shiuhiuman1
I have read the books "Brute" and "Truth In The Dark" before and they are AMAZING! They are somehow like a gay retelling of Beauty and The Beast. Now I want to read more this kind of gay romance, but couldn't find them. Do you have any recommendation for me? It's better if the story is about fantasy.
auser
Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links. "Tell Me It's Real" by TJ Klune.. It's about an overweight guy with the self-esteem problems.. I also remembered a recommendation from Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links. from another thread: 4. Taming the beast by Andrew grey [this is like the gay version of beauty and the beast but it is nice] Maybe this one would be good book for shiuhiuman1 as well? What do you think? I haven't checked it out yet:)

It's my favorite webtoon, and the premise is exactly as you asked for: a very hot seme & a very ugly uke, lots of self-image issues, lots of bullying, there is also one character that went through weight loss. The first ten chapters felt a bit slow & boring to me, but once it gets going.. wow, it's amazing and it's an absolute favorite of mine
shiuhiuman1
Thank you!! I will definitely go check the books out! And I've discovered several amazing books which revolve around self-image issues as well, I will give you guys the list in case you want to check those books out! "Names can never hurt me" by Wade Kelly (My all-time favorite!) "Muscling Through"by J.L. Merrow, (the voice of the narrator is unique, I love this one) "Rattlesnake" by Kim Fielding, "Christmas with Danny Fit" by Amy Lane,(This one is super cute!) "Quinn's Hart" by Cassandra Gold, "The Weight of It All" by N.R. Walker, "Not a Game" by Cardeno C.(This one is a MUST-READ!!) "Pride" by E.M. Leya, "The Way You Are" by L.J. Mile, "Beau and the Beast" by Kay Simone, "For Real" by Alexis Hall (This is not really about self-image, but the characters are deemed as not fairly attractive, but they find each other hot and extremely desirable. And it involves BDSM content, but it's a must-read if you are okay with it)
auser
Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links. thank you for your list & the commentary on every book! It's priceless! Actually, I've been reading BDSM almost exclusively, so I think I will in fact start out with "For Real".. thanks again:) I never thought much about stuff like this, but now it's weird that, while most of the readers of such books are less than perfect humans, the main characters always have white teeth, thick hair, smooth skin & toned muscles. Ideally, the books with imperfect characters should be the norm, no? Authors love to write about flawed emotionally & mentally, but never in a way of appearance. And even the books we do get are only centered on the fact that how dare this mc be fat/short/old/younameit, and that he & everyone around him is a hero when they accept the fact the he is in fact fat/short/old/younameit. Ok, I'm sad now^^
shiuhiuman1
You're welcome:D! I actually like books about BDSM as well! For Real is my favorite BDSM gay novel; the depiction of the trust between the dom and the sub is so precious and hot, not to mention the age gap...! You will find a wicked but gentle, sometimes clumsy 19 years-old dom with an appealing 37 years-old sub in this book. It definitely worths a try:D I can relate to your feelings. It's not easy to find a gay novel discussing or even celebrating the physical imperfections. But in fact, people are in different shapes and looks, most of us are deemed as "ugly" or "ordinary" in this world. And some books only talk about how the physically imperfect mc struggles to accept his "ugliness", as though being different with others is something bad; those books miss the fact that something perceived as "ugly" or "imperfect" by someones is actually beautiful and perfect in some people's eyes. Like the book "Not a Game" on the list above, it's about a man finally realizing that he has no desires for the men with a lean, strong and fit body; rather, he is strongly attracted to chubby men; in his eyes, fat men are stunning and beautiful. Don't be sad:(
auser
Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links. sold! I'm reading four other books at the moment, but I'm stopping & switching to "For Real". I didn't know it, but I needed this book in my life! I love me some age gap, some BDSM & some self-acceptance.. Thanks so much! I'm really interested in Not A Game as well.. For all the talks of body positivity, the word "fat" is still seen in a negative light & not just a description of physical appearance. I get your frustration about the characters "accepting their ugliness", I don't know what world they live in - 100 % of people I know have some sort of imperfection or another & they're awesome nonetheless.. You know what's even worse for me? When the character thinks he is ugly his whole life only to discover (big revelation - drum rolls) that he was hot & beautiful all along.. He doesn't learn that he is good the way he is, nooo he learns instead that he actually fits the society's beauty standards, people around him always saw that & it was just his self-esteem that didn't let him realize how beautiful he is.. Uuurg I hate that trope.
shiuhiuman1
I know, right? As long as a person is healthy, being fat or lean should be considered as the same; neither of them is lesser nor better than each other. I especially like the MCs who are comfortable in his own skin, even though they do not reach the social standard. (I don't like the so-called "social standard"... after all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.) Being confident makes them shine like stars. And I'm glad that you enjoy the book:D! It is a treasure!
auser
Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links. I have like a hundred pages left and so far that's all I was looking for and more! I love how even the BDSM dynamic they've got going on is unique as well - it's not often to read about a topping sub (actually, it's the first time I am reading that^), an insecure dom, a lack of bondage & fancy toys. I love how they pamper & love each other and both share their insecurities, and not just a confident strong Dom helping a weaker sub, which is something that you see quite often. Not everyone's kink is going to be the same, so it's refreshing to get this new take on the sub/dom relationships And yep, it's so good to read about stuff like skin imperfections as something normal rather than degrading.. Honestly, couldn't be more grateful for a recommendation, I'm pretty sure I will go through your whole list!! As for being fat, yep, I have yet to come across the book where the character being fat isn't a huge deal & isn't the whole center of the plot. But maybe, on the other hand, due to our society & the pressure it puts on all of us, being fat is a big deal to the person? So the books are a realistic depiction? Have you seen "My Mad Far Diary"? It's an interesting take on that topic. (I think there was a book too)
shiuhiuman1
Yea! That's why For Real is my favorite BDSM book! I like the idea of having the older one to be the sub and the fact that although Laurie is the sub in their relationship, he still plays a great role in taking care of Toby's life. Typically, the dom is the caregiver in a D/s relationship while the sub is the receiver, but I find this kind of relationships draining to read...I like to see the two of the MCs taking and giving together, not just one of them doing the job. And, oooh! I'm happy that you decided to read the books I recommended to you because they are GREAT! "Not A Game", "Names Can Never Hurt Me" and "Christmas with Danny Fit" are highly recommended if you want books that do not treat being fat as a big issue. Some people find the narrator in "Names Can Never Hurt Me" annoying, but I love the narrator so much. And I like the slow-burn tension in the book! Gosh, these books are treasures... And no, I've not seen "My Mad Fat Diary", it seems interesting though!
auser
Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links. I watched it like 3 or 4 years ago, but back then it seemed pretty awesome, so I do recommend:) For Real is magic, I finished it and I loved it! A definite re-read some day, it was magical! I snapped so many quotes from this book and there were so many moment when I had to stop & cringe because I was so invested in the characters and they were experiencing some embarrassing moments.. AA I loved it:) Thank you so much again! And yep, you're right - it's very refreshing! No matter how much I love the sub/dom dynamic I'm always left with the question - what does dom get out of this? It often seems like too much work for questionable reward:) Not here though. I might go for Danny next, it looks like it's short, it has Christmas in the title & who knows it might be inspirational? I mean, even if you don't need to lose weight, most of us should still go to the gym:) I used to run a lot during fall, but now it's too cold, so I'm being a lazy oaf:) By the Way, any other good BDSM books that you know of?
shiuhiuman1
That's true that everyone should do sports even though they don't need to lose weight. And yup, I'm lazy as well; it's just too cold for me to get out of my warm blankets...:Sleepy: As for the recommendation of BDSM books, here is my list: "The Master Will Appear" by L.A. Witt (Age gap involved! this one is quite hot; I like the relationship building.) When All the World Sleeps by Lisa Henry and J.A. Rock, (Oh this book...this one is beautiful but sad; it's sad because the MC went through a lot of hardships. He suffers from mental illness and sometimes he sleepwalks. In order to prevent himself from sleepwalking, he uses some horrible methods to do so. He craves to submit because submission means protection and safety to him. And the Dom in this book!! God, I believe he will do everything, absolutely everything to help his sub. This is not a light read, but it definitely worths a try.) Nowhere Ranch by Heidi Cullinan,(This is a good read, but not as impressive as For Real or When All the World Sleeps in my opinion.) Rough Canvas by Joey W. Hill (Mmm..this one involves A LOT OF sex scenes as well as explicit BDSM club scenes. Somehow I just skimmed through the sex scenes because there was TOO many and they were quite the same. Yet, I really like the love between the two of them; it feels strong. However, it's not on my constantly re-read list, since two of the characters are too perfect (in terms of appearance), it doesn't feel real in this aspect.) Axel's Pup by Kim Dare (Oh, everyone loves this book and I can see why. It's probably because the whole book is sweet as sugar. But to be honest, I didn't finish it. It's great in the first 30%-50% of the book, but I got more and more bored in the last 50% of the book... I guess it's because there isn't a prominent and interesting plot, and I was tired of the sub doing everything only based on the dom's preference. At the beginning, there is a spark in the sub that attracts me very much; he has his own will and is independent. However, he gradually loses his spark and he just tries to make every decision based on his dom's opinions. Nah, I don't like that. But well, maybe you can give it a go if you like something super sweet.) Actually, it has been a few months since I last read BDSM books (Re-reads are not counted). Do you have any BDSM novels to recommend me? I would like to read more books of this kind now that I have more time to read.
auser
Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links. yeah, it's impossible to do anything when it's this cold outside.. I feel like a hibernating bear xD I'm really excited for The Master Will Appear & When all the world sleeps. I've never heard of either one of them, but I adore Lisa Henry & it all seems very interesting:) I think I was planning to read Nowhere Ranch too, thank you for reminding me of this one! I have read (dropped closer to the second half) Rouch Canvas and I know exactly what you mean - while it's nice that they love each other so much, I was so tired of them constantly thinking how perfect, beautiful, talented & amazing the other one is.. I mean, come on! And even the sex scens weren't that hot in my opinion, so, while I thought it was amazing at first, I couldn't finish it.. I have so much on my to-read list, don't want to waste time on average stuff:) I've started Alex's pup before, but the language put me off. It seemed very rough and simple, so I felt like I was reading fanfiction instead of a proper book.. I decided to finish it later. Have I misjudged it? Well, from your description it feels like I've dodged the bullet there:) As for my own recommendations, I have read very few, and honestly, most of them sucked. The one that I could recommend would be Power Exchange. It was not my first BDSM book, but it should have been - it's a very good introduction to the genre, a lot of terms and concepts are explained quite naturally, it pays a lot of attention to the whole philosophy of a lifestyle & why people choose to practice BDSM.. It was pretty interesting if just for that. The only problem I had with this book is that it doubled as a murder mystery, and that part was absolutely absolutely horrible. I'm no Sherlock, but I found this particular one painful to read because you can figure it out literally in the first half of the book. So if you are in the mood for some healthy & consensual BDSM, do check it out, but crap, try not to think about the murders at all, because either way it would be too painful of read. There are also parts 2 & 3 which I'm still planning to read, because I really do love the the BDSM part of the book.
shiuhiuman1
You're welcome:D!!! I can totally understand your frustration. It's really hard to find a novel that doesn't suck...*sigh* I've actually thought of giving the Power Exchange series a go, but then I heard people said that the third book involves threesome and I am not really into threesomes (I've tried my best:( ) so I gave it up... But anyway, thanks for your recommendation:D!!!

auser
Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links. mm.. I think I will! Sounds like a fun read for Christmas's eve xD xD I've also read The Master Will Appear (about 1/3).. The age gap was pretty big, so that automatically makes it interesting:D But honestly, I was really annoyed by the Dom, and I was dreading reading the chapters from his POV, so I decided not to finish it after all:D You gave me so many amazing recommendations, so I would rather read something else that I would enjoy:D But please don't tell me it's one of those books that gets significantly better/hotter later on.. I'm kind of tempted to pick it up again & skim through just to make sure I am not missing out on anything awesome:D
