what bothers you the most in yaoi (anime,manga...etc)

1. Angst. I hear enough angst in my professional life, don't want it on my off time.

2. When the mangaka introduces a dead love interest at the very end of the story like in Love Mode, instead of front loading it. I would at least feel sad in the beginning and have context, instead of being irritated at the end that I had to go through volumes of drama, wrapped up with an ending showing our main tachi being in love with another guy. It would have been nice to acknowledge that Naoya, the neko, went through a lot more tragedy, but in ended up being emotionally stronger than Reiji. Maybe this is because it is a 1990's series and I read it in 2013.

3. Unclear endings as in

Let Dai.

4. The constant cigarette smoking and exposing lovers to second hand smoke. Even worse, medical doctors smoke in BL manga. I'm not saying the smoking rate is 0% amongst MDs, but I don't think it's as high as shown in BL. I'm a former smoker so I understand the addiction, and I also know this is cultural, but not necessary to move the story forward.

It's probably because they're obsessed with social classes. It seems smoking equals high status. Like some sign of 'elegance'. It's quite opposite in America. We tend to look upon smokers as low-income family.

Upon reading some posts.

I don't have problems with denial. I think it's quite common in real life too... otherwise it could have been a gay falling in love with another gay, which isn't all that exciting.

I prefer characters with flexible sexuality when they didn't even know. We all discover something we didn't know we had.

I notice, many times, the semes go after ukes. But I'd like to see ukes going after semes more often. It's more challenging and difficult, I would think, since semes would need a bit more of persuasion, and story development.

I think the social class difference, the rich guy always is the seme and has some kind of trap to reel in the uke. I mean, I think I just wish there was more variance in regards to social status and story. That's all. XD

What bothers me the most, I just don't like 'office' settings. It's depressing! "Oh I'm just a salaryman working in an office.. nobody notices me... and I have a crush on my boss..."

It also bothers me when the Seme's hand is overly drawn way too big. >.HAHAHA yaoi hand syndrome? yeah some of them are wayy to ridiculous, like, what are those grotesque alien appendages where your hands are supposed to be???

but as to the things that bother me personally... self-lubricating holes? like, that just... doesn't... happen...? like sure a lot of people actually don't actually use synthetic lube and it's not totally dry but... it doesn't work like a vagina does. :T

also stuff like rape is love (it's not, and why would you deprive us of delicious angst and struggle by handwaving the ugly bits away) and super-stereotyped shallow representations of domineering seme-sama/spineless uke-chan... you know, the usual.

i want BL mangaka to THINK about their characters and story a little more. breathe some life into them. a lack of that is really the only thing that truly bothers me.

Rape scenes that are overly brutal and right at the beginning, when the poor uke hasn't even had a chance to feel anything towards the overpowering seme so that, with the best of intentions, it simply isn't possible to twist the scene into one of love- it's rape and rape is wrong. And then when the partners are too far apart or too young- that makes me feel a little uncomfortable...

Haha, whoever mentioned the invisible penis got that right.

Some denial makes sense cause of the society we live in but I hate when voila rape suddenly turns to love, too overused and unrealistic a concept. In viewfinder although there is rape, there is also clearly lust and the feelings come gradually. that i can deal with.

Also I wanna see more 'switches' instead of the sterotypical defined uke and seme, isn't that the beauty of same sex relations?

What bothers me in yaoi is:

1. Useless (and even irritating) female characters who are on the way to a yaoi couple.

2. Whiny and girly uke

3. Sadistic seme

4. Uke is in a relationship but he consistently Denies it.

5. And shota theme/element, its so creepy at all.

I don't like non-con. Dub-con can be a little cute sometimes but,...idk I feel like everything they do should be completely consensual. Also I don't like ukes who are, for some reason, so like "but- but they're a boy! I can't like a boy!" and they do that...the whole entire time. It's okay sometimes (I liked how Love Stage!! did it. His attitude changed once he realized "I'm bisexual, who the fuck cares!" also- bisexual erasure makes me so irritated. You can like both boys and girls, is that such a difficult concept? Izumi was very clearly bisexual and I really liked that.)

Too many sparkles. I can't handle them. D:

Josei-in-the-guise-of-yaoi ones too.

I used to not like the presence of girls in yaoi but eventually I came to understand that they have their purpose. Usually, they are the basis of coolness or charm of the character. The more persistent the girl is/ the more girls he's had/ the more girls are after him is a gauge of his awesomeness.

Censors annoyed the heck out of me before too but ever since I worked for a publisher, I began to understand why they do that. It's actually to hold down the mature content of the story so they'd have a wider age range of audience. AND, from reading some mangaka's afterwords, there are some artists who find it awkward to draw peens so they use different methods to avoid drawing them.

The same thing that annoys me in real gay publications.

F*cking Twinks...

Where are the real men?!

When rape is badly handled or presented as just another method of seduction.

Childlike ukes.

Unrelenting angst and sadness.

Rape. I don't like when they say that rape is ok and I hate when they just forgive and then fell in love with that person. That's what bothers me the most. Though I have nothing against rape in yaoi, but it has to be rape then. Like I don't want to see them being ok with it...

Also bad drawing, that I hate. 'Cause they can ruin a totally good yaoi by drawing it too fast or lazy or just lack of talent..

And then there's just little thing that happens in some yaoi but it's not that bad. Like whining over everything or crying all the time...

I'm not to into the whole 3P thing 3P meaning 3 people for those who don't know I would rather the 3rd wheel to leave the happy couple alone instead of trying to take the Seme or uke like in momo Mimi faramone the semes fan girls get in the ukes way so -.- its annoying I mostly hate it when it's in oneshots

It bothers me greatly if the uke is not looking like he would enjoy it at all!

I also really dislike rape! =/

If the yaoi has to much drama. lol

If the characters act way to GIRLY... ( especially the uke)

If the bottom is a slut lol...

If the seme is a coldhearted jerk for no reason.

When suddenly another person appears and starts to cling on either the seme or uke.

( Especially if it's one of those ''princess'' girls who think they can have anything they want. without even considering that the other person may feel super uncomfortable by the way they treat them...)

... just because either the seme/uke is to much of a pu- ...scaredy cat to say that he loves another person already.

Even more annoying if the girl goes all the way like ''But he is a man! I am better because i am a girl.'' . >__>

I am totally okay with ''yaoi fangirls'' in the story ! Because that is funny and interesting!

( we need more of these and less of the annoying girls who try to make the gay guys straight!XD )

1.The rape trend in BL seems to be going away now (hey, there's less of it in new publications), but I've read way, way too many good bl manga that were spoiled by rape.

2.Unnecessary drama, too much melodrama etc.

3.When characters have great chemistry and there's sexual tension and then they suddenly jump in the bed and it feels forced and all the chemistry's gone

4.When there's this great build-up to the sex scene and when it finally comes it's short or is not shown at all.

There are many more things that bother me about yaoi but I can't think of them right now.

That's not about yaoi but more about anime production & fandom but what the hell

1.It bothers me that there's so little anime adaptations being made.

2.When people who don't know what BL is think every yaoi story is like Boku no Pico. "Oh, you're a fujoshi? So you like Boku no Pico?" Gimme a break.

My biggest, BIGGEST, BIGGEST issue with a lot of yaoi is Rape.

And the use of rape as a stepping stone in the relationship of the couple. I'm sorry but no where, NO WHERE is rape an acceptable act to me. And there is no way in real-life a normal person, without some serious mental health issues, is going to fall in love with their rapist. Gay or straight that is NOT how a relationship works. Just NO.

What I hate most is the f* secondary character that is in love with one the main characters. For example, Yuu from Sekaiichi Hatsukoi or Ijuuin from Junjou Romantica. Also, I hate when the uke can't accept he is in love with the seme and he denies it, even though it is so obvious that he loves him. rabbit11
