Does anyone have news about Koogi and Lezhin?

Hey everyone!

I decided to open this thread for people who follow the matter with artists and Lezhin.

So, the only one I know of so far is Koogi [the creator of Killing Stalking] - any news about her?

I saw some posts around the web that she is going against Lezhin [with the law's support?], but nothing else was said on the matter. It is one of these news that 'die out' with time. '_' Like any other scandal does anyway.

- she is going against Lezhin but is still planning to release KS Season 3 through it and there's not much more info I can find about the issues with artist vs Lezhin. :/

I guess we are on the same page. I want to know more.

I purchased her previous seasons, but then I caught on [doing my calculations] that Lezhin is either holding them with some marvelous contract or doing something fishy. Because last time when they opened free slots for webtoon artists, I considered taking part in it. HOWEVER, I saw that they want 72 panels or so per week. '___' And then fans wonder why artists take breaks so often due to wrist pain. -_-''

Subscribed as well! I'm very interested what's going to happen to the artists & their works now when everyone seems to go against Lezhin. (Yep, I'm mostly worried about Killerwhale team & their "Warehouse". guilty;)

Meanwhile, I'm getting Lezhin ads on youtube for "At the end of the road".. 3 ads in 1 day, actually:)

Hmmm. So apparently....

The South Korean webtoon industry is a fast-growing business currently valued at 724 billion won ($675.4 million), according to the KT Economics & Management Research Lab, but the working conditions of online comic artists, the industry’s driving force, leave something to be desired.

“When I told a webtoon platform the pay was too little, I was told to appreciate the fact that my works were being serialized,” one webtoon artist said. “When I approached another platform and told them I wanted to make a series about same-sex love, the manager looked me up and down and asked if I was a lesbian.”

Since late last year, webtoon artists have been uniting in opposition to such practices, with some posting and compiling their experiences online, which range from sudden termination to insults.

“After signing a contract, I had to change the initial plot and character design for my webtoon as the platform requested,” another artist said. “Soon after my serial started being published, I was told it would be discontinued.”

!

The majority of the artists that were mistreated were female, inclusive never got bought meals and drinks while male authors got them.

Not the main point of the article, no, but some things are simply ridiculous.

I wonder if they have written a bit more about this issue, I'm going to check. The article was written in February, and still there seems to be little progress made since & no news at all. :( Does Lezhin even acknowledge anything?

P.S. Am I the only one who keeps getting like 5 or 6 Lezhin Youtube ads per day at this point? O_o

,

I've read another article by the same user that Saga has found:

So the interesting info for me was:

It’s sad that the malpractice of Lezhin as always impacts their artists, including making comics hostage for 3 years. For 3 years they won’t be allowed to continue to work on the comics in other platforms, or independently.

So I guess it means, that for a lot of the webtoons we're waiting for, such as Killing Stalking, Warehouse & Royal Servant, etc, if the artists do leave Lezhin after all, we will need to wait 3 years for any possible update:( Not sure how realistic & practical it even would be for the artists to continue something after a 3-year hiatus.:(

I've also found another article, which you might have already seen

, but it gives a pretty good overall of everything that happened.

But yep, regardless, none of this articles is exactly new, so we still don't know what's going on now.

Just sad to see that people who had such high hopes of having there artwork published and maybe could earn some living from it, see there hopes and works crushed like this.

I get the same feeling as with Samsung, I have seen allot of documantaries about that company and how it deals with it workers. It's giving me the chills really. That this can happen in a first world country like south korea baffels me. But yeah with the corruption scandals going on nothing surprises me anymore.
