"Interesting only gets you so far. You need substance. Chemistry," Ryo took another bite. "Smarts." He smiled softly as he looked down at the half eaten plate. He pushed it over towards Dee then kicked his shoes off to sit indian style on his bed.

"I have smarts!" Dee blushed and looked to Ryo in shock. He jumped to his feet and pointed roughly at the other. "It may be street smarts, but it comes in handy when solving crimes."

Ryo gave Dee a sly smirk, "I never said you didn't." Looks like he could hit Dee's buttons too. Ryo giggled softly liking that he could mess with him too.

Dee blinked in confusion. The other threw him off. He wasn't sure how to take some words. "So... you think I'm smart? Then... does that mean you think we have good chemistry?"

"Only time will tell with that," Ryo looked over at Dee. "I've been only exposed to very highly intelligent and rich people and I don't mean this as an insult. But I'm not used to people like you. You see things differently and it's rather refreshing."

Dee frowned at the other man's words and settled back on the bed. "I see. So... really a rich kid riding on your dad's coat tail." He sighed as he picked up a ball off the table and tossed it in the air. "So only the rich eat at your table. Must be nice."

Ryo shrugged his shoulders, "I can't really escape it. Once I'm done with the training here I can get my own job and my own place. For now I have to play by his rules." He noticed that plucked a nerve with Dee.

"Must be real difficult." Dee scoffed as he threw the ball again and caught it. He had a personal issue with people with money. In particularly money they didn't earn. "So difficult following daddy's rules and getting a free ride."

Ryo looked over at him, "everyone faces different difficulties Dee. Just because mine were different doesn't make me better than you, in any way. Just because I come from money doesn't make me a bad person. Just because you come from the streets doesn't make you a bad person. It just makes us different people." Ryo stood up to walk to their shared bathroom. "I thought you were different... I thought you wouldn't hate me because of what my family is but I guess I was wrong."

"Hate you? No, I don't hate you. Just what you stand for." Dee threw the ball and it bounced off the ceiling to smack in to the door and roll under Ryo's bed. "The poor little rich kids that think they can just throw their money at people and get whatever they want. I hate those people. They think they are better than everyone else."

"What makes you think I'm one of those people?" Ryo turned back at Dee. "Did I throw money at you? Did I talk down to you? Was I mean to you? Some people are like that Dee. You don't even know what I stand for." He slammed the door and leaned against it. Dee was quick to judge him like everyone else. He wished he'd never told him.

"Then prove me wrong!" Dee crossed his arms over his chest and sighed. He didn't even want to think of what kind of life the other had. It made him feel inadequate and small. "Besides! I didn't say you did... I'm just saying that's how most people with money are."

"Not like you didn't point a finger at me though..." Ryo whispered from behind the door. He walked over to the sink to wash his face off then flipped the shower on. This guy was going to be a real handful.

Dee took his pants off and tossed them on the floor before rolling on his side to face the wall. He tucked his pillow up under his head and shifted. He stared at the wall for a moment before drifting to sleep. It wasn't as though he needed approval from some rich kid. He refused to let that keep him up all night.

Ryo showered and changed for bed. Glancing over at Dee's form he sighed softly and curled into bed as well wondering what the next week of training would bring them. He hoped they could mend their friendship at least.

The next morning, around five o'clock, there was a persistent knocking at the door. Dee grumbled in his sleep and pulled the pillow over his head. He muttered incoherently and immediately began to snore again. The knocking did not give up as there were whispers outside.

Ryo sat up his hair a mess. Looking over at Dee he saw he ignored the knocking. Groaning softly he got up and went over tot he door opening it, "It's five in the mornin'..." He hoped this wasn't some weird training they would go through.

A well muscled blonde and a decently built brunette stood at the door, the blonde grinning and the brunette smirking. The blonde was leaned on the door frame as he looked over Ryo. "Hello. They are selling breakfast right now. We thought we'd meet our neighbors and invite you to lunch."

"He means breakfast. This dimwit is still learning." The brunette adjusted his glasses and gave the other guy a quirked eyebrow. "The name is Dodger. Percil Dodger. And this lovely guy is Jim. And that is all that matters about him."

"Pressed to meet you both, I'm Randy McClain. That snoring man back there is Dee Laytner," Ryo pointed back over his shoulder. "They start breakfast this early? I though orientation was around seven?"

"Awe. They have breakfast from five to about eleven. Gives you plenty time to eat." Jim grinned as he looked past Ryo. "Randy you say? Care to join us?"

Percil smiled at the other and leaned toward him, taking a deep breath. "Mm.. is that Social Destiny for men I smell?"

Randy didn't know if he was going to get a friendship out of Dee but maybe these guys might want to get to know him, "sure let me grab my coat." He then looked to Percil thinking it was a bit strange he smelled him but maybe he was a fan of that body wash. "Yeah, I think it smells nice."

Reaching into the closet he grabbed his jacket. His night pants and shirt would be fine under that. Maybe it would make him seem more normal and less rich walking around in night pants and a black t-shirt. After what Dee said he was really worried about fitting in now. He stepped out of his room and smiled to them."I'm ready."

Percil and Jim met each other's gazes and gave twin meaningful looks before they turned their focus back to the other man. Jim draped an arm around Ryo's shoulder and led him down the hall. "So... your roommate seems pretty lazy. Should we really leave him there?"

"Hush, Jim. It is clearly a touchy subject." Percil walked slightly behind them and watched the two closely. He was just thinking they needed more friends in the academy. This seemed like the perfect opportunity. "So you are a new recruit?"

Ryo want big on that kind of physical contact but he allowed it for now, "I'm sure he'll be fine. "

He cleared his throat, "I got here yesterday. I'm staying my first season now. I'm guessing you've been here a while."

"We started last year. Looking forward to being out in the field this year." Jim spoke excitedly as they walked down the hall. He pulled out a badge that said police in training in small print. "You see? We get to do actual field work."

"Chill, Jim. It's not like that automatically means we are in the field. They pick names at random and if you get lucky, you go out with an officer to do some clean up." Percil shook his head and straightened his glasses again. He feared for Jim's over excitement. "Besides, you will probably only get something like a traffic jam."

Ryo chuckled softly, "it's better than nothing. At least you get to learn the ins and outs." He smiled softly to them. "I'm looking forward to learning all the areas of it." These guys were really nice actually. He looked foward to learning from them.
