rev22x20
Slow Heat #1 "This is a stand alone gay romance novel, 118,000 words, with a strong happy ending, as well as a well-crafted, non-shifter omegaverse, with alphas, betas, omegas, male pregnancy, heat, and knotting. Content warning for pregnancy loss and aftermath." Again, this is probably just me because this damn book has a rating of 4.05 stars on Goodreads. I feel like I only complain about crappy books and not about books that are really really good. I might fix that someday but right now, I need to vent. This is therapeutic. I am sure if I tell my therapist about this, she will give me a cookie. Or up my meds. 50/50. My Goodreads review: "400 pages in and nothing has happened. Nothing at all. No kiss between the MC’s, no hugs, the alpha has had sex with his best friend even though he had already imprinted on his omega, hell he even has more chemistry with his alpha friend than with his actual omega. *sigh* It could be so good, it has the potential but alas, here we are. Also what’s up with the timeline? It’s never explained. Sometimes I felt like I was reading a book based on the 1800’s but then the immersion was broken because cellphones. Wait what?" 2 stars (because the grammar was good and the initial plot was good) Don't even get me started. I read this at around April and by read I mean I blacked out constantly in between paragraphs so I don't really remember all the details nor the names of the characters. This shit was bland. We have these two MC's, a younger alpha and an older omega (sign me the fuck up, love me some age gaps, I don't care who's the alpha or the omega), so naturally I was getting my tablet ready and my glasses on...but 400 pages in and I felt like I was on a pilgrimage through the Atacama Desert with no end in sight. I saw "page 400" and I thought "well, this torture is never going to end. Better put this away while I can still breath and think." The main characters are boring and bland and have no "ZING!", they barely interact 400 pages in, the alpha has more chemistry with his alpha friend (who he fucks constantly before he met his omega and AFTER he met his omega and imprinted on him and their sex scenes were actually hot minus the guilt and awkward pillow talk), the timeline is all fucked up (are we in the 1800's or are we in the future? are we in 2018 the year of our lord but with 1800's thoughts and feelings or....are we dancing?). I just.....*sigh* this could have been so fucking good. The actual plot is somewhat interesting, the writer has good grammar and the sentences make sense but she wants to do so many things at the same time that I had to take a fucking nap after reading this. I kept putting my tablet down and then picking it up again and then down again for a few days and then up again. To close this and shut the hell up: The book is not bad...if you enjoy slow slow slow slow slow slow heat and burn, boring main characters with no chemistry whatsoever, a timeline that is all over the place and, again because I can't stress this enough: S L O O O O O O O O O W B U R N. As always, welcome to my ted talk. PS: THIS HELLISH STORY NOW HAS A PART TWO (Alpha Heat). With Xan and Urho, which, funny story, I had to ask a few people who they were because I couldn't even remember who they were. I was too busy coming up with my possible will for when the book finally bored me to death. AlphaxAlpha. which, honestly? I might give it a try simply because I actually liked Xan more than the main characters on this book. lol just kidding. It probably has the same messy timeline. shinyaKogami
I think timing is everything when you are reading MxM.. Because sometimes you just need read some hot smex and sometimes you want to actually care about characters.. and this can be fall under either one of the categories according to the reader.. unfortunately though not my taste Howeveerr I already started with the second book, and it's.. umm relatively well I guess? I usually read the little overview on Goodreads and depending on my mood (if I want to read a steamy book I am more forgiving as long as the sex scenes are...steamy and well written), it doesn't matter if its a long or short story as long as the sex scenes were top notch BUT when it's a long ass book (like this one) and your overview promises me a plot and depth, you better give me your best work or I will skin you alive. Please do let me know about the second book because I have better things to do and better books to read.
rinforzando
I think the second book has better pace and characterization than slow burn. Xan as a character draws the reader to be invested with his story. Would recommend alpha's heat more than slow burn sexy bits were very interesting too. shinyaKogami
Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links. I already reviewed the second book on goodreads, but yeah more than half of the book was much too repetitive however about the last 20% of the book : There was 3P, and it was my first time reading it.. I'm usually not comfortable about it, but in here it read okay.. And plus, there was an asexual character that I also read for the first time.. I think it was these elements made me like the book at least more than the first one.. But should I rec it? I don't know there are also really great boks out there
