"Cats? Well I don't hate them, why? Kel asked confused.

Had Laurie got a cat? was that why the guy were in such a good mood?

 

Kel had never had a pet before, he had tried to ask his parents for a pet since he had been five. Of course his dad hadn't allowed him one, and as he had got older he hadn't thought about getting one.

So he couldn't really related to that feeling.

"I ended up with six of them." The brunette giggled, recalling the image of the fluffy furballs. "Five little kittens and a stray cat were hidden in my garden so for time being I took them in. They are adorable. The big one is still a bit scared but I bribed her with food. She's a calico but there is only one furball that looks like her."

 

Ah. He had gotten overexcited. He had always liked animals but never truly had one of his own. He could not quite find the time to care about a pet, considering how he was nearly living in the hodpitals. But now that was changed. It seemed that luck was smilig upon him. Or perhaps he was childish, enjoying all the little things that life brought him.

"Oh..." was all Kel could say, he wasn't unintended.

"Then I take it you gets to keep one yourself right?" Well that sounded nice, the way Lau's eyes lit up when talked about the kittens. He most really like animal, he could just imagine Laurie with a cat.

"Well thats great for you."

Kel knew he didn't sounded intended, but what more was ther to say.

"I will get to keep one only and the big one. I need to find owners for the other 4 when they grow a bit." For whatever reason, Laurie did not take the blonde's reply as a lack of interest but the opposite. He was not sure himself why. Perhaps because he actually answered. Kel stuck him as someone that would not talk at all if he truly was not interested in a topic? Again he could be wrong, but at least that was his impression on his deskmate.

 

"Ah I know. Wanna come over to play with them while they are all still around? They are still really small and fluffy." The invitation was fairly sudden but the young man only found it natural. With a chuckle he covered his mouth with a hand for a whisper, as if ensuring no one could read his lips. "I'll even bribe you with shortcakes."

”Why do you ask me? Wouldn’t it be better to invite one of the others?” He asked confused.

“We've talked about five sentences yesterday, furthermore you don’t know me, I could be a psychopath for all you know” Though the bribe sounded good. Kel was terrified by the thought of going into another’s persons home.

“And I’m not really that big at going home with others.” Kel whispered in a low voice not looking at Lau.

 

He became more and more confused about it all. In a way he had been happy that Lau had invited him, but afraid to.

The guy had probably just asked to be nice because they were desk mates.

All though Kel didn’t wanted to think for Laurie like that, but he had very little confidence in that someone actually would want be with him, after the way he kept others at a distance.

"Ah sorry, I did not mean to make you uncomfortable." Perhaps what seemed so natural to him wasn't quite the same for Kel. Had he been insesnsitive? "You obviously do not need to come if you do not want to. It simply sounded like something fun that you might be interested in." He shrugged. No matter what the answer was, it did not quite matter. He kept his voice fairly low, taking note on the face that Kel himswlf was whispering.

 

In truth, he did not use to invite people over. They were good to talk to while at school and all, but their energetic personalities were a bit too much to handle for long periods of time. He felt at ease with the blonde- not needing to be constantly making small talk and the such. So obviously he wanted to befriend the boy, was that not the natural order?

Kel bide his lower lip in thoughts.

Now he absolutely felt like smacking himself, in some way it had occurred to him, that he didn't want Laurie to dislike him, since he would still have the guy as desk mate for the next few months.

Maybe just for an hour Kel could survive a visit, he just had to see some cat’s right? He could do that, Kel told himself.

“Well I guess it wouldn’t hurt to go.” He said trying to put some confidence in to his voice.

“But just so you know, I don’t know much about cats, but I would still like to see them, if you are okay with that.”

The guy had been nice enough and didn’t seemed to have a problem with Kel’s attitude through yesterday, he could surely give him a little benefit of the doubt.

If Laurie was bubbly before, now he seemed even more cheerful. He'd be absolutely beat by the end of the day but for sure it would be a quite pleasant day nonetheless. After being refused, he did not think that the blonde would change his mind so easily. He was basically blooming. "Don't worry. I've got that part taken care of. Ah. They do need names though."

 

Well he had found them only one day ago so the brunette did not have the time to think up good names just yet. His father was to buy the things that they needed today - a nice bed, a scratching post, proper food for both the mama cat and for the tiny kittens and all the such. A cage would also be necessary in order to get them vaccinated and the such. "The kittens are three males and two females but the big one needs a name too. So I'll be open for suggestions."

Cats names? How would he know.

“wouldn’t it be easier if the owners themselves could name their kitten?” Kel asked confused. The only names he could think about were names like Pumpkin or Confetti for a calico cat, but he wouldn’t know before he had seeing the cats.

“I take it you already talked with others, how could be interested in adopting?”

 

There were probably many who would be interested, particularly the girls. No doubt that guy could get almost anyone he wanted, since he wasn’t bad looking. And yet he had invited Kel instead of a hot chick, weird guy. Anyone know that this would be the most effective way to a girl’s heart, and he blow the chance.

But looking at the guy, Lau didn’t seem like a play boy type, like most guys. He was the more down to earth kind of guy.

 

Kel didn’t look at girls like others did, he knew that it wasn’t his domain. Not that he couldn’t find some girls cute looking, just not thinking more than that.

And it wasn’t because he was constantly attracted to men ether. After his last relationship, he hadn’t found himself attract to anyone, being too afraid of people around his age, had ended his sex life.

Which meant that he wasn’t in a position to judge Lau and he didn’t wanted to.

"Well I have thought about just letting the owners decide but..." He trailed off, his lips getting pulled into a small kind of pout, as if he was thinking about something important. "Calling them A, B, C, D, E would be awkward and... don't you think it would be a little sad? For the kittens." The brunette was absolutely serious as he talked.

 

"There are a few girls interested in them. But I am going to pick their owners properly. I wouldn't want them to be mistreated or abandoned. I feel like it's my duty to make sure they will have a good future since I was the one to pick them up." The girls were good people but somehow they did not particurlarly strike him as dependable. Perhaps there was only one of them which seemed sincere and she was still unsure as to wether her mother would allow her to keep one or not. A pity.

 

One of the guys seemed similarly interested but he was not sure just yet. He would simply search more. There would still be 2 others -not counting the one he was going to adopt- that would need a new owner.

kel looked around the room." Math, Comity, Goargia, peat and Charm" He said, using some of their subjects from class to inspira him.

He shrugged. "Sorry but thats all I could think up."

 

As school finished he felt like all him energy had been sucked out of him. Kel had been so nerves most of the entire day, he had been restless and hadn't payed much attention in class.

He had caught himself druming the table with his pencil, before putting it down.

And now as he walked with Laurie, he still felt that restlessnes inside. He couldn’t believed that he was really doing this.

People stared at them as they walked, and Kel had to put up his hoodi in a try to keep them out. He was nerves enough as it was, even though he did show it clearly.

The names suggested were hilarious but given the fact that Kel was dead serious, the brunette did not laugh. It did take him strength not to, but he managed to keep a straight face. However that sort of bad naming sense was rather adorable.

 

The days went by rather quickly, and surpringly Laurie found himself excited rather than completely exhausted when compared to the previous day. Perhaps he was getting used to it and making a friend was a happy occassion as well. The walk home has mostly been quiet but again, it was not exactly long. "It's here. Come on in." The brunette opened the gate, holding it that way for Kel. The house was not overly large and rather plain in appearance, the outside walls painted in a pale type of cream. The frontyard and the backward were not exactly separated, nor were they large. Neither of his parents considered buying a bigger, flashier house. It was fitting for a family of three afterall and even had spare rooms for guests on the second floor so they were absolutely right.

Kel looked up at the cream colered building.

He didn’t know quite what he had imagined laurie’s house to look like, but it looked quite normal, it didn’t look more different than the other houses. For all he saw, it was just a typical comfortable family home.

It suited Laurie's image, he thought, not meaning that in a bad way.

Just the down-to-earth kind.

Kel walked past the gate that Laurie held for him, before following him to the front door.

 

“Is it just you and your parents? What does they do?” Kel asked of curiosity, trying to start a conversation, in attempt to cover his anxiousness.

"Hnm? My mother is a lawyer so she should be still at work. My father if a househusband? Is that the word?" He laughed happily, not ashamed in the slightest. Sure, the dynamics of his family was different from that of other people but he never considered it a bad thing. It was simply that his parents prefered it that way since it complemeted their abilities. He pushed the door open and let himself in the hallway, taking his shoes off. "He is quite the great cook and real good at chores. Mom on the other hand is quite terrible at any housework." The brunette was definitely speaking fondly of his parents.

 

"Dad? I am home." He spoke loudly, causing a door to open and a head to peek at him from the kitchen, slight surprise in the man's eyes. "He is Kel. I bribed him here to play with the kittens." Lau explained even further, an familiar smile appearing on the man's face. Definitely Laurie's smile was something he had gotten from his father- a man with short strawberry blonde hair and kind-looking green eyes.

 

"Welcome." The man greeted in a calm voice, obviously happy. "It is rare that this kid brings friends home." He chuckled.

 

"Geese. Did you have to say that out loud?" The brunette actually blushed but was obviously not angry.

 

"I placed the kittens upstairs in your room. I'm already preparing dinner but will bring you some snacks up there alright? Ah. Will tea and shortcake do?" The father's eyes fell on Kel- it was not a question adressed to his own son.

Kel hadn't expected that Laurie's farther to be home.

He felt like a kid, wanted to hide himself behind Lau, of the two of them he know Laurie the best.

"Hmm, hallo.." He said in a small voice, to shy to looke man in the eyes. But he had seen the similarity between father and son, that smile was definitely familiar.

It made sense that since the man was a stay-at-home dad, he would be there, Kel thought. There was wrong in that, maybe a bit drifferent but so what.

"Oh... I wouldn't wanted to trouble you sir."

"Nonsense, it no trouble at all." the man smile got biger as he spoke. "Your boys can go up to the kittens, then I'll be right up with some." the man was already taking a liking to Kel. There was something about the him, besides that he was the sweetest boy he had ever meet. The way he acted was drifferent from other boys as his age.

 

As the reached Laurie room, Kel still hadn't gotten his face straight, as he heard the first meow coming from the room.

It was not only the smile that the father and son combi shared, it was very obviously also their eye for people, both enjoying the company of the same kind of humans. Him liking Kel had been completely within Laurie's expectations. Without any more delaying, the brunette lead the way upstairs, opening the door to his room to meowing.

 

The room was rather simple and clean, only containing the necessary pieces of furniture: a soft bed, a closet, a small nightstand and a desk for his laptop and everything else. The room's floor was wooden but a fluffy round rug was placed in the middle, making it look comfortable.

 

Seated on top of the bed and crying its heart out was a tiny calico, the very same kitten that tried to climb onto the flower pot the previous day. It seemed that using the covers, he clawed his way up yet getting back down was definitely something he could not exactly do. Laurie laughed, picking the kitten up and placing him with the rest on top of a new big bed, next to his mother, causing the big cat to open her eyes in alert

 

"This one really loved climbing." he explained cheerfully, motioning for Kel to come over. "The mama cat is still a bit afraid so don't make sudden movements."

 

Cuddled by the cat- and with each other- were five colorful kittens: a calico just like his mother, a black cat, a white and orange tiny kitten- that was surely the smallest of the bunch- and the rest of three a mix of black and white, all five fluffy.

Kel nodded as he slowly sad himself besides Laurie. He could understand the mamma to be aware, being a stray and all.

The kittens were super cute no doubt, and though the mamma was sending some disapproving sounds his way, it didn't stop som of the kittens to look curious up at him. The white kitten with the orange pattern uttered a high whining sound at him. The calico kitten followed its example, before jumping out of the bed and over to Laurie with it's claws in his pants, clearly seacing attention.

"Is really lively that one, is that the one your going to keep?" Kel asked wacthing as the kitten purred from getting the attention.

"Pfft." The brunette chuckled happily, watching the all too lively tiny calico, purring. The tiny kitten was definitely going to the cheerful spoiled kind as he grew up.

 

"Actually I do not think so." Laurie reached out, pulling up the small white and orange cat, which meowed weakly, the mother cat giving the boy glares. "I am thinking of keeping him. He seems the type that needs his mama the most. A shy kitty you know? I would be worried if I were to give him away and-" the young man's bright blue eyes blinked, glancing at Kel then back at the small kitten he was holding in his hands, repeatedly, his cheeks turning a shade of pink.

 

"Hey Kel. I've thought up of a good name for this little guy." The brunette basically sparkled, grinning from ear to ear. "His name also, should be Kel. I don't know why but you two seem somewhat similar."

[M-jow]

"What...?!" Kel felt the heat in his cheeks as Laurie's words passed through to him. "We arn't at all, thats a cat! we don't even look alike."

The guy was so weird... Okay maybe there was some similaritys, not that he would ever admit to it.

 

He looked at the kitten Laurie was holding, in a way he couldn't help but to think "lucky cat".

"Ow...!" He whined shocked, as he was hit by sharp claws at the back. He looked over the shoulder to see the calico kitten crawling up his back, it didn't stop before reaching his shoulder with it front paws and head resting there, while the rest of the cat hanged down his back. It purred happly, but Kel was some how trouble, he didn't wanted the little guy to fall and hurt itself.

He looked to Laurie helpless. "What do I do?"

A loud meow from the calico, followed his question, making him unable no to laugh.

The kitten just continued purring undisturbed, while it"s whiskers tickled at his neck.

Ah. For the first time Kel's cheeks actually had color and his laughter was rather sweet as well. How adorable. He was grinning from ear to ear himself as he placed the tiny orange kitten into his lap, freeing his hands to help the calico properly sit on Kel's shoulder instead of just taking him down. The calico was still purring and he happily rubbed his fluffy head on the blonde's neck, now having way more stability.

 

"I think he likes you." He remarked amused, just watching such a cute scene unfold. "You find a name for that one alright? Since it seems to like you that much."

 

He dropped the topic of the orange and white kitten but Laurie had already decided to name him Kel. It seemed to completely fit the small cat, with probably no name suiting him better. The kitten named 'Kel' curled up in the brunette's lap,not purring but obviosuly feeling safe.

"You want me to name him?!" Hadn't he realized that he sucked at naming. Oh well Laurie hadn't be all that creative ether, it was embarrassing that his name had been used, but Kel didn't wanna talk about it, maybe the guy would change it later.

The kitten licked his cheek, rough tongue tickeld. Yeah this one clearly was an attentions searcher.

Kel petted the kitten as it wanted, the feeling of smooth soft fur felt nice to the touch, and the kitten purred even louder, like a small lawn mower.

He remember som names from his moms books, but couldn't really find one which suited the calico.

And then he had it. "What about Koda?" Kel asked, but his minde was already set on that one.

He looked like a Koda, the kitten was like a happy lovable boy with too much energi, Kel tried not to look at Laurie as he thought that.

"It no good rigtig.." But who cared, as the kittens got they new owners, they would clearly get another name.

"Perfect!" The blonde giggled, feeling rather happy to see Kel -the human- warming up towards the tiny ball of fur. The blonde and the small calico were fairly adorable together, worthy of a picture, but he knew that was an impossible task. Kel seemed the type to be camera shy and it wasn't like they knew each other all that well either to insist, so the brunette simply gave up on that type of thought. "I am sure he loves it. Koda is a good name."

 

With a knock, the door opened to reveal the blonde man holding a tray with two cups of tea and six types of shortcake. The wore a big smile, looking at the two boys sitting on the fluffy carpet, holding the small kittens. He was actually glad to see his son has made a friend, especially a well behaved young man such as Kel. He knew exactly just how lonely Laurie had been despite his smiles and bravery, the boy's conditions unable to disappear from his mind even for a moment. He looked at his soon's hands, as if looking for something, and was relieved to see that they were of an absolutely normal color.

 

"I've brought you two snacks." He spoke happily, placing the tray next to them with a smile.

As Kel turned, the kitten on his shoulder jumped forward Laurie's dad. Kel caught it in middle air before it would hit the tray.

As he caught it the kitten it scratched his hand, making some cuts on his hand. It stinged, but didn't hurt that bad, he know it hadn't been on purpose.

Kel sat Koda down to the mamma cat.

"Well don't you have quick reflexes" The blond mand smiled. " Would you like to stay for dinner? I have made plenty of food." He asked and looked between the two boys, not sure if it was okay that he asked.

 

Kel got all shy again, the man seemed nice and he didn't wanted to be rude, but that was an absolutely 'no go'.

"Ahm... I don't wanna be rude, but I can't, but thank you for offering." Kel bid the inside of his bottom lip before he continued. "I have something i need to do before the dormes doors closes." Kel said as he looked down the carped.

The dorm would first close around 22pm, but he didn't tell that.

It wasn't that Kel didn't wanted too, but he just didn't allowed himself into dare to trying

 

"Well I understand, sorry if it made you uncomfortable, another time perhaps" Laurie's dad hadn't taking it personally at all. The boy had looked uncomfortable with him asking, but if his son keeped bringing him over, he would do his bedst to try persuade him. Especially after knowing the boy lived in the dormes, he couldn’t possible get proper meals such a plads. The boy to looked a bit thin, but maybe that was just his mother hen personality turning on. It had becomed a habit of his.

"I will go back. Make sure to wash tour hands before you eta alright?" The man smiled and closed the door behind him. He was always fairly overprotective- given, he had a good reason to be so- but it wasn't like the brunette minded it in the least. Blue eyes stared at the other's hand however instead of looking at the temping cake.

 

"Kel. Did you get scratched? Come here." He got up, opening the door to the side. The bedroom did have its own small bathroom that contained just about enough one would need: a sink, a toilet, a tub and two cabinets, one for medicine and one for the miscellaneous items such as shampoo, soaps and towels. A blue bathrobe was hanged there as well, making it obvious that Laurie was the only one using the bathroom.

 

"Wash your hands first." He opened one of the cabinets to reveal a mountain of medicine, along with a sphygmomanometer - the tool for measuring blood pressure. The brunette rummaged for a bit before finding what he was looking for: a small tube of tripe antibiotic oinment. "The cats are healthy but they did not have their vaccines just yet so just to be sure, use this on the scratch alright?"

Kel was surprised to see all those medical tools and medicin. It was like a really big first aid Kit, if you asked him. Judging that it was in Laurie's room, Kel couldn't help to think if Laurie maybe had been sick, or maybe his parents were the types to over-do-things.

Well it really wasn't his business, and he didn't know Laurie well enough to ask. But that didn't stop him from woundering.

There where all kinds op pills, he looked over Laurie's shoulder as he went through the cabinet, most of the stuff he didn't know what was. Even though Kel's dad was the director of a big hospital, Kel had never showed interested in medical stuff before.

Of course he noticed something he knew like pain killedes, measuring tools and those things you saw at the klinik.

Laurie had said the his mother was a lawyer, it didn't ad up at all.

Realizing that it wasn't nice of him to be looking over Laurie's shoulder, he went to the sink to do as Laurie had told him.

Kel wasn't worried about catch anything, he had his vaccination, but just on the save side it couldn't hurt to wash his hands extra clean.

 

Kel turned to Laurie as he had dried his hands and took the small tube he was offered. "Thanks." Kel answered and took a bit on to the scratch on his palm.

It stoung really bad making him grimace as it hit the wound, but after a littel he didn't feel it.

"I really hate the stingning part." Kel said as he sad the tube down. "You really havde about everything in there don't you, I bet practical in a way, when things happens I mean..." Kel really took it to far didn't he, he tried to shut himself up but it still became a bit awkward.
