E reader question

Hey guys

 

I'm looking for an e reader to read manga on underway. There some question that I have and i want to hear your experience with these type of tablets.

 

First of all I want to know which e reader is good to store downloaded manga on, since I like to read offline, and my second question is, what happens with colour pages?

 

I'm really in doubt what to buy and I have no experience with these kind of tablet, and since not allot of people I know use e readers to read manga, I hope to find some answers here!

so I've read manga on both the kindle and the nook and honestly I really like them both. I'm not quite sure if one has more options than the other as far as what mangas are available to read, but they're both good. I'm pretty sure the newe model kindle will have good download space so you can read off of wifi

First of all, most of e-reader cannot or not really good for reading anything online..so please don't expect it to work like black and white tablet..they were made for reading offline mostly.

 

I have many e-readers, but only Sony, Kindle..and Remarkable, so I cannot give you any information about Kobo or Nook. I did try nook many years ago, but I don't feel like nook is as good as kindle, so I returned it. I don't know how good it is now.

 

Let's start with your first question.. the color pages.. decent E-reader uses E-ink technology, so no color..they tried but the technology is too expansive so no one release it, as a result, all color pages in your manga will turn into Grayscale image.

Your next question .. Storage capacity..

 

E-readers in the market right now come with 8 GB..if you did not plan to store your whole Library in your e-reader ..You should be fine..

 

Kindle : All kindle did not come with memory card slot, so you stuck with 8 GB, but for the top model : OASIS you can increase storage capacity from 8 Gb to 32 Gb for 30 dollar. This is not relevant with reading manga, but for kindle you can add dictionaries..any language you want..you can buy from Kindle store..some you can get for free, but Sony..they pre installed it for you..and you cannot add more language in it.

 

** There is special version "Paperwhite Manga Edition" with 32 GB storage capacity that can be obtained in Japan only, so if you are not in Japan and want this model you will have to order it from E-bay, Yahoo Action or have your friend get it for you. Rang price in E-bay is around 145-190$ [normal version is 119], but even included shipping and everything, manga edition is still around 180$ cheaper than OASIS 32 GB. **

 

If you ask me why Oasis is different beside the screen size .. It has physical button. It's waterproof, so you can read it in the bath tub or wash all your fingerprints and germs from the device anytime.. which I think it's supper nice. Also there is this black screen white text function that only in OASIS only.

I cannot say if Oasis is worth the price or not since we are all value things differently ..Paperwhite has all the functions you need to have a good reading experience tho' Oasis dose bring it to the maximum level. I don't recommend the lowest one because there is no front light in the model and the screen is not as sharp as paperwhite ..since you plan to read manga on it..screen resolution is important in my opinion. However paperwhite doesn't have audiobook function (only lowest one and Oasis has it), so if you love listen to audiobook, please considerate this factor too...but I would say you can just play audio book from your phone or tablet..with Amazon app..so it is not really worth thinking about it.

 

Couple months ago you can also get voyage. The price is between paperwhite and Oasis but Amazon already discontinued it.

 

Also manga version..you can choose to connect with Japanese kindle store or Us Kindle store ..which is very convenient if you buy lot of manga from Japanese kindle store like me ;D

 

** One more thing ,usually you can just right click on the file and choose send to kindle and the file you sent will be in your kindle automatically, but it will not work with file larger than 50MB which many manga are bigger than that, so you will have to manually transfer it which is annoying some time.

 

For sony..they are all come with memory card slot except 5" models, ..some models have 2 type of slots ..so you can put 2 memory cards at the same time..so with sony you will never have to worry about storage capacity.

 

When I was still in Japan. I used to use Sony before and really like them, but sony's reader store in the country I moved to discontinued, so I tried nook and kindle and like kindle more ,so I switch to kindle.

 

If you decide to buy Sony ..the disadvantage of sony is .. they don't do built-in front light ..so you will need that little light for e-reader which I think it is funny ..but well...sony is always like this anyway.

 

 

The next thing that you need to consider is screen size ..

 

I took some photos for you so you can see the different of the size ..I did not do a good job tho' I am apologize for that ..Oasis and paper white I open the original files that I purchased from KU, but all sony I use medium quality files that already in the devices..

. Remarkable is pretty amazing, has more functions, and more economically too. Also you get 100 discount right now too, so it's only 499.

 

I do have them both, and both of them are really amazing ..Sony can read only PDF , but the way it deal with all PDF is amazing ..no other devices can beat that, in my opinion.

 

However if you only need something for reading manga and books ..you should go with normal e-reader..if you want unlimited storage ..you should go with sony or something that support memory card..because you can buy many of them then switch them when you want to ;D

. Thank you Racheal this helps allot. I don't really care about the colour, I just want to read manga offline if i go on vacation etc and also before I go to bed, since I don't want to burden my eyes with all the light from a tablet, a ereader would be really helpful.
