Kotorichan
Royal name: Hyun-Kin Won Peasant name: Kyu Luo-Yong Appearance: Tan skin with long pink hair with matching fox ears and tail. Antlers that grow and shed with the seasons. Bright blue eyes and freckles all over his body. Very lean but strong from living on a farm. Age: 18 Height: 5'6 Weight: 110lbs Backstory: As an infant Kyu was sent to live on a farm in a small village just outside the capital to avoid assassins. He was raised by his ‘grandmother’ who was meant to tell him the truth once he was old enough. But his grandmother died when Kyu was only 14 so he was left on his own. He managed to get by with the help of the other villagers, and expected to continue his life this way. By the time he was 18 he even had a lover. But when he discovered his true identity he was told that he would have to leave that life behind completely. Personality: Kyu has always been very energetic and friendly. He was a hard worker which made his neighbors more willing to help him when he needed it. But when he was brought to the palace that energy caused him problems. He was too headstrong and honest and so was seen as improper. Knowing his duty Kyu did his best to take on his role as prince, but it was so difficult to change so completely. The Chioku palace seemed to go on forever. Endless hallways and countless courtyards kept pristine by dozens of unseen servants. It looked like something from a painting, so beautiful and perfect. But that perfection made it feel intimidating, inhospitable, as if just walking through the corridors would somehow damage it. Stepping into the palace was like stepping into another world, one that man was not meant to corrupt. It was nothing like the country it ruled over, nothing like the place Kyu called home. The moment he had stepped foot in the palace Kyu knew that he wouldn’t feel at home here. He was used to a small hut, old and dirty but familiar. A place where each scuff and stain on the floor represented a memory otherwise forgotten by time. The grand and spacious chambers he was brought to only made his heart ache for the single room that served as his bedroom, dining room, and kitchen all at once. He missed the table covered in rings from the hot cups of tea he shared with his grandmother, or the cushions that had been repaired so many times that there was no longer any trace of the original fabric. But that world was gone. Now he had to step into this bright world where silks and delicacies swirled around him. This was a world he would have to work hard to understand. Since arriving at the palace Kyu had quickly been taught the basics of being royalty. Things like how to walk, how to talk, even how to hold himself. It all felt so unnatural. But he knew that his country was depending on him. He couldn’t just close his eyes and ignore everything. Soon people would need him to rule. These thoughts kept his hands steady as he wanted in the throne room for his fiance to arrive. A man he had never met, a man from a completely different country and species. This man would be his husband, his lifetime partner. Kyu would have to do his best to forget his old lover, the woman he had thought he would be marrying in a few years’ time, Eun. He had imagined having a family with Eun, raising kids to take over the farm. Kyu pushed those thoughts out of his head, he couldn’t think about that right now. He needed to focus on the current moment. He took a deep breath and sat up a little straighter as the door opened for his finace to enter.
Raychu
Name: Quen Puizal Age: 20 Position: Reversible Species: Demon Height: 5'9" Weight: 148 lbs Birthday: March 7th Sexuality: Pansexual Hair Color: Black Eye Color: Cornflower Blue Horn Color: Electric blue at the tips, fade into back at the base. Extra: Quen wears neat, and nice clothes. Though they don't last that way for long. Normally, he has a spare set of clothes around. Typically his clothes are bright in color, representing his flair. Personality: Quen is the type of guy who has the urge to always be moving. Sitting still and doing his duties is a bore to him. He'd prefer to be doing something with his hands, that didn't include reading books or looking over papers. If he wasn't moving, he had a habit of eating, to cure his boredom. Being the type who didn't like to be held down within a castle made of bricks. He would sneak out, and ease his worries in the cold night under the stars. He shows his disdain towards his royal blood with the simple acts of rebellion daily, which simply meant he didn't do anything that he was supposed to do. Quen would not stand for someone to for someone else to have control over his life. Likes: Any sort of food, smaller rodents, stargazing, being outside in the cold, and learning to cook. Dislikes: Petty arguments, having his clothes insulted, sitting still, and being locked in a castle. Bio: Quen grew up in a home with three other siblings. Luckily, he was the second oldest, which meant the throne was to be given to his older brother. Unfortunately his brother ended up disappearing before his coronation. His whereabouts still remain unknown, leaving the duties to Quen, who was extremely unhappy to take the duties. He tried to keep himself in line, only to start acting out in hopes they would pass the work to his younger sister or brother. Even with all his tantrums, he still was bound to become the new king of the demons. Despite the stories, demons had very little magic outside of their realm to begin with, and the fierce prince lacked any at all. Not being bothered by the use of magic, he found himself distraught over another situation. An arranged marriage, one he was sure he would not stand for. Being the one to inherit the throne was a drag. If it hadn't been for his older brother, none of this would've happened. He should've just stayed put. Running away was cowardly. You had your respective duties. Shirking that responsibility onto someone else was low. What right did he have to just escape from it all? Find a new world to live in? Quen didn't want this, he hated the idea of being the one to rule the throne. It was a waste of his time and effort. Unlike his brother, he wasn't cowardly enough to run away... Maybe he was a coward for not running away. Couldn't it be that his brother was grave to abadoning a crown that demanded so much from him? Well, maybe, that didn't make Quen's life any easier. To him, it was all nonsense. Being trained to be the perfect prince. Learning the proper etiquette. Speaking in an appropriate manner. It was just pure nonsense. Behave, stand straight, smile, pretend to care, and never dare defy the teachers. He had no reason to play around with them. He was bored out of his mind from all the dictations of the people. This crown was controlling his life, restraining him from everything he could've done. No, this was his life, and there was nothing that could be changed about it. No matter how many times he threw a tantrum, caused an uproar, or ignored his work, he would still have to return to this life in the end. It was pathetic, to believe a set of parents would just force their child to live as they did, without thinking they would hear a single complaint. Even that didn't help his situation any. His parents didn't even bat an eye to the daily whines and groans. His words fell upon deaf ears and there was no use in trying to convince them. He'd find his way out of this somehow. The thing that bkthered him the most wasn't his teachers, or being scolded all the time, it was a marriage. A marriage to someone he had never met. All he knew was a name, an age, and the fact he was declared his fiancé. This was outrageous. Nothing could make the prince more upset than this simple ring that was to be placed upon his finger. Why were they doing this? A marriage between two would not change the fate of their homes at all. Tension does not cease just from a simple vow. Selling your son out to marry a stranger was beyond recklessness. It was madness. How could the people be so sure that this fiancé of his was trust worthy? They couldn't. Nothing could secure his life from potential danger. Quen was sick of being trained like a dog, meeting endless demands, and being controlled by a piece of metal. No one would hear the end of this. Quen walked with a cocky confidence. That was only a mask. Deep down, he was seething from the thought he is being married to someone he does not know. He didn't believe in true love, he did however believe in finding someone to love. This person took that all away from him, and that anger would not wash away as he opened the door, holding an indifferent stare. The boy in front of him was, well, decent looking. That didn't change his opinion. This boy was, well, his worst nightmare to put it lightly. He could've had everything he wanted, and this boy took it from him, like a their in the night. "Ah, you must be Hyun-Kin Won. I'm Quen Puizal, it's an honor to make your acquaintance, though soon we will be more than just mere acquaintces, will we not?" Trying to force a smile, his lips turned into a thin line. Inevitably this marriage was going to happen, no matter his anger and frustration. Quen gave a slight bow, before standing straight once more. Looking around, he tried his best to not focus on Hyun-Kin. Shifting on his feet, he sighed. He couldn't exactly avoid eye contact with his fiancé forever, could be? Well, he could, the prince was stubborn enough, that would just opt for another scolding. Enough of the lectures for one day. He was already disappointed having to deal with an unwanted engagement. "This is a very nice palace. I mean, that's not much of a compliment is it? You are not as terrible looking as I had imagined," he said, slipping up. Quen didn't meant to say what he had been thinking. It was rude to say such a thing. What were manners anyway? The demon wasn't able to be completely appropriate all the time. It was easier to let out his attitude than keep it in. Hyun-Kin would have to learn how to deal with it. Kotorichan
For a moment Kyu stared at his fiance in shock. He had been expecting the other prince to be just like the rest of the nobles and royals he had met, someone reserved and polite. The relief brought a wide smile to Kyu's face. His smile was the bane of his teacher's lives. A prince was meant to give small polite smiles, barely enough to communicate the emotion, but Kyu smiled with his entire face. His mouth stretched into a grin so wide it made the rest of his face scrunch up. His eyes sparkled with amusement, and he cocked his head slightly to the side. "That's good, if we're gonna be stuck together it'd really suck if you thought I was ugly right?" He laughed, a full body laugh. The laughter was cut off by a cold look from one of his teachers who stood to the side of his throne. This wiped the smile off Kyu's face. The stress of his new life was so overwhelming that having someone talk to him without treating him like a prince made him relax almost completely. For a moment he felt like he was back home, meeting someone for the first time and immediately able to speak with them casually. "Um, I-I mean..." Kyu cleared his throat, trying to regain his composure. "You must be Quin Puizal, it is a pleasure to meet you." He bowed his head, his crown almost slipping off his head. As he raised his head Kyu lightly nudged his crown back into place with a frustrated frown. "Uh... You must be tired from travelling, the servants have prepared you a room... I think... Would you care to take some time to rest?" He glanced at his teachers for any sign of approval. There was no sign of disapproval so Kyu took that to mean that he had done well. Really Kyu wanted spend time with Quin alone. He wanted to learn more about this person and find out if they could get along, at least somewhat. But he didn't know how to ask, or even if he was allowed to ask. For now he would just have to wait, maybe Quin would suggest that they spend time together. Raychu
Astonished. Quen was astonished that his fiance wasn’t offended by his comment. It wasn’t really meant as an insult, more of, the honest truth. The demon was imagining something that was indescribable. He just imagined he was being married to some sort of monster. Quen was pleased to find out that his soon to be husband was decently attractive… More than decent anyway. In the end, what he was fantasizing, was nothing like the image. If his parents had actually described his fiance, he might have been more willing… Not. Even if he was handsome, that didn’t change that his parents were trading him for peace. It was still unfair. His attitude was much more than a mere attractiveness of the face. He was amazed that the guy laughed. Not a prim and proper chuckle, a real laugh. The demon has never met anyone who would break their royal face. Out of all the years he’s been trained to inherit the throne, everyone he met acted like puppets, never once trying to be true to themselves. Clearly, that was boring, and didn’t interest Quen one bit. He preferred a life of excitement and realness. Be fake just to act like a charming figure wasn’t going to be him. The demon was a rebel and he couldn’t put that out over night. There was no need to hide it from his fiance either. “Rest? I suppose sleep would be nice. Unfortunately, I’m not tired. Being in the presence of my fiance, I’d prefer to get to know him, rather than sleep. Would you honor me a tour of the castle?” Quen bit his tongue, trying not to add alone. He didn’t appreciate the other people in the room, silencing unique characteristics. Somehow, someway he would get Hyun-Kin alone, even if it meant sneaking the other away from people. The demon held his hand out, giving an affectionate smile. He didn’t feel bitter about this person anymore, if anything, he was excited that the other acted out of appropriate manner as well. This made Quen feel more secure in the palace. He didn’t have to worry about his unusual attitude and behavior. All that was required was a real person, not a mask, that hid away a personality. Quen just wanted real.
Kotorichan
Relief swept over Kyu as he heard his fiance's suggestion. "Yeah, of cour-" He stopped himself and cleared his throat. "I mean, it would be my honor to give you a tour." He rose to his feet, almost tripping over his clothing. He really wanted to know more about this man, specifically what he was expecting from this relationship. Would the demon want a mistress or to actually sleep with Kyu? Would he want them to spend time together or only when absolutely necessary? Kyu had no idea how this sort of thing worked. He had heard of arranged marriages, but it was something that only nobles did and had never concerned him before. Out of the corner of his eye Kyu noticed his teachers moving to follow him. He glanced back at them and gave them a small, polite, smile. "There will be no need for you to accompany us. I will call for you if I have any need of your assistance." Without another word he turned away and walked towards Quen. The teachers glanced at each other, they couldn't refuse a direct command like that. Not when there was a guest nearby. Kyu looked at the demon's hand for a moment, his eyes filled with confusion. "Um..." He took the man's hand and lightly kissed it. This wasn't something he was expecting. He quickly straightened up, cheeks flushed softly. "P-please follow me." He had to keep himself together until they were out of the room, then he could relax. Raychu
Quen was surprised by the kiss on his hand. He only meant for it be be a simple handshake. This was far more than a handshake. The demon wasn’t bothered by the gesture, it was polite after all. Too polite. Why was kissing someone on the hand a greeting? It was more of a charming move than a display of respect. He would never be able to understand some of the royal customs. They just made no sense in the end. Nothing made sense. Marrying your son out to another just because it will allow for peace and share of wealth, food, and land didn’t click inside his brain. Why would any parent give their kid away for free? Withdrawing his hand, he followed, a curious look in his eyes. Once the were out of the room, his posture completely dropped. Thankfully, his fiance didn’t invite those strange men along, then he would’ve had to kept his act up. Being royalty was difficult. People thought it was full of freedom and wealth, only the latter. Freedom was saying that locking a bird in a cage was allowing them freedom. That was not the case. His life was full of demands, complaints, and wants from everyone but himself. That was not even close to freedom. The civilians had more than the demon could ever dream of. Unfair. “My, my. Could we just escape to the garden? I would prefer to not be trapped in this stuffy castle any longer than needed. How does someone handle a castle that keeps you imprisoned?” Quen ran his nails against his scalp, letting out a loud sigh. There was a reason he had a tendency to sneak out of his own home. Being cooped in a large space made him anxious. No matter the space, he was still be kept behind stone walls. “Tell me, Hyun-Kin, what do you expect from this marriage? Personally, there won’t be any benefit for me. Not that I believe in silly things like true love. My problem is that now I’m confined to someone else, and it’s really for nothing. How do you feel about being married off to someone you’d never even met, setting aside our first meeting for now.” The demon was interested in hearing his fiance’s thoughts. Maybe if they teamed up in protesting this idea, they would be let off the hook… Highly unlikely.
Kotorichan
An audible sigh of relief escaped Kyu's lips as soon as the door was closed behind them. "Yeah, definitely. I hate being stuck in here for so long." He pulled out the pins keeping his hair up in an intricate bun, allowing his long hair to fall free. "The garden's this way I think, then again these halls all look the same." The next question took him off guard. "What do I expect..?" He shook his head in frustration. "Guess they didn't tell you, but I literally found out I was royalty less than a month ago. I don't know what to expect. All I know is that marrying you is supposed to make things better between our countries. But who knows with these people, they could just be saying that so I'll play along with whatever they want." "I was going to ask you the same thing, I thought maybe you'd have a better idea of what to expect from all this." Finally Kyu opened a door that led to a luscious garden. His expression changed back to his bright, natural smile. He loved the sunshine and the smell of fresh air. "Ah... Here we are..."
Raychu
It was no surprised to see his fiance upset after hearing his situation. Quen was infuriated and he’d been training for this role ever since he was young. The only reason he was here today was because his brother left him to run off. The demon liked to imagine he did it for some foolish reason such as love, only to be left heartbroken, dying from the betrayal.. He and his brother were never on good terms. It was an understatement to say that the demon could care less if he brother was being tortured at this very moment. After everything was left in his hands, that only caused him to resent his brother much more. You can’t even trust family. “I expect nothing from this marriage. Not that I don’t expect anything from you or your country. There is nothing valuable that will come from this. Also, I apologize for your circumstances. Had it been me, well, it would have gone over badly. Perhaps I should feel fortunate you are in my hands instead of my brother. He is not the most trustworthiest of demons in my family,” Quen said with obvious frustration. There was nothing more infuriating than having to take the role of the king for a country that was already falling apart. The people did as they pleased. No authority from royalty could change that from happening. The moment they were in the garden, the demon let loose. Not as if he started running around like a wild beast, he just felt more… relaxed. The open air was refreshing, and allowed him minimal freedom. Quen would take what he could get every now and then. “This- I love it out here. I may be very unhappy with this marriage, I would like to get along, if at all possible. I’m not going to lie. I imagined you to be as dull and lifeless as the rest of the royalty I’ve had the liberty of meeting. You are different. It’s pleasing to know someone else is potentially like me.” Quen shot Hyun-Kin a smile, his eyes softening. Just a few minutes ago, he was boiling over this entire marriage. Now, he felt calmed by the fact the other person was just as unhappy.
Kotorichan
"I think I prefer it if you don't have any expectations, it means I won't disappoint you." Kyu laughed softly and stretched his arms. "I'd like to get along too. It's a lot better than the alternative... Um, you can just call me Kyu. That's what I'm used to being called. Hyun-Kin is my 'prince' name, so it just feels weird to be called that." He lay down on the grass and sighed, allowing his eyes to flutter closed. "I wish I could lay here forever... But I'm gonna have to head back to the throne room soon. They've been keeping me on a short leash ever since I got here." ((Sorry that this reply is so short, I've been feeling sort of shitty))
Raychu
"Kyu? What a wonderful name. It's so simple and convenient to a more sophisticated name," Quen said with a smile. His last name was a tongue twister and many people got it wrong. What could you expect from royalty? A simple name? Clearly not. His first name was much better than his surname. People rarely messed up the pronunciation. Unlike his siblings who had humongous names that needed to be shortened immensely. Some days the demon wondered if he was the child his family didn't want or if they couldn't bother making a longer name at his birth. One of the two. "Very bothersome, isn't it? Just imagine being kept chained and tame your entire life. Many people think this life is a blessing. Funny isn't it? It'll look wonderful outside the walls, inside, you'll realize this is all you'll ever get. A few seconds of fresh air before they suffocate you once more with endless trials and tribulations. I hate being royalty. If I was a commoner... The world would be mine." He laughed, only for it to turn into a cracked sigh. This life was a curse, not a blessing. Money and power only got you so far in the world. In his, it was three steps outside of the castle. "How is... How is it outside of here? Never once have I've been outside of the castle enough to see the other side of our country. Every waking second they make sure I'm under control and acting responsibly. I ache to visit my country's villages just once or twice. Is that too selfish?" Sitting on the ground, he looked up into the sky. His eyes squinted from the brightness of the sun. This is why the dark was easier to handle. Quen would easily burn from just a few minutes out in the sun. He blamed his pale skin and never being allowed outside during day. Kotorichan
"I used to think this kind of life would be completely perfect... Never worrying about your safety or whether or not you'd be able to keep yourself fed throughout the winter." Kyu's eyes opened again and he stared up into the sky. "It sounded amazing, but... It's not worth it. I'd rather be back home..." He rolled onto his side to look at Quen, his gaze holding a deep sadness. "I can't imagine what it'd be like to grow up like that... How can you rule a country you don't even know? If you're not allowed out then you won't know what's wrong or if the people are happy or not... It's crazy." "I don't think it's selfish to want to go outside. The prince sat up and moved closer to his fiance, sitting by his side. His gaze dropped to the ground. How could it be selfish to want such a small amount of freedom? What kind of people thought that this was the one to treat someone they were meant to care for and protect? What kind of parent would let their child suffer so much? It was nothing like the world Kyu was accustom to, it was all so wrong. "Honestly I don't know how to describe it, I feel like I've taken everything for granted up until now..." He lightly chewed his lip and pushed back a lock of hair. "What would you like to hear about..?"
Raychu
Quen's life wasn't horrible, no matter how much he complained. He still had a roof over his head, food in his stomach, and a family. Whether they were loving or not was another story. He still had so much. It was hard for the demon, he also had to assume other people had it harder. Having responsibilities was much easier than starving and trying to live on for one more day. The demon imagined that many other people dealt with more hardships than himself. "Everything, anything. We have limited time, don't we? Please, tell me anything that you can before we must head back inside. I'm so curious to know about the outside world," he said with eager excitement. Like a child, his face lit up, and he smiled widely. Having Kyu around may enlighten him about the outside world. It was odd, explaining a placer outside the castle as if it was another realm. That was exactly how it felt to the demon. Another world which he has yet to explore. Maybe if he begged enough or used Kyu as a weapon, he could visit the village in this country? Would his fiance be mad? That wasn't a good idea. Then again, when did Quen ever consider the consequences?
Kotorichan
"Um... Let's see..." Kyu paused for a moment, trying to think of how to start. How could he describe everything that was different about the outside? "I was raised in a small farm village, small enough that I knew everyone who lived there. They all felt like family, more than any of the blood relatives that I've met so far." He tried not to focus too much on that. All the 'family' members he had met were as cold and uncaring as statues. "There was a town about half a day's journey away that I would go to with my grandma to sell things at the market every once in awhile. It seemed like such a huge city at the time, but now I'm realizing it was tiny compared to others." A soft laugh escaped his lips. "I guess there's a lot I didn't know about the world..." "My life wasn't very interesting to be honest. I spent my days working on the farm, helping with the field and the paddy, taking care of the hives and the chickens... It was a lot more simple than all of this, people didn't care about all these fancy manners. As long as you were kind and honest you were accepted."
