i have always used the word yaoi rabbit14 , at the beginning i didnt know the word shonin aiyoyo7

shonin ai= no sex and kiss

 

when i talk about a favourite yaoi anime i always mention shounin ai anime:msn_red_fox 14 so now i will try and make myself to use the word BL because i think its about both (yaoi&shonin ai) :5yoyo34:

so instead of using (Yaoi fan 4 life) i will use (BL fan for life)

 

so what word you always like to use :msn_red_fox 3

i found out something about shounen ai

in a manga or anime

it is

1) just kiss and no sex

2) kiss an shows little sex

3) shows sex and all, but there's little in the show or manga

like its only one or two parts with sex in it

 

 

oh, and when i say BL i say BL Novels

or Boys love novels

Well, when someone says yaoi it pretty much means that there is going to be explicit intimate scenes, not saying the sex in itself will be (in that case it's hard yaoi) or not explicit but it's, at least, fully shown;

 

whereas shounen-ai can be said to be soft yaoi and, for me, it's range goes from merely implying the existence of a couple, to kissing and/or even to soft, partial intimate scenes.

 

While individualy there is no doubt that they are separated by, let's say, intensity, when generaly speaking, a person can refer to either yaoi or shounen-ai to refer to both soft and hard.

 

The concept BL, boys love, in my opinion, it's the best choice to identify the whole of shounen-ai and yaoi, so that it won't be confusing when there's a need to specify which category. (:

Usually I say shounen ai or BL when there's no sex. And the ones with sex are yaoi. Although I might sometimes say yaoi instead of shounen ai, 'cause it's shorter to say. I rarely use the word BL.

I think the way JenovaVII phrased it is perfect. To me Yaoi is when there are steamy sex scenes and BL when there isn't.

It depends. When i talk with Otaku people, I say Yaoi. But when i talk to normal people, i say Boys' Love or BL. XD

I used to think shounen ai was the end of the range until I accidentally read a yaoi manga and realized it was the exact other way around. For some reason I've saved the term "boy love" for romantic Asian films, so I still differetiate between yaoi and shounen ai, although, as SailorRishi already stated, BL would be the generic term encompassing all the different sub-genres

both of them are the same thing which is fascinate people in here. in real life I use the word yaoi (because it's rare word, so most of common people has no idea about it) and BL for short when I have a chat in net (because it's only 2 letters)

i usually use just yaoi even for shonen ai since it's shorter but i agree that there is a difference..and that it's all BL
