hizurisama
First of all, I hope I'm not breaking any rules with the thread's title, haha. Feel free to delete or move this thread if I posted it on the wrong section. I know there's hundreds or even thousands untranslated titles out there, be it doujinshi, manga, or even a simple comic strip. Lots of titles that people want to read but can't because they don't know Japanese. We see scanlators and translators come and go, some managed to finished titles that they picked up, some did a chapter or 2 and then went MIA, while some just had enough and move on with their lives. Nowadays we have scan teams or solo translators asking for support whether it's donating via paypal or be a patron through patreon. 1. back to the question, if your favorite team does that, would you be willing to support them? for example, based on views on mangag* we have millions of people that read yaoi daily, but I doubt not even half of them would be willing to donate for raws, or even spare a penny or 2 for the team/translator. 2. Is there any draw back that makes you hesitant to donate to them? 3. If you are against the idea, may I ask why? I don't want to turn this into a debate by the way, merely asked because I've seen translation pages on Patreon that are doing well, like ren woxing from WuxiaWorld, or Shin translations from Re:zero LN team to name a few. I myself, am guilty of enjoying free translations, I know not all people have money, but personally I'd love to donate a dollar or two in the future, hopefully I'll be able to do it this year! Sorry for the long post, hugs and kisses, everyone!
bodyslam
Hmm, sure. I would also buy manga from the mangaka as well!
auser
mm.. interesting thread. If I have money to do so ( I'll be rich one day, fingers crossed xD), I don't see a problem with doing so, but I do think it might become a legal problem for the translators themselves.. I mean, the whole point of fan scanlations is that they're not for profit.. they're illegal as it is and if the scanlating team suddenly starts making money of the scanlation (obviously, I understand that it's not a lot of money & I do understand that scanlating/translating stuff is hard hard work) I think many more mangakas/publishing houses will start having problems with scanlating groups, no? So I do think that's something to keep in mind, although I did see scanlation groups ask for money before & they seem to be doing very well to this day, so I could be paranoid:D

I think the publishers would start to worry IF they earn thousands of dollar, which is impossible to happen lol, based from what I see, those who set a support button usually don't make much from TL-ing
Faye
Honestly, if I had a lot of money I wouldn't hesitate on donating. Spending for something I love is never a problem for me. Haha! But I'm currently leeching off my mom! @@ And still looking for a job. So for now, all I could over is spiritual and moral support. XD
