu*k away from me!!" Hayden roared at the man that flinched out of the suprise and dropped the bottle and the syringe. It was pretty useless to try and break out of that chair, he just waisted the energy. But his plan wasn't to break free from the chair, it was rather to get himself into so much trouble that they would throw him into the insolation cell.

Anything would be better then sit in the room and take whatever infected virus they had in the needles. The raven haired glared at the scientist that picked up things he dropped. " Look at you, you can't even handle someone yelling at you! How the hell are you able to maintain a marrige?" He contnued and smiled as he saw the man's hands starting to tremble. "When I get out of here i'll go visit your pretty little cottage not far from here and take a good look at your wife" He added and chuckled as he continued to struggleto get his hands free. At this point he wasn't able to stop the mood swing he was having. It was another one of his weird episodes and his thought inside his mind were going 100 mph. "I'll take a real good look at her!" The man infront of him got up and stepped away as two of security guards came and stopped infront of him.

"Will you shut up or do you want us to do it the painful way?" The older guard asked annoyed as he took of his baton from his leatherbelt and rose it towards Hayden. "Take a good hit princess" he mumbled and clenched his eyes shut, ready to take a hit.

Gale froze, watching the scene in front of him. The young man's calm was gone at the sight of the needle, as if the needle was some sort of curse or filthy object that would cause him a fate worse than death. It was not his job to interfere or even watch that, but he did not turn his gaze away. If anything, he was suprised. A lot of people tried to break free from the chair everyday. That was what the screams and struggles were for. But somehow this was.... diferrent. He did not seem to have gone mad, but the opposite, seemed to have found a way to escape the dreaded syringe. How peculiar.

Someone that kept their brain logical, even if they were not exactly same, was quite a rare thing to observe. Fairly amusing if he were to say anything at all. The security guard got riled up just like the idiotic doctor before him, obviously not realizing he was falling for the boy's taunting like a dumb bull attracted by a piece of material swaying in the wind. They were supposed to have their brains fully functional yet were acting like mere primates, relying on brute force.

Before the guard could hit, Gale had already stepped out of the room with the huge one way glass, walking over. "Alright that is enough. Any more and this one's mental stability will make him useless in research." That was an obvious lie. The blonde was sticking his nose in it because he had taken an interest in the boy. He could prove to be a valuable test subject if properly handled afterall? His behavior was different, so there had to be a reason why. What triggered it and how could he maintain it? What traits were making the young man himself?

"Professor Thurber." He had been obviously recognized by the guard, which was now frowning, glaring daggers at the raven like a simpleton.

"Give him the solitary treatment instead. I will check it with his psychiatrist. Don't ruin this one just yet." Gale's eyes fell on the boy, giving him a small amused smile which was meant to tell him that he had been seen through.

Hayden opened his eyes once he heard the blonde speak and stared at the guards after that. Why was the scientist so nice towards him? It wasn't convincing to him that he just did that to be nice. But at the same time he didn't cared about it in the long run as long as he got away from the syringes. He just couldn't take the thought of the needles and the pain in his arms. Not to mention what it does to him once the virus is in his veins.

One of the guards started to undo his wrists as the other one put on a pair of cuffs on him. They undid the rest of the leatherbelts and grabbed Hayden's arm and pulled him violently up out of the chair. Hayden growled as he stopped right before Gale, looking down on him as he was almost 186 cm tall. "What the hell do you want with me?" He asked the blonde one with a serious look in his ice cold eyes. He stared right into the green eyes of his.

Suddenly he felt liquid running out of his nostrils. A few drops fell down on his white t-shirt and stained it crimson red. It sure was blood.

Gale did not really bother to answer. Answering now in feont of the self-proved primated would obviously be counterproductive. His gaze remained fixed on the boy, which was a good two heads taller or so - with the blonde only 170 cm tall. He did nit even flinch at the sight of blood, more than convinced that it was one of the side effects. Side effects were nothing unusual so nothing he had to freak out for.

"Take him to the cell please. I shall return and bring him the medicine as pill so leave his handcuffs on. I do not want to get bitten." His tone was as bleak as his expression, not betraying anything about his intentions nor pure curiosity as he made his way back to the glass room, undisturbed, no longer paying attention.

In truth, he was wondering himself why he chose to help. Perhaps he was bored of the routine and wanted stronger test subjects. Collecting accurate data from subject that reacted the same no matter what could not provide him with the needed information and the margin or error was quite high, making it less like research and more like a trial by failure and success.

Hayden watched the blonde go back to the room he came from. "Have a good day you too!" He yelled after Gale and frowned as the guard leaned him forward and hurting his arms in the process as they were handcuffed behind. "Pieces of sh*ts..." He added, this was aimed at the guards. Which reacted by grabbing the back of his neck and sqeezed it hard. Hayden groaned and started to walk towards the door with the guards holding onto him tightly. Even though he hated his cell, which was always overheated and with plain white walls, it was so much better then beeing stuck in that chair along with the dusin other making noises by screaming and crying. That was the second worse, right after the syringes.

Hayden and the two guards made their way towards his cell. Once they got there one of them took out his keys and started to unlock the door to the cell. This was his chance. With only one guard holding onto him and the other one focused on something completely different.

The raven haired acted on his instinct to escape and threw his head backwards, headbutting the guard behind him right in the nose. The guard let out a scream and covered his face. The older one turned around fast and pulled out his baton as he reached for the radio to report the incident. Hayden didn't really knew what he was suppose to do in that situation, as he didn't had a plan at all to begin with. The first that came to his mind was to tackle the guard. With his body weight he managed to get both of them into the floor. The guard hitting the back of his head against the concrete in the fall. As the raven haired turned around to the one with the broken nose he managed to swing his baton, hitting Hayden in his cheekbone. He groaned as he spit out blood onto the floor and got up with pain in one side of the head, but with a numb feeling in the area where the weapon hit him. He was almost out of breath already, and still there was one guard left.

The raven haired started to panic along with having a chock after the hit as he gasped for air.

Inside the glass-room was one of the entrances towards the main hallway, leading to the research rooms, each and every one of them loaded with machines and all sorts of samples, some capable of causing a new type of illness outbreak globally in a matter of weeks, with a cure already taking one year to process. The end results of such outbreak would be similar to a still-living-zombie apocalypse, much more frightening than the one despicted in stupid poorly-made or even well-made movies. Being about three meters away of such zombified person coukd infect you, the virus being able to be transmited through air, not only through direct contact or bites.

Ignoring everything else, Gale rummaged through one of the labs' shelves, finding a still unopened package containing 100 pills. The pills were to be introduced next week only, not being something that had been tested. On the other hand, the pills were something he had spend the last couple months on making so the blonde was fairly confident in his capabilities and understanding. It was to work and hopefully the unexpected side effects would be minimal.

Hopefully. It was often that new cures produced worse results than those before, hence them being tested only on subjects that had already lost their sanity. Were they to die upon taking them, the facility would lose nothing.

With the medicine packet slipped inside his pocket, Gale made his way back slowly, heading straight for the isolation room. It seemed that he had arrived just in time to see the raven get into trouble. How troublesome.

Hayden backed away from the guard and crouched down. Beside the uncouncious one, but he noticed a baton and a gun laying right beside him. The older one must have dropped his things when they both fell. Not really thinking straight, the black haired grabbed the gun and pulled the trigger as he clenched his eyes shut, and aiming the best he could while still having his hands cuffed behind his back. The gun fell to the ground as he realised he just shot the guard right in the stomach. "Sh*t...." He managed to mumble as another chock hit him. He just killed two men. Took their life as it was worth nothing. And what now? He didn't knew the layout of the buildning nor where the exit was. Or maybe he did, but didn't remembered it.

Hayden leaned against a wall and slid slowly down to the floor, as more blood was pouring out of his nose and onto his shirt. What the hell did he just do?. It was impossible to take in everything, and his lungs felt like they just reduced by 70 % all of the sudden, as he gasped for more air. It was like breathing through a straw. Not getting enough of air to his lungs he started to panic once more.

All of the sudden Hayden realised that there was a pair of footsteps getting closer. He looked up only to see the blond scientist. He got caugh. What was he going to do?

The gun he used on the guard laid propably a meter away from him, but there was noway he was going to get it in time. Especially with the situation going on with his hands. Perhaps giving up is the best. He certantly had no energy to fight anymore since his muscles were broken down after not having too much movement in the facility.

After all the horrors he had seen before while doing experiments on people, seeing the guards laying on the floor did not move the man in the slightest, not even enough to make him gasp at the sight or at least frown. His expression remained the same, coldly checking for any vital signs with his eyes. There were none. The two were absolutely and perfectly dead. As he thought, it was really troublesome to deal with.

He had noticed the gun on the floor and the slightly unstable mental state of the young man. The blonde was slightly irritated. He had stopped the guards from harming him but he was messing himself up instead. Trule toublesome.

"What do you plan to do now? Kill me as well?" His voice sounded almost bored. If he could not prevent all this, then he might as well back the other in a corner right? Perhaps he would break like the others and his curiosity would be stiffled. That sounded resonable enough. "Kill me? Then what? Will you try to run? Where?" Gale picked up the gun from the floor, looking at it. He himself would be able to pull the trigger as well, were the situation as for it. At least that was what he concluded after picking it up only.

The blonde smiled, pulling out the pills from his pocket to hold in one palm, turning the gun to point towards himself with the other hand, as if in invitation for the raven to pull. He was pretty much gambling with his own life, purely because he was curious as to wether the subject would still maintain a logical mind, realizing that for his condition the scientist was needed, or let impulse control him. How interesting.

The blood from his nose did not stop, it started to get rather annoying and messy althought he watched the scientist as he spoke. The chock and panic started to vanish, all he had to do was to pull himself together and focus on his breathing. After he calmed down he looked at the guards trying to figure out where the keys to the handcuffs are, but then looked back at the blond one as he picked up the gun and pointed it at himself. "Are you stupid or do you just have a deathwish?" Hayden asked staring at him, ignoring the gun as he crawled over to one of the guards and looked trough his pockets for a key. He suddenly realised something. "You sabotaged a crime scene by smearing your fingerprints all over the gun " He smiled at him as he pulled out a key out of the left pocket on the younger guards pants and unlocked the cuffs. "Luckly mine are gone long time ago" He smiled even wider as he held up one of his hands. The tip of his fingers were just blank. He didn't really remembered why or what happend to them, but he had absolutely no prints left. Maybe he was a criminal before all this and he himself did it to his fingers so he wouldn't get caught? It was a reasonable explanation also it would explain he had such a good muscle memory of fighting. Hayden's head would almost start to hurt each time he tried to figure out what he was doing before all this shit happened. But everything before a few weeks back it's just a blur. He wouldn't even know his own name if it wasn't for the dogtags they had.

The man actually ended up laughing, much like a child's laughter, his straight expression melting and being replaced by a honestly amused one. He had been right afterall. The raven was different. He was simply the best when it came to all the other subjects. Gale found himself wanting the data even more now, to the point which he wished to collect it personally. Wasn't that strange? Yes. It actually was, a good type of strange.

The blonde looked once more at the gun before tossing it back on the ground, not bothering with the fingerprint removal. He was now sure that the other had no intention of shooting him. He did not do it when he had been given the chance to so surely he would not try to now. "You know. There are cameras everywhere. They do not need any other evidence but what is already recorded. It was a good way to think though, except for the fact that I did not touch the trigger. Ah. Of course, they can only see not hear."

The blonde's mood was exceptional to say at least. He was excited for his new discovery, as twisted as that was. Gale's eyes however were focused on the raven's nose, which was still bleeding. "You know. Nevermind that. If your bleeding keeps it up, you might bleed to death so no need to even worry about having killed two others. " His tone was carefree, as if he had no worries in the world.

Gale tore out one pill out of the packet- the first one to ever be used. "You do not like needles do you? Yet you need the medicine to deal with the side effects. You are a drug addict. "

Hayden just sat there confused by the blond's laughter. He never acually heard anyone laughing at this place except from one person, and that person was long gone. All he could remember was a shorter shilouette, but the laugh was almost the same. It was really strange.

Hayden pulled up his bloody shirt to wipe away the blood running from his nose, but it didn't even took a minute before his face was messy again, so he just ended up holding his shirt under his nose. It really started to look like a bloodbath. "Maybe bleeding to death is the best rather to stay in this shithole. Besides, it's not gonna stop bleeding until the whole floor is covered." Hayden looked up at the man as he took out a pill out of his pocket. It was a pill he never had seen before and it cought his attention "What is that?" He then asked the blonde.

The young man was truly a bloody mess. Saying he was going to bleed to death was nothing such as bluffing, it was the most likely scenario in this case. It was a common thing that happened to someone that refused the daily medicine, several having died that way. Bleeding your life away was not exactly an easy type of death. The more blood one lost, the weaker would they grow. I would start with the feeling of being light headed then slowly worsen: dizzy spells, temporar loss of conscioussness, possible coma and certainly death.

"It might be the drug you seek. Something that would cause the side effects to grow weaker or vanish for a time. On the other hand, it's a newly finished product which has yet to be tested. It could pretty much bring you death either way. Will you take it? Or not take it? Which is it?" The blonde crouched down, extending his hand with the pill like he had done with the gun before, a small smile on his lips. His green eyes however, showed absolutely no emotion.

Hayden continued to try and stop his nosebleed with the shirt of his. But the blood had no intentions of stopping. As the blond extended his hand, he saw the small pill in the middle of his palm. The little pill looked rather tempting to him. The shape looked perfect. The raven haired picked up the pill and held it between his thumb and the index finger. After a few seconds of hestation and thought he looked at the blonde. Was he playing games with him? " I'll tell you what." He said and looked back at the pill. "If you skip the syringes and needles, I'll take whatever pill you give me."

Hayden wasn't really in a position to negotiate, the blond was only a millisecond from the alarm button on the radio, and then the whole facility would be after him. Not to mention the guards that were lifeless on the floor. Even though the odds were against him, he still tried. After all, the blond must have at least a little bit interest in him, otherwise he would be beaten to a bloody pulp long time ago.

What a strange man. Even in such situation, he did not greedily take the pill in one gulp like the blonded had expected it but wasted even more time to make sure he would not be poked by a needle. Had he not already explained that the pill was supposed to have the same effect as the regurar drugs? Well perhaps it wasn't a good alternative for most, as they would try to spit it out. But for someone like the raven, surely such an alternative was a relief.

Gale nodded, his eyes fixated on the taller male. "If you get on pills, the syringes would indeed be no longer needed. Even if we wanted to, we would be unable to, as the formula used for pills is slightly stronger. Weakening it again would result in the side effects getting about ten or twenty times worse."

Once more, that was not just spewing nonsense. He himself had been the one that lead his team to achieve this sort of results afterall so he was well aware of the product's potency. What he needed to know now were the pill's added or diminished side effects. Due to the fact that it was still in the period of testing, no one could guarantee that the human body would not break down even further under the influence of such pill. That was the biggest risk.

Hayden looked at the blond man crouching infront of him. "But what's the point of having me as an experiment if I don't get infected with the virus? I mean, if the pill is for curing the side effects, they will eventually be cured. What then?" He asked him.

The raven haired wasn't stupid, maybe he was an pill addict, but he wouldn't just take a pill without knowing what it was first. He was also afraid of the fact that they could just get rid off him whenever they wanted and how they wanted. It was the life of a lab rat, waiting for a horrible and painful death only to get replaced by someone else, healthier.

"The virus is a real illness. We develop cures and you are all lab rats. We might have finished the cure for that specific illness but it needs to be tested and stabilized before it can go on the market and actually save people. You would be testing the pill for me and I would be recording your progress or... well whatever other side effect the drug itself causes." Gale did not feel like hiding anything. He did not feel that he had any reason to do so.

"But they all got broken already. Testing the medicine on someone whose brain cannot take a bit of torture would not really provide me with any sort of usable results. I need someone that has the ability to think and notice the differences that occur in their own body. So I am basically not helping you." the blonde's locks of hair shifted as he tilted his head.

"In return, if you survive enough to help me perfect it, I will help you. You will be set free. It's a trade of some sort, but you should consider it quickly. It won't be long until you are discovered."

Hayden just sat there, listening to the blonde. After hearing what he had to say, the raven haired came to a conclusion that he had absolutely nothing to lose. Either a death from a nosebleed or a pill. And the pill sounded much better in his opinion. The pill he had in his fingers made it's way to his mouth as he started to get up. "What are you going to do with me now?" Hayden asked and swollowed the pill without a problem. It didn't tasted good, but it certently wasn't the worst he had ever had, and the blonde one was right. Hayden needed to move his ass away from the bodies.

Gale got up himself, keeping his back to the camera just to make sure no one would be able to read his lips, were anyone to check later. "Me? I won't do anything. You will be the one to do it. You'll handcuff me and take me hostage, holing up in my laboratory. It's a camera-free zone. They will not risk my life you know? I am an important member of the research team. Without me, the formula for what you just took is lost." He was grinning, taking a step backwards as if afraid of something.

"I will pretend to run. I will be fairly slow so you catch up. Tackle me then handcuff me and run towards the direction you came from, pulling me along. It's not hard."

The reason was simple. Surely, even if he requested to get the raven as a personal expeeiment subject, it would get rejected. Mostly because the higher ups would not agree with something that would put him in danger. And secondly, the other had just killed two people. Most likely he would face a fate worse than hell.

His face turning "scared" he turned around, "sprinting" away. Ah. The raven was going to get blood on him.

Hayden couldn't help but snort at the idea and grabbed the handcuffs and the gun. "I'm not fucking handicapped!" He yelled after Gale started to run. "At least try to run for your life!" He then added and started to run after him with cuffs in one hand and a loaded gun in the other. It was of course all acting, but it was just too fun not get into the roll of the bad guy. The gun was just for safty and who wouldn't look mentaly unstable while waving a gun towards the smartest man in the facility?

It didn't took half a second before Hayden aleready had caugh up with the blonde, he was a fast runner, especially beeing this tall.

Hayden glanced up at the camera, so it would film the best angles as he grabbed Gale by the clothes from behind and pushed him towards a wall. The raven haired held him in place with his body. "Feeling comfy?" He smiled, beeing unfomfortably close to him.

Gale was unexpectedly caught faster than he expected. It seemed that all the lost blood was not enough for the raven to get anaemia. That was good to know. On the other hand, his own physical condition was not too great. That is what spending night and day in a room with minimal resting and food did probably. When was the last time that he had run? How many years had it actually been? He could not remember.

The blonde visibly winced as he was slammed into the wall, pinned by the other's loody body. Gale could already imagine the mess that his white lab robe was in.

"Don't overdo it brat. I am the one that might be messing with your pills." The blonde coughed, whispering under his breath, feeling amused by how in character the other was.

Hayden chuckled. "Sorry, you got some virus on your coat back here" He said as he grabbed one of Gale's wrists and put it behind his back, then the other one and handcuffed him. He then grabbed the elbow of the scientist and removed him from the wall. The elbow was the easiest part of the body to control, bend it the wrong way and the person would follow to ease the pain. But his was not the case, even though he held the blond one with a steady grip, it wasn't to hurt him.

Suddenly footsteps were heard from the end of the hallway.

The sound of footsteps made Gale start acting, fake-struggling to break free of his grip. He looked absolutely convincing, actually using his strength to try and wiggle free. "Just fucking let go of me. Get your dirty hands off, fucker." He spoke out loud irritated, wishing for the other to play along.

The blonde would have wanted to have more time to explain where his laboratory was, but he figured that he would simply lead them there while pretending to be pushed around, making them think that somehow the raven had gotten information from inside, turning them one against the other. Quite a fun plan but it would lead to chaos later on, hindering most experiments. On the bright side, his own experiment was going to be smooth and he would be pinned as a victim rather than a culprit.

A win-win situation.
