♠[Rin]♠
Rin's Character: Name: Alexei Maroskov. Age: 17. Height: 1,70m. Skin: pale. Haircolour: platinum blonde. Eye colour: blue. Nationality: Russian. ___________________________________________________________ It was yet another school trip. Their art teacher wanted to take the school to the Ars Electronica Center in a town fifty miles away to show them how technology had evolved over the years. It was one of the first topics of this semester. It was currently June, so the weather was just doing whatever it wanted. It would rain one day, snow on the other and be hot on the one after. The art class led by Mrs. Seyln was filled with idiots and now they were all on the same bus. A group of girls talking about nail polish, the nerds in the front talking about physics, some emo kids listening to music on their own, punks discussing abstract art and sports people who would rather hit a ball instead of being here. They had been on their way for an hour now and there was another hour to go. Right now, they were driving on a country road and the trees started to become more and more until a whole forest built up. Alexei was sitting at the window in one of the last rows. He was a native Russian whose parents had moved to Canada when he was little. Adapting to the American culture hadn?t been hard at all over the years, especially since Canada was one of the politest states. He was mannered, if he wanted to, and his family was strict when it came to behaviour, but as soon as he was in school, he knew how to have his will. He had done parkour for over a decade now and knew how to handle people bigger than him, yet he wasn?t someone who became physical. He was, to put simply, someone who liked to correct other people. He was averagely intelligent, just used most of his time to read books and watch documentaries, which had widened his knowledge over the years. Most people respected him, of course it helped that he was Russian, there were a few rumours about him carrying a gun and whatnot on his person, but nothing had ever been reported to a teacher, nor had anyone evidence for it. Alexei personally didn?t care, he was fine with being avoided and being left alone. The only person he was friends with was a girl from middle school who went to another high school and who he kept in touch with. And of course, there was the world?s most annoying person as well. Alexei?s icy blue eyes skipped over to the male sitting in the same row on the other side of the bus. Adachi Kitagawa, or as a Japanese would say, Kitigawa Adachi. A muscular, tanned guy with quite silver hair, who didn?t have any hobbies in life. In fact, Alexei had accidently started a war with that guy in kindergarten, yes kindergarten, almost thirteen years ago. Both of them were just lucky to always get the same classes. It was annoying, annoying to the point where Alexei couldn?t go past the other without taunting him. Today morning, at the bus station, Alexei had once again met Adachi, but he couldn?t let it go without telling him that his shirt looked good, but his ?triangle visage? could use a wash. And because Adachi just couldn?t let an argument go, the teacher had had to separate them and Alexei had ended up listening to music instead of talking to someone else. The girl who had sat next to him at the start had walked to the front to her friends and chat with them. Suddenly, there was a hefty bump. The bus seemed to have ran over something big and it stopped immediately, dragging everyone out of their thoughts and conversations. A girl screamed out of shock. Alexei straightened his back to look over the seats, taking out one of his earphones. The bus opened the front door and the teacher ran out to see what happened. She came back shortly after and talked to the bus driver. Mumbling went through the crowd. ?What?s wrong?? one of the nerds shouted. Mrs. Seyln stepped into the middle of the bus corridor and checked if anyone was hurt, but nobody seemed seriously injured. ?We?re having trouble with the bus,? she explained to her students. ?So, we have to stay here for a while and fix it. We accidently ran over a deer and now the tire is damaged. Stay calm, remain seated, don?t leave the bus. The driver and I are fixing this.? She turned and left the bus along with the driver. The students started to discuss with their neighbours, of course not returning to their original seats. Alexei sighed, dropping back into the seat and yawning into his hand. What a shit trip. Minutes passed where nothing happened. He was getting bored for sure. He tried watching something on YouTube, but the internet was dead, so was the phone service. One of the emo kids explained to the girls how a serial killer could have planned this and was just waiting to kill them as soon as the night would come, upon which a girl started crying, because she couldn?t call her parents. From that moment on it started to get too loud for Alexei?s liking. He packed his earphones, slid his phone into his grey jeans, adjusted his dark blue sweater and climbed out onto the corridor. In that moment, he made eye-contact with Adachi. ?What are you staring at?? he hissed. ?Never seen a handsome guy before? Ah, I guess not, since your mirror image wouldn?t provide that.? With that he turned around and squeezed through the crowed to the open door, leaving the bus. Most of the students were too busy discussing to even notice the absence. Once outside, the blonde took a deep breath and stretched his arms above his head. He couldn?t spot the teacher here, so she was probably on the other side of the bus with the driver. Alexei checked his phone ? still no service. ?Whatever.? He put it back into his pocket and walked off the road and into the grass in between the trees. The forest looked deep and dense. He really wondered what was in there? It would be more fun than to stay in the bus, that was for sure, but he had to stay in sight to be able to hear the teacher calling as soon as they would have fixed the bus. Well, not a hard thing to do, right?
zekusu
Adachi Kitagawa | 17 | Male | Top | Human | 5'9 | Athletic/Muscular Personality: Your regular unruly delinquent who likes to have the last word. Doesn't initiate a fight unless prompted. Unless you really annoy him. Likes to nap in the sun. Has a soft spot for his twin brother and babies him because he's a bit of a wimp. Very emotive and isn't afraid of other people's opinions of him. You see exactly what you're getting, no sugar coating involved. Carrying grudges is his hobby. Biography: Was born with a twin named Yami who is older than him, but their roles reversed as their personalities grew. At the playground he got bullied by Aleksei for being short. Adachi wasn't going to take this, so he started pushing Aleksei around in retaliation in school and their relationship never actually got better. They went to the same schools and always ended up in the same classes, but their relationship never really improved and eventually they developed a rivalry of one upping one another, even to this day. Additional Info: His twin brother Yami: It was another one of those bus trips where they shoved students into a bus till it was like a sardine can with barely any breathing room. The teacher had placed him a little bit too close to his nemesis, Aleksei, and eventually there had to be a switch of seats where him and his brother, Yami, switched seats. His simpleton of a brother was reading a book and talking to him about the different inventions in technology. All the while his brother spoke, Adachi glared at Aleksei, before turning to look out of the window. He had one of his earbuds in, but with his other ear, he was still listening to his brother speak until the calm droning of his voice made him fall asleep. He woke up to the entire bus basically shaking and he swore he could've fallen off his seat if his arm hadn't been automatically ready. His other arm, he wrapped around his dummy of a brother in another automatic reaction and held him close until the bus came to a stop. His earbud had completely fallen out of his ear and he heard the teacher explain something about a "broken tyre". Yami tapped his side gently, pleading to be let out of his clutch and Adachi did so reluctantly, dropping back to his seat with a huff. "What the hell. It's not like we're in Hokkaido..." To which Yami just gave an awkward laugh. His eyes trailed quickly to look at Aleksei, but once he saw he was okay, he looked away. Why wouldn't he be ok? You'd need more than a bump of a bus to make a dent to that twats skull. Adachi waited in silence for the teacher and the driver to sort out the tyre, but nothing seemed to be happening. He slouched on his seat as much as he could before the length of his legs stopped him from getting comfortable. Defying the discomfort he decided to stay in the position as Yami worried when the girl started to cry. Adachi took his brothers hand and it calmed down his fussing a little bit. He was doing just fine too, until Aleksei got up and he instinctually looked towards the movement in the corner of his eye. Adachi seethed. "At least I don't look like a MILF's little bitch boy!" He spoke, but realized that Aleksei was too far for him to hear his comment. Somehow, this made him even more angry. "I'll be back." he told Yami who just quietly nodded and allowed him to leave with a "Don't go too far!" as he practically climbed over his twin brother and went to follow Aleksei and his dumb ass. It only took him a few seconds to find Aleksei, his eyes so used to of finding his dumb ass even in a crowd. "Oi! Did you hear me bitch boy?" He taunted Aleksei loudly. "I said at least I don't look like a-wh-shit!" A root of an old plant must have grown there or something, because Adachi tripped and immediately grabbed onto Aleksei's shirt for support as he fell down the hill. ♠[Rin]♠
Alexei already stopped when he heard Adachi’s voice yelling at him behind him, coming from the bus. He didn’t even need to look back to see how furious the other was shouting at his back. The blonde sighed in annoyance, looking up towards the sky. “God, help me getting rid of this idiot,” he mumbled, acting as if just hearing the other’s voice was physically hurting him. Adachi was coming nearer, but suddenly he was cut off, which Alexei found amusing in the first moment, but there was no time to laugh at the other, because suddenly there was a strong pull on his sweater from behind. The Russian’s eyes widened as his body gave in to the strength and weight of the other student who had apparently tripped over something and had sought halt on his sweater. “Ack-!” A choked sound escaped Alexei’s throat. His arms swirled in the air, but there was nothing to hold on to. Both fell to the ground. He could feel his shoulder meeting the ground first, taking most of the impact, but gravity was working against them as they rolled down the hill. It was a crazy ride that didn’t last long until Alexei finally landed on his back on a flat grass surface at the foot of the hill. He inhaled oxygen, but in the same moment weight was added on him as also Adachi had fallen the same way and landed on top of him. The fresh oxygen was pressed out of Alexei’s lungs and forced him to cough. Then he gasped and took a deep breath. Everything hurt. “Get off me, you fat giraffe!” Alexei complained, pushing his hands against the other’s chest to roll him off himself. Afterwards, he sat up and held his shoulder. “Ow, fuck… This is your fault! How could you be so stupid as to pull us both down here?” He hissed at the whitette, then looked up towards the tip of the hill. It wasn’t too far from the bus, but he could already feel bruises forming on several spots of his body. Suddenly, a scream echoed through the forest. Alexei turned his head to look towards the other direction, deeper into the forest. The scream had been loud enough to scare a few birds who flew off the trees. He narrowed his eyebrows with a disturbed look on his face. It had sounded like a woman and it had certainly sounded like she needed help, desperately. Alexei pulled himself back on his feet and checked his phone, but there was still no service. They could try and call the police, but if that scream was a misunderstanding, it would get them into a lot of trouble. “You heard that too, right?” Alexei asked Adachi, making sure that he hadn’t hit his head during the fall. “Go back to the bus and tell the teacher about it, I’ll go and check it out.” Like hell he was going to take that annoying, adult-sized, muscular teddy bear with him voluntarily. zekusu
His mind went absolutely blank. He had no idea what happened, but his world was spinning and hard and painful and then... soft. His world had come to a pause and he finally was able to take a wheezing breath of air just before he was pushed off. His body ached and he was sure it was going to bruise, but he wouldn't know the extent of his pain until he had a proper look at himself. But that wasn't his priority. "Better a fat giraffe than a smelly aye-aye." he spoke loud enough for Alexei to hear, feeling the necessity of insulting the boy before he even made sure he himself was okay. After delivering the insult, he got half-up and lifted his aching arms. Probably just a few bruises. He tapped his body, not feeling anything broken, but just sore. His legs were very much the same. He completely ignored Alexei's insults and started to look up the grassy hill towards where they'd rolled down from. To be honest, he was surprised he HADN'T broken anything after that fall. He attempted to get up the hill, but due to the wet grass and the slightly muddy yet crumbly texture, he wasn't able to get even a proper grip with his boots to make his way back up. Instead, he stumbled a few steps back and nearly fell when he heard a scream. He turned to look into the direction of the scream and slowly, he swallowed. "You'd have to be a deaf idiot not to..." Adachi responded to Alexei, but as the blonde went to tell him instructions, Adachi ignored them. "Bastard I just tried! How am I supposed to- OI!" Before he could even finish, Alexei was already running into the forest towards the voice. "Jesus fuck this is great." Adachi kicked a tree stump on the ground and thankful for his steel toed boots, he didn't even feel the impact. "Go and get help, I'll check it out. AS IF!" He spoke mockingly as Alexei and then huffed. "Oooooi! We're down here and need help! Ooooi!" He didn't hear anything back, so he threw a rock over the hill (and it made it!!) but he didn't have time to see if the teacher saw or heard anything. He hoped for the best. He sighed before he ran his hand through his hair and started muttering as he started to run after Alexei. "I have a grand idea! Let's go look at what that scream was! After all, that's what fucking idiots do IN HORROR MOVIES!" Although, using the horror movie graph probably isn't relatable to real life, but... it seemed to make sense at the time. Alexei hadn't even made it that far, not with those short squiggly legs of his. Adachi himself was very active sports wise and he had plenty of stamina to go, so catching up to Alexei was not even that much of a feat. He grabbed onto Alexei's shoulder. "You idiot or what? Just leave it, we need to get back to the bus." He hoped to hell that Alexei had more brains than this...
♠[Rin]♠
Alexei halted when he felt fingers digging into his shoulder. He sighed in annoyance and turned around to look up towards the whitette. “You’re comparing our lives to a horror movie? Come on, what are you, a coward? You do sports, right? It’s bright day. Nothing will happen. We can’t just leave the person who screamed in the forest. What if it’s an emergency? What if it’s a pregnant woman who needs help?” He did secretly carry a knife as well, so he thought that he wasn’t in danger at all. He didn’t do any boxing or fighting sport in his free time, but parkour did help to win against someone bigger than him oftentimes. “The driver and our teacher are still repairing the bus, otherwise we would have heard the engine starting and she has to make sure everyone is there, so we won’t get left behind. They’ll look for us before leaving.” Alexei’s eyes traced over the hill they had fallen down. He could see Adachi’s footprints on it which confirmed that he had failed to climb up. The earth underneath was simply not stiff enough to carry their weights. He bit his bottom lip and turned his head to the sides, looking for another way to return, but there was none. The forest seemingly spread to the sides, though mainly it was growing north, while the bus was on the southern side. The blonde fished out his phone to try if there was an internet connection for Google Maps, but there was none, just like they didn’t have any service. His phone did offer him an emergency call, but this wasn’t an emergency and it would get them in trouble if they called the police or the ambulance without a reason worth the costs. “I don’t know what you are going to do with that one brain cell you’ve got,” he said, putting the phone back into his trousers’ pocket. “But I will check on the person who might need help.” He added, turning back around to walk deeper into the forest. zekusu
Adachi felt a sense of despair. "How many people come into a forest to give birth!?" When it came to a forest like this, it was less likely that it was a sensible person giving birth. If someone would've driven off the road and accidentally crashed, he was pretty sure there would be traces of the path and even a car, but by what he could see, he saw none. In all likeliness, a serial killer in the woods was more likely. Or a serial killer giving birth. Whichever. God that was a stupid thought, but what the guys in the bus had been talking about had left an impression on him. For a brief moment, him and his single brain cell decided that Alexei could go fuck himself, but knowing that if something happened to the smelly aye-aye, he would blame himself for not doing anything. So just like any good frenemy, he decided to follow after the blonde. The forest itself looked very light, but the deeper they went, the denser the woods were and there was less light. Not to mention, they hadn't heard another scream since. Adachi was almost bored when it came to following Alexei, but he couldn't shake this feeling of unease off his back at all. He felt like... he was being watched. And it wasn't even Alexei, unless the bastard had eyes at the back of his head. Adachi cringed at the thought and made a mental note to watch less horror movies in the next year. After he finished the Saw franchise. After. Yes. He heard rustling in the bushes and nearly jumped, only to discover that it was just a silly squirrel. Adachi snickered to himself, but something didn't feel right... The squirrels eyes were red. He shook the unease off and jogged a slight distance up front, joining up with Alexei. "You know what? Me and my half dead braincell think it might be a good idea to turn back. This place doesn't feel right." He knew that Alexei would probably take the piss out of him for it, but at this point, he didn't even care. His steps came to a halt suddenly and he swallowed thick when he saw a building. It looked abandoned, that was for sure. There were vines crawling up the outer walls and whatever fence this building had, had collapsed to the ground ages ago, the plantation and the moss completely covering it. To be quite frank, it looked like an old mansion, which wasn't that weird. "There we go. Your screamer is a house. Can we go back now?" He didn't know why, but this mansion gave him the creeps. But there was nothing wrong with it. Absolutely nothing at all.
♠[Rin]♠
The blonde sighed, narrowing his eyebrows as if he was getting a headache just by hearing the other’s voice. He was somehow right, though, which annoyed Alexei on the inside, but he decided not to argue about it, because that would mean he might lose the discussion, even if he already had, but he knew that Adachi liked to have the last word, so he just went with a “shut up!” to make sure the other was still busy with being annoyed himself. However, he could hear the Japanese following him after a moment. He didn’t show it but knowing that Adachi was right behind him made him nervous for some reason. He wouldn’t give up his lead because it would hurt his pride, so he remained from looking over his shoulder. The trees started to cover up more of the sky the deeper they walked into the forest. It grew darker and denser with every step. Was this the opening of a horror movie? Of course not. This was, if anything at all, a waste of time. Alexei wasn’t as social as he acted, he didn’t want to go back to the bus anyway, because he found it boring there. They hadn’t heard another scream, thus the chance of finding the person who had voiced it was little, maybe even zero. It probably hadn’t been an emergency, really. Alexei turned his head when Adachi caught up to him to walk by his side. “Are you being a coward?” he asked with a raised eyebrow, though had to interrupt himself from adding what was lingering on his tongue because the Japanese suddenly stopped. Surprised, Alexei halted as well and followed the other’s glance up to an abandoned building. It was great in width and height and looked as old as to have served in the second world war. “I know you don’t like urban exploring, but this is probably the best we can get on this boring trip,” Alexei said. Carefully, he stepped onto the ragged and broken-down fence to enter the huge yard. He turned the corner and looked up the tall concrete construction. Most of the windows were blocked with simple wooden sticks and there were a few fissures in the fa?ade, but it was still standing stable. When Alexei reached the other side of the building, he faced the entrance. There were three white, round concrete steps leading up to a double door made of cracked wood whose red colour had already chipped off. The lock was visibly broken and the left doorknob was lying on the ground. Alexei turned his head to make sure nobody was there who could see him before he walked up to the door and opened the left side. Oddly fresh air welcomed him at the threshold. The lobby, or waiting room, he was seeing was a mess. Everything was covered in dust and an unholy amount of paper was lying on the floor. And what was that? He narrowed his eyebrows, tilting his head. Was there red paint on the wall next to the open doors at the back of the lobby? Or could it be blood? zekusu
You know that moment in a horror movie, when one of the characters says that "we definitely shouldn't go there" and to advance the plot, the rest of the characters go in there, even the character that didn't want to? Yeah, this was exactly that moment. He followed Alexeis words about "knowing that he didn't like urban exploring" and that it was "the most fun on this trip that they were going to have" and made faces and changed the pitch of his voice with each word to make it sound as dumb as possible. "Yeah, yeah... I'm gonna follow you just so I can drag your corpse out and become a hero. The chicks like that." he snorted, although he definitely didn't want to drag Alexeis corpse out of this place, but... he just couldn't leave either. Being alone in scary situations is the worst thing. After he followed the blonde in, he frowned. It looked upsettingly ordinary. Maybe the whole scary vibe was only his imagination more than anything. He entered while Alexei inspected the walls and he picked up some of the papers on the floor. The papers were old and faded, leaving a lot for the imagination. He frowned and dropped them back into the disarray on the floor. He headed towards what must have been the "help desk" at the time and looked around. No computers or anything of the sort. Old building. Probably a hospital of some sort. But why was it hidden like this? A mental hospital? He managed to creak open one of the drawers - just to make this as hellish as possible for Alexei - as slow as he could. Inside, were small folders. The text was still very faded, but it was more comprehensible. The pictures on them were so much more fresh though. "Doctor B...Be...la? Que?" He gave up, but it looked like an access card of some sort. Devilishly, he looked towards Alexei with a grin. "Hey, urban explorer! Wanna go and see some bodies?" He meant to make it sound as creepy as he could. And to be honest, he didn't know where or how far this shitshow of a card was gonna take him to. Thank you Belaque! ♠[Rin]♠
„You are not into chicks,“ was all that Alexei had to say when Adachi found it appropriate to joke about dead people after childishly imitating him. The Russian said it so coldly and feistily that he really wanted the other to prove him wrong. Just to spite him again. He always had the last word! They entered the abandoned building. Alexei checked out the graffiti, rubbing his fingertips against it. The colour came off so it was pretty old. „Man, the last time someone was here must have been a long time ago,“ he said, wiping the colour off his finger. „I really wonder if this building will collapse or not. Because it looks stable from what I can see.“ He walked over to check one of the stools standing around as if they had never belonged it. He picked it up, finding it pretty heavy for how tiny it was. He turned it around and there was a number carved into the bottom surface. In that exact moment he heard something open terribly slowly, just like doors in horror movies, and he could feel the hairs on his arms stand up at the creepy sound. Alexei turned his head to look at the source, but it was just Adachi messing around. „What the hell?“ The Russian cursed. „You never handle anything with care but you open a seeminlgy one hundred year old drawer like it was a grandma crossing a street?“ When Adachi asked him if he wanted to „see some bodies“ Alexei considered starting a fight over just how big the other‘s smirk was. He totally didn‘t like Adachi looking at him like that. It just triggered him somehow. „Yeah, actually.“ He answered though. He turned his head back to the chair and put it back down. „The bottom of the chair reads Saint Mary Hospital, 1966. But I guess a normal hospital wouldn‘t be in the middle of nowhere.“ If this really was a hospital though, or anything related to it, they would be better off touching nothing, after all every kind of bacteria or desease could be in here. Alexei walked over to Adachi and rudely took the card out of his hand to study it. „Doctor Belaque. I‘ve never seen that face or heard that name before.“ He handed the card back and then pointed over to the double door that looked like it would get them deeper into the building. „You go first, I‘d rather you run into the arms of a serial killer than me.“
zekusu
He nearly wanted to ask Alexei how he knew he wasn't all that straight he made himself seem, but a brief memory from a way back made it make sense. One of the guys had kissed him in the P.E. equipment room and they had heard a noise, but it had seemed harmless at the time. It was also when he kinda realized that he might not be as straight as he liked to believe, if the obvious butterflies in his stomach weren't a dead giveaway. Adachi really wanted to ask if Alexei had seen them then, but decided to shut up and not ask. Instead of the feeling he had in his gut, he smirked back at Alexei. "That doesn't mean anything. Hospitals AND mental hospitals are usually named after saints. Makes you feel at ease, you know... Until they creep you out." He looked around but didn't see anything like a statue of the Virgin Mary. Even if ignorant, he at least knew a little bit of religion, but there was no statue of any kind around. He frowned briefly when Alexei took the card from his hand and when he was told to go ahead, he did so, swishing his hand nonchalantly. "Well.. the odds of there being two serial killers in one location are phenomenal." To which he smirked and then turned to look at Alexei. "Besides, it's usually the person at the back of the line who gets snatched first." He took the card from Alexeis hand and made an entry through the door. And straight through the dust cloud. "Jesus fuck." He whimpered between coughs as he proceeded further and swished the cloud away with his hand. The corridor in front of them was long with doors on the side and massive windows on the side that showed the outside world. Or the forest. And it had bars on the windows, a detail he hadn't noticed before. He shrugged it off entirely as he looked at the plaques next to the rooms - sets of numbers - and peered through one of the slits on the door. The room was empty. He scoffed, huffing at himself for even believing there was anyone in here. This place was empty. As empty as Alexeis head. He snorted. He made a turn at the end of the corridor, which lead into another. He looked around and finally spotted something interesting. Worth key carding. He jogged over to the sign reading "hospital wing" and practically took Alexeis hand, dragging him along. "This is what were here for!" he announced and then carded the reader on the side. It pinged to Adachi's surprise and he opened the door, making his way in. The room was dark and when he fondled for a switch, the light turned on but it kept on blinking every now and then. The room itself was gloomy and it looked dusty and old. He looked around for a change and then approached the X-ray lighter. He flicked it on and he saw a picture of a ribcage with... something in it. "What the fuck is that an ear?" But just as he was about to squint closer, the light frizzled out. He was quiet for a second. "How insane would you have to be to eat someones ear? I mean.. that's not really an accident, right?" He turned to look at Alexei and whatever the boy was doing. ♠[Rin]♠
„Huh, maybe you really are crazy, considering how much you know about hospitals and mental hospitals.“ Alexei didn‘t really mean it, he knew that everyone had once been in a hospital. He himself had once broken his wrist during the attempt of punching Adachi in the face in third grade and instead hitting the wall because Adachi had dodged. He knew hospitals fairly well, but this didn‘t seem like a normal hospital at all. It gave off the creepiest vibes, though that was a bit exciting indeed. Adachi told him that it was usually the ones back in line that were gotten by the killers, but Alexei simply crossed his arms and tsk-ed. His classmate eventually agreed to going first and Alexei followed him through the ominious double door. Cold. Alexei rubbed his hands over his arms as they stepped through some kind of fog or maybe dust that lay in the air. He closed the doors behind them and blinked a few times to make out any silhouettes. For some reason, he couldn‘t hear the chirping of the birds anymore. There was a window with metal bars outside on the left side which made Alexei narrow his eyebrows. Maybe this really was a mental hospital after all. Or a prison for that matter. His mother worked as a lawyer and he knew a lot about how and where dangerous people were locked up. Though nowadays they were treated far better than back in time. This building could be many years old, maybe old enough to have treated their patiens like animals. Alexei‘s eyes were stuck on the window for a moment. He flinched when Adachi suddenly grabbed his hand and dragged him over to another door at the end of the another corridor that was locked with a scanner. „I am not a child, you know?“ Alexei said, sliding out of the other‘s grip, but he was still glad that their vision was way clearer here. This felt like a cheap horror movie. The card worked on the scanner and the doors opened. Alexei followed Adachi inside. The doors closed due to their own weight. The room was like the rest of the building, old and dusty, and dirty. Adachi switched the lights and at first they were blindingly white but they flickered a few times before they were constantly lit, and even after that, they sometimes blinked. It was… it was odd. Weird. Bizarre. Alexei looked around. He walked over to the barred window and looked out. There was the forest, everything was fine… But why the hell did the electricity work in this building? Adachi said something about an ear and Alexei turned his head to look at him. „What? Someone ate an ear?“ he asked, stepping towards his classmate. „I don‘t think eating an ear is that easy either. It‘s just skin and cartilages. But…“ He crossed his arms. „Don‘t you find it weird that the lights are working?“ he pointed out his thoughts. „I don‘t see how this building should have any electricity at all. It looks like it‘s been here for decades. The graffiti on the walls was chipping off too. Nobody has been here for a long time. Unless… there is indeed someone here.“ He checked the time on his watch and frowned. „Weird, wasn‘t it quarter past eleven just ten minutes ago?“ He fished his phone out of his back pocket and unlocked it via fingerprint. „Yeah, it‘s almost half past eleven.“ A what‘sApp message popped up and he clicked on it, then he tsk-ed. „Mira texted me six minutes ago. The teacher is looking for us, looks like the tire has been replaced.“ Alexei typed on his phone that they were not far away, just taking a walk, and would be back in a minutes, but when he pressed send, the message wouldn‘t deliver. Annoyed, he put his phone back into his pocket. „Let‘s go.“ Without waiting for an answer, he passed Adachi by and walked to the door, pulling it open. He froze in place however when he noticed something lying on the floor. It was cut off ear and it looked fresh, with blood sticking to the cut lines. Alexei frowned in disgust. „Adachi, you‘re seeing an ear just chilling on the floor too, right?“
zekusu
Adachi visibly cringed when Alexei started to speak about the texture of the ear and how it wouldn't be easy to eat, let alone to rip off. But then, for once, Alexei actually said something that made sense. But at the same time... "It's probably just a back-up generator. I mean... hospitals have those. In case if someone is in life support. And they presumably wanna keep the people alive." He intended to tap Alexei on the shoulder twice for effort to make this spooky, but then he withdrew away after reading a message from his friend. He decided to check his own phone too. Seven messages from Yami, all in varying stages of worry asking where he was and to message back. He quickly squiggled a horror movie ominous "I'll be back" as a joke and sent it, but it didn't go through. Not in an area of signal, it seems. "Well, I GUESS you tried to make it spooky. Five out of ten." he said, but stopped when Alexei didn't seem to be moving from the doorway. "You just gonna block the way like a Snorlax or you..." he saw the ear that Alexei mentioned. Except it probably wasn't even an ear. "You scared of a scrappy looking worm now?" He brushed past Alexei and lifted up the thing from the floor, but upon closer inspection, it was indeed, an ear. With a pretty jewel-like ear ring. He felt the texture of it between his fingers and then touched his own ear for reference. Yep, this wasn't made out of silicone or any prop stuff. If it was, it was pretty damn good. "Really cool prop. You dropped it here, didn't you? Just to spook me. What a loser. If you want my attention, just ask." He flicked the ear right towards Alexei's face. Although, as soon as the door was closed... it was quiet. Too quiet. And dark. It really shouldn't be THIS dark, even if they were surrounded by trees. Instead of heading to the window to peer out, Adachi himself decided to take a smart step back and used the keycard to get through the door to the hospital room again, all the while dragging Alexei with him. Safety in numbers and all that. Plus, if he got attacked he could just throw Alexei at them and be done with it. He covered his mouth, pondering, as he leaned on top of the nurses desk. "This shit is crazy." He spoke to himself and gathered his thoughts. After he did, he sighed and patted Alexeis shoulder. "This is gonna sound crazy, but... I don't think were in Kansas anymore, Toto." While he thought it was funny, he was also serious. Dead serious. Just as he was about to open his mouth and explain further, the X-ray light turned back on and highlighted the x-ray with the ear on it. It was still there. The light flickered a few times again and then showed a solid picture again. There were lots of fingers in the mess too and it was enough to make Adachi's breath hitch in his throat. If it wasn't bad enough, it had the same ear that he'd been looking at earlier, the jewel piercing and all. It was enough to make his stomach churn slightly and he tried to look for the ear, but it was suddenly nowhere to be found. The light on the x-ray flickered again and everything went dark in the room. He wanted to shout but nothing came out. And just as suddenly as the light turned off, it turned back on again. It didn't make Adachi feel anymore at ease though. If something, the sight of the fingers - now rearranged in the X-ray - were enough to make him want to take Alexeis hand. And he might've, if he wasn't frozen still. "T-this is a joke. R-right?" Y O U __A R E__N E X T
♠[Rin]♠
Alexei frowned when Adachi tried to tell him that a simple ligth switch would work on an emergency generator. „That‘s a load of crap you‘re selling me here.“ Even if the generator was on, there had to be a reason. They were triggered by a failure of electricity and not by a light switch 60 years later. However, the pair chose to leave as also his classmate had gotten a message, probably from one of his friends. They moved to leave the room and since Alexei was internally freaking out about the ear - being sure that it hadn‘t been there before - Adachi thought it was a good idea to shrug it off a joke on Alexei‘s side. The Russian crossed his arms in defense. „Why would I have an ear prop with me? What kind of twisted stuff are you into?“ He reflexively stepped back when Adachi tossed the ear into his direction, disgust written all over his face. „Come on, throw something else at me and see what happens!“ The door behind them closed again due to its own weight and after the sound of it closing, silence set in. No brids chirping, no wind against the windows, nothing. Also, it was suddenly really dark. Maybe it had been dark all this time and their eyes had just gotten used to it or it was one of the oddest things Alexei had experienced. He didn‘t want to jump to conclusions though. This aslyum would remind everyone of horror stories but Alexei wasn‘t into horror at all. He was a fan of western movies. Guns and cowboys was where it was at. Not ghosts and blood. Horror was just boring to him, it was always the same. He couldn‘t even remember the last time he had seen a scary movie. Adachi opened the door for them again with the ID card of that doctor whose name was so hard to pronounce. They stepped back into the room with the x-ray, this time Alexei held the door open just in case… yeah, for what? Just in case what? Suddenly, the x-ray was lit again. Alexei‘s eyes widened and he turned his head to check if anyone, or anything for that matter, might be with them in the room, but he couldn‘t see anything. The x-ray flickered, changing the pictures. It went from an ear to a solid picture to fingers and then the fingers in a different order, an order that spelled three words: YOU ARE NEXT. He stared at it for what felt like eternity. No, this wasn‘t happening. There was no way this was happening. What if it was fake? Yes, a fake x-ray. What if this entire house was just a prop? You know, for … for scary school parties. Adachi voiced his assumption that this was a joke, but neither he nor Alexei were sure about that. Alexei felt one instinct: Running. „I … I don‘t know and Idon‘t want to find out. We‘re leaving.“ Please let the door still be there, he thought. He grabbed Adachi by the arm and pulled him out of the room and through the corridor without any sign of stopping. Only at the double door they had come through he stopped and let go of him. He grabbed the doorknob and pushed it down, but the door didn‘t open. „What the fuck?“ he cursed, trying it again and again. „This door was open just five minutes ago!“ Alexei punched a fist against it and then slammed shoulder against it, but it wouldn‘t move an inch. „This is ridiculous.“ He pulled out his phone and tried calling Mira, and he waited for the ringing, but there was nothing. It took a second or two until a voice spoke into his ear: „This number is not available. Please try another.“ Alexei sank the phone in his hand and looked at it, disturbed. The robotic voice repeated. „This phone number is not available. Please try another.“ But the contact info still read Mira‘s name.
zekusu
Adachi was overjoyed when Alexei grabbed him, but he was too proud to voice that thankfulness when his own damn legs weren't functioning well enough on their own to run. But when pulled along, they worked and GOD had he forgotten just now how his legs work!? Embarrassing. He managed to keep up with Alexei and when the door didn't open, the terror inside of him was palpable. The feeling of something in his throat - when he was pushing the door and trying to kick it open - it felt like whatever was inside of him was growing and growing and growing and he felt like he was going to drown. Somewhat exhausted by the feeling, he left his fist on the door, wrecking his brain for an answer he wouldn't have. It only got worse. Especially when the phone call didn't go through. He didn't have to even try to carefully hear. In this empty hall with nothing but silence, the voice was clear. "What kinda idiot thinks there's gonna be a cellphone tower nearby?" There was no kick in his jab. The usual smugness and superiority he said that shit with was now in the back burner. Although, he really wasn't given enough time to think. "Help! Help me!" Adachi thought that he was only hearing a voice he wanted to hear, but... "Help me! Chii, help me!" The lump in his throat felt suffocating and bigger than it had before, but it didn't stop him from recklessly running towards the noise. "Hold on! I'm coming!" There was only one person who ever called him that. His twin brother. Even though he was older, he was such an airhead and had always been more of the pampered one. The sweet one. And Adachi hadn't been an exception when it came to having a soft spot for his simple brother. Which is why, he was wrecking his brain on why Yami would be here. He hadn't followed them, had he!? That dumb little.. bastard! He followed the voice, deeper and deeper into the hallways and corridors of the strange building and eventually... he stopped. His breathing was heavy and his legs hurt a bit, but... he didn't hear Yami's voice anymore. As he tried to catch his breath, he looked around and... well, he had no fucking clue where he was. He took the chance to look out of the window. The outside was still woods, but it was really dark. He had to squint to see the tree trunks. But it had definitely been light when they came in. And they hadn't even been here for a long time. AND he knew there definitely wasn't a flipping eclipse scheduled either. His breaths were coming out in puffs and he frowned when he realized that... it was cold. Unusually so. "Shit... it was warmer at the door." And he decided to make his way back. "Chii... d-don't leave me." The voice, he heard it so close, but it couldn't be there. Yet, still not being able to ignore that voice, he turned and it was terrifying. It was the twisted body of a man, hands and feet on the ground. The body itself formed a bridge with and obvious twist of flesh in the middle and the same with the creatures throat, which had been sliced open and pulled back as if to make the man look like a Frill-necked lizard, ready to attack. His mouth was split into half and it was grinning devilishly, full of teeth and blood. The eyes on the man were darting from one direction to the other, almost as if ready to detect anyone attacking him. He had no eyelids. The sight was terrifying, yet he still couldn't move. And the voice. It used his voice. "Brother... Don't leave me..." Perversely, the creature licked it's mouth and then started to scuttle towards Adachi, who started to run towards the direction he had come from. He knew he hadn't taken any doors, so he would just have to head from hallway to hallway to hallway. But it was pointless. And scary. "HOLY FUCK ALEX WHERE ARE YOU!?" It was a poor idea to go your separate ways. He didn't feel at ease. Couldn't. Because the fucking thing was scuttling behind him with it's disgusting feet pitter pattering on the floor in the most gruesome manner. Whatever this fucked up amusement park horror house thing was, it was going to age him by fifty years.
♠[Rin]♠
Alexei put his phone back into his pocket. He tsk-ed when he heard his classmate talk about a cellphone tower. „We got messages earlier, didn‘t we? It doesn‘t make sense! We‘re not even that far away from the road. I had signal outside the building!“ It didn‘t make sense. It didn‘t make sense. It didn‘t make sense. Why was nothing making sense ever since they had gone through this damned door?! Adachi was taller and much stronger than Alexei and not even could make the door move. Then it dawned on Alexei. This was a trap. They had run right into it too, into the open arms of whoever was responsible for this shitshow. Think, he told himself. T h i nk . Alexei‘s gaze wandered up to the window. Yes, it may be barred, but there had to be rooms without barred windows, just like there had been some in the entrance hall. Mental hospitals had offices, right? There had be windows that they could break and climb out of… Alexei turned to the other in order to voice his thoughts, but he was met with an Adachi who was hurriedly turning his head as if he was hearing something. Alexei opened his mouth to ask what was going on because he wasn‘t hearing a damn thing, but suddenly Adachi answered a voice that obviously the Russian hadn‘t taken notice of. And to make it worse, he suddenly ran. „Adachi! Wait! What the fuck are you doing?!“ Alexei reached out but he only caught air. He couldn‘t believe what he saw, but there was no time to wonder about it at the moment. He ran after Adachi out of reflex. How was it possible that Adachi was hearing or seeing things he didn‘t? Was there something in the air? Hallucinogens? They ran past the x-ray room and further into the dark corridors. Alexei squinted, trying to make out any silhouettes, but suddenly something wrapped around his neck and pushed him violently against the wall. No, it wasn‘t a wall. His back painfully met strong metal, a door. Only now he noticed that there were cell doors all around him. Oxygen was pushed out of his throat, choking the cry of surprise he would have let out if he could. He reached up to grab whatever was around his neck and his fingers identified it as an arm. It came out of one of the cells and it pulled him up within the momentum, pressing against his larynx strongly. Alexei could barely stand on tiptoes, gasping for air, scratching at the naked arm violently, trying to make the person let him go, but it wasn‘t helping. Tears formed in his eyes due to the pressure on his neck and his heart started pounding wildly against his chest. Behind him there was a small barred window in the door. He could hear how the person inside was sniffing on his hair. „You smell good,“ a husky voice said. „Doc‘s going to like you.“ Before Alexei could react to it, another sound startled him. The sound of a hospital bed being pushed through corridors, but he could not see one. Instead, he heard another voice saying, „Where is the new patient? We have been looking for him for a long while now. Contact Sister Sabrina, I want her to check the cellar again.“ Alexei could finally locate the noises - they were coming from the hallway he himself had come from, and they were coming nearer and nearer. Panicking, he tried to fight the strong around around his neck more, fighting for oxygen while his vision was slowly blurring. When the patient behind him forcefully strengthened his grip, Alexei grabbed his fingers and pushed them back violentely. The man cried out in pain as they snapped and finally redrew his arm. Alexei fell to his knees, coughing and gasping for air. He blinked his eyes again and again to clear his vision. He couldn‘t lose consiousness right now! „Get your shit together…“ he told himself huskily, taking his phone out of his pocket and turning the flashlight on. Suddenly he couldn‘t hear the voices and the hospital bed anymore and as he pulled himself onto his feet and turned around, the cell was empty. „I am losing my mind, holy fuck.“ He was convinvced that he was hallucinating - he must be! - but the pain on his neck and the tears on his cheeks were real. He wiped his eyes and stumbled along the corridor, using the walls as support. „Adachi!“ he screamed. „Adachi, where are you?!“ Once enough adrenaline was shooting through his veins to put him back on stable feet, he sprinted through the hallways, calling Adachi‘s name again and again. This was the patients‘ ward and he was honestly just waiting for anyone to jump at him, but he couldn‘t leave Adachi behind. Something was definitely wrong here. Alexei had run through the ward for what felt like eternity when he could finally hear Adachi‘s voice calling for him. It had come from the right side, so the Russian followed the echoes. He turned at least two more corners until he could make out a silhouette in the middle of the hallway. His flashlight flooded the scene and he hurried over to his classmate. „Are you okay?“ he asked, panting. Then he grabbed the other by the shirt. „What the fuck, Adachi?! You just ran off! We can‘t just separate! We-!“ He was cut off by a sound that was unfamiliar to him. Alexei‘s grip on Adachi‘s shirt softened as he moved the flashlight to the corner and the terrifying view of a naked man on all four‘s, wide eyes and sharp-teethed mouth presented itself to him. The skin of the man‘s neck had been cut and pulled back, now loosely lying on his shoulders, giving him the appearance of a frilled-neck lizard. Alexei‘s eyes moved down to the man‘s wrist where a patient wristband was. He couldn‘t read the number or the name on it, but it he remembered the fingers and the ear in the x-ray. No doubt, this was a mental hospital. „What the FUCK are you?!“ Alexei snapped, taking a step back. The patient noticed the movement and instantly leaped forward. Alexei could feel his heart dropping down to his pants. He let go of Adachi and they ran down the hall aimlessly, followed by the plattering noises of the patient. Alexei could feel his legs getting weaker. Fortunately, they came across a door that wasn‘t a cell. He immediately opened it and after they were inside whatever room it was, he pulled it shut and locked it. There were a few bumps against the door afterwards, but the patient seemed to give up after a few tries. Panting, Alexei leaned against the wall next to the door. He lifted his phone so the flashlight bathed the room in light. Against his expectation, this wasn‘t a room, it was an entire hall. It was filled with beds left and right and there were a few tables in the middle with empty vases. Moonlight shone through the barred windows. Dried blood was on the floor along with teeth, cut off fingers and bones. It reeked of death in here. At the end there was another double door. zekusu
"Leave me the hell alone!" he shouted at the creature, but the childish and excited gibberish noises didn't stop. And it still sounded so much like him that it made his heart hurt. Aside from his heart, his legs were feeling wobbly, his lungs were feeling like they were being squeezed from exertion of running away from this thing and he just hoped that it would go AWAY but it didn't show any signs of getting as tired as he was. For a brief moment, it looked like the scuttler saw something that temporarily distracted him and Adachi took the stance to make the distance between the two as long as he could. But he was only human and he had limits. Eventually, mid-run, his legs gave out and he fell on his knees, heaving on the floor and trying to struggle to catch his breath. He was usually really good with sports, but in sports, you weren't alone... you had a team. If you ran constantly at full capacity, you'd collapse too. And then came a light. He was convinced it was something else ready to kill him, so he just blankly stared. And then it shouted at him in a very obnoxious manner. Just and just, he managed to hold back the urge to grapple the male by the waist and hug him, but instead, he was shaken about by him. It was kinda... nice. To take a break from the running. He swallowed his own saliva, attempting to hydrate as much as he could. "Y-you can't, it-" His sentence stopped when he heard the voice behind him and whatever it was, he knew it wasn't his dear brother. "Uuuuuu brrothhherrr... devour... yes, devour. Eaaat." He couldn't have been the only one to see it either, not when Alexei turned the flashlight to the creature that was making the noise. He'd been preparing to run and the adrenaline that kicked in now that the creature was so close again made him able to stand as he kinda pulled Alexei with him at the same time (and sometimes the other way around), until they found some semblence of safety. Alexei seemed to have a bit more energy to spare as he was the one who locked the door behind them and Adachi jolted forward with every ram the creature made on the door. After banging itself to the door a few more times, it seemed to give up with an ugly howl and then, silence. Quietly, Adachi hoped to hell that it hadn't given someone else in this hallway a tidbit of their location. He looked at the hallway in front of them, the death, the emptiness and the decay of the abandoned building they were in. Once he finally caught his breath, he took a deep shuddering inhale. "This is fucking crazy." His voice was quiet, but due to the hallways echo, it wasn't difficult to hear. Still leaning his head to the door, he looked towards Alexei. "Look... if we're gonna make through this, we need to work together. I don't care what you do afterwards or if you ever talk to me again. But... Fucking hell, I don't think I can survive if I do this alone. So... Let's just bury the hatchet. You can dig it up afterwards." Once he had said his piece, he got up and shook both of his legs and bent forward, stretching his leg muscles. They felt tight and painful, but hell... he had survived. "We need to get out. And for that we need weapons. We might have to be creative with that..." the last part he mumbled to himself more than to Alexei, but he made a move towards one of the beds. It would've been pleasant too, if it hadn't been for the squelch of blood and flesh and bone beneath his feet. And if it wasn't for the location and the restraints on it, the bed looked very comfortable. He critically estimated anything he could use for a weapon and he ended up removing the restraints from the bedframe and he turned it into a makeshift belt. The straps were made out of tough leather and almost resembled belts with their closing mechanism. They could use these to carry things. As for weapons... The metallic bars at the end and top of the would've created brilliant hitting weapons, but there was nothing to saw them off with. This plan would have to proceed a little bit further. "Fuck... You haven't anything sharp here, have you?" He was sure the answer would be no anyway. "Come and help me find stuff. Use the restraints to make a weapon belt. And once we figure out how the hell to get any of these bars out, we'll have some protection too..." Even while he sounded like he was in charge, it didn't stop his hands from shaking or the cold sweat on his skin. His eyes darted to the opposite door in the end, just in case if he were to see any movement from that direction. Fuck, he was feeling on the edge. ♠[Rin]♠
It took some time until Alexei could catch his breath. He could feel his knees shaking, pleading him to sit down - or maybe lie down and close his eyes for good. Relax for a moment, or for even longer. His adrenaline was keeping him up though. He gulped a few times. His throat was dry from all the running and the cold air in this hell hole. Adachi caught himself quicker than he did. He watched the taller one walking over to one of the beds to inspect it. He said something about weapons and that they would need something to sew the bars of the beds off and that they had to fight their way out of this without picking on each other. Alexei laughed. „Surprise, I won‘t toss you into the arms of some … mutation. No matter how annoying you are.“ It was a lame excuse for a joke that not even he himself believed to be funny. And he regretted saying it, but it only made him realize how serious the situation was even more. He wanted to be brave, but it was hard. The truth was, he wanted to go back to the bus and forget all of this, because he regretted coming here in the first place. He regretted finding this school trip boring and annoying. He wanted to go back to the teacher and his friends where he would be safe. The blonde pushed himself off the wall and stepped towards the bed Adachi was looking at, taking the belts. „Okay, but,“ Alexei sighed, „do we actually have the courage to go through this? I mean, hands down, it‘s a solid question. Not that I have a death wish, but still. You have to agree with me that this,“ he gestured aorund himself, „is not normal. We are seeing things, and that‘s the least of our problems. Because the things we apparently hear or see can hurt us. It‘d be a different story if it was like ghosts who flow through us. But while you were being chased by some lizard person, someone tried to strangle me.“ He turned his head, looking around. Did he actually have the strength to survive this? What was he going to rely on? Intelligence? Pure force? Luck? Alexei bent down and pulled the jeans of his right leg up. Underneath, inside his boot, there was a small pocket sewed into his boot. He pulled out a small pocket knife that he offered Adachi. „This is the only thing I can offer you as a saw,“ he said. „Otherwise, I am afraid there isn‘t anything else here. I‘ll check though.“ He walked over to the other beds and also looked under the tables, but the facts confirmed his assumption. This was just a hall with beds and nothing else. „Okay, let‘s think rationally,“ he said despite his heart hammering against his chest so much he feared Adachi could hear it, „this is a hospital. They have operation instruments here. Scalpels, syringes, maybe even a bone saw if we are lucky. But I agree with you, we need big weapons so we can keep those… things as far away from us as possible.“ Alexei narrowed his eyebrows when he remembered something. He turned to Adachi. „Did you see the patient wristband around that lizard guy‘s arm? I wouldn‘t be surprised if we are under some weird drugs, but that doesn‘t mean we can‘t take it seriously. What if there are indeed people here still? What if those people were patients? Something is clearly wrong with this place, I mean, it‘s currently nighttime outside and my watch still reads eleven am, and my phone reads ten to tweleve am, but we have to work with what we‘ve got. So,“ he put a hand onto his hip, „we are in a mental hospital. It was open probably fourty years ago. We know one doctor, Doctor Belaque. We have his ID card, which should give us access to certain rooms. We have to find out what happened here and what is currently happening. If that guy who was following us in the hallway wasn‘t just a monster or a really odd nightmare, then we have to assume that something terrible happened to the patients. Unfortunately, I couldn‘t read the number of the wristband, but there has to be an archive somewhere in this building, most likely in the cellar.“ He hesitated when he thought about what he had experienced earlier himself, and shifted his weight from one leg to the other in an awkward manner, biting his bottom lip. „I know that you heard something that I couldn‘t hear. What exactly was that? And earlier, when I was alone, I could hear a hospital bed on wheels being pushed down the hallway to where I was. This place must be messing with our minds. We have to make sure that we react correctly if we are being targeted individually. That‘s… all I can think of right now.“ If his pulse would stop rising, it would make him think more rationally. He was definitely acting more relaxed than he was on the inside. He didn‘t want to die, he didn‘t want to just vanish. He really hoped that all of this was a joke, that all of what he and Adachi were seeing and hearing was the result of a drug. He was a seventeen year old teenager and he thought of himself as mature, but right now, to be honest, he would feel safer if he could ask his parents what to do. Something that he really didn‘t want to admit.
zekusu
While he was relieved that Alexei tried to make joke of the situation like him, it was obvious that neither was in their element anymore. This whole place was fucked up, unpredictable, scary as fuck and aaaah just terrifying in general. As Alexei spoke, it made him think at the same time. Like hell he had the strength or courage to go through this. But was he going to sit on his ass and wait for the best? Hell no. The sooner he could get out of here, the better. When Alexei had tried to open the door in the entry hall, it hadn't opened. So that meant that there was a gimmick or something alike to one to getting out. This whole situation is scary as fuck. But what could he do if not put on a brave face and try to make the best of it. He needed to get out. He had to make sure Yami was okay. He took the knife from Alexei and started to saw one of the metal bars off the bed, but the results were... lackluster. Every now and then, he hummed in agreement or nodded to what Alexei was saying, because hell, it made sense. And then he snorted in distaste. "Do I look like I had time to look at a bracelet? I was scared shitless." He didn't feel shame for admitting it, but it was amazing Alexei had managed to see a detail like that. Although, he hadn't been trying to run away from the creature like a madman nor followed it because of a voice. He gave up on the metal bar, only mildly sliced, and started to puncture the mattress and turn it into ribbons of makeshift bandages, something that he didn't even want to imagine using or needing. "What really happened was a fucking person. That. THAT fucking lizard thing, wouldn't happen without something horrendous happening to anything!" He sounded agitated. And he was, but it wasn't Alexei's fault. "But if you're right... whatever that thing was, it was still human... once, maybe." he got a bit quieter at the end of the sentence, but he couldn't help but feel uneasy. Whoever had done that, wasn't right in their head. For a brief moment, he stopped what he was doing and he bit down on his lip. "No matter what, we can't separate. It's obvious that separate, where weaker, so the best thing to do would be to stick together." The fact that he had been lured by his brother's voice, the fact that Alexei had heard a bed being dragged and that they'd both gotten touched by something like that physically was big. These weren't just hallucinations and ghosts. They were tangible things. And that made it a whole lot scarier. "Security in numbers and all that." he mumbled to himself. But to be honest, as much as he loved bullying Alexei and seeing him bark back like a little chihuahua, he didn't feel like it now. He was willing to play good if Alexei did. He didn't hold any animosity towards him, but... he wasn't sure if Alexei felt that way. "I... when I ran off, I did cause I thought I heard Yami's voice." Although, he felt like he needed to clarify. "My brother. He's a bit of an airhead and... there's no way in hell he'd survive alone in here." He turned to look at Alexei, visibly upset. "That... that, thing used his voice to lure me in and... boy did I fall for it." A small chuckle, but it was empty. "So whatever you hear... don't listen to it. Let me know if you hear ANYTHING." He put emphasis on the last word, still upset about how easily he had fallen for such a dirty trap. "I- look." He went over to where Alexei was. "I'm scared. Like hell." He showed Alexei his still shaking hands. "But I just can't sit around and do shit. You tried to door, didn't you? And it didn't open. We need to obviously do..." he gestured with his hands wildly, "SOMETHING so we can get out. What that is, I don't have a damn clue, but... I just don't wanna do this shit alone. Nor do I want anything bad to happen to either of us. So let's just... try to figure this shit out, ok?" It was terrible, his voice was almost soft. He pulled away from Alexei and looked at the things he had made: belts, makeshift bandages and other things that might never become useful. "We need something stronger. Like a bone saw. Morgues should have those. Which means we need to find a map. Of some sort. And find out where we are." After he ran away, he'd honestly lost track of where he was. He handed over one of the belts for Alexei to put on. "At the moment, your knife is the best weapon we have. I'll keep it on me, but... I'll also go first." He looked at the door at the end of the hallway and swallowed a bit. He made sure both of them were ready to leave before he made his way to the door and opened it. This time too, the door creaked, but he looked around carefully. He used his phone for light and he didn't see anything else out of the usual, nor did he hear anything out of the usual. It seemed like the hallway was empty. He let out a relieved sigh and went through the door, looking both ways while keeping Alexei's knife in his other hand, ready to go. He hoped that Alexei was near too, but instead of looking, he decided to trust the male. It was ridiculously tense. The hallway had nothing but the echoes of two sets of foot prints, yet Adachi almost waited to hear a third pair join in anytime soon. But nothing happened. As it turned out, the room they were in was another hallway. There were a few doors, but they didn't seem to be named after patients or numbers. They seemed to be... holding rooms. He only peeked into a few of them and after that lost all nerve to do so, but he kept on flashing the plates to see if there was anything interesting. And there wasn't... until they found the Nurse's station. "C'mere." Adachi motioned for Alexei and then went to the door. He took Mr. Belaque's card and slashed it through, but... "Red?" He murmured, but then after a few thoughts, realized why. "We need a nurses card. So far, we only have a doctor's one." He frowned. "Fuck." Yet, he quickly recovered from the quick burst of anger. "Right... maybe we gotta go through these different rooms to see if the card is there? I mean... if you were a nurse and you got hurt by one of these... things, you wouldn't get very far, right?" He hoped it was true, but at the same time... he really didn't want to deal with anymore strange bodies than he already had.
♠[Rin]♠
„Okay, I got it! Now stop yelling at me and calm down!“ Alexei hissed as silenlty as he could. Adachi‘s hearbeat had to be up his throat and he was fighting the agony of fear, but in that moment Alexei didn‘t take that into consideration. He didn‘t even think of it to begin with, he had never accepted anyone raising their voice towards him because it irked him for a reason that he didn‘t even know himself. He sighed and slapped his hands into his face, waiting desperately for his uneven pulse to go back down. Adachi, apparently, was convinced that they had to be courageous. That they had to fight and not separate at any cost. That they had to trust each other and always stick together. Alexei agreed, and he decided to shove the stinging fear he was feeling in his chest aside for now. He knew how fear worked. He had to convince himself that it wasn‘t scary, that it was okay. The blonde drove a hand through his hair; the strands fell back into place right after, and he took a deep breath through his nose and exhaled through his mouth. „That‘s true, your brother wouldn‘t even go in here,“ he said. „But that means that whatever is here, knows us well. Which.. makes things even shittier than they already are.“ He couldn‘t beleive that that lizard person had used Yami‘s voice and Alexei hadn‘t been able to hear it. There was no way he could fathom what kind of protector instinct must have kicked in inside Adachi and it made him understand why he had run off without a second thought, then again, it was still stupid to just leave. They both could have been hurt! „A morgue… great.“ Alexei mumbled. He didn‘t even want to see that. Hopefully it would be empty. While Alexei adjusted the belts around his hips, Adachi kept his knife - which seemed harmless and useless compared to the evil they were facing. The whitette told him that he was scared as well and his hands were trembling like nothing he had seen before. And his voice sounded so soft as if he was talking to a kid or a girl. He had seen Adachi asking girls out, he always grew into a softie, that fucking macho. „Hey, hey, hey, realx,“ Alexei said, lifting his hands in a defensive manner. „It‘s fine. We‘re fine. Don‘t do something because of adrenaline shots though, you get me?“ Adachi went first. Alexei stayed close behind, trying to step quietly on the ground. It was so silent again, it really made his stomach turn. And while he had been hot and panting before, he was slowly growing cold and goose bumps straightened the small blonde hairs of his arms. They walked down the next dirty hallway and for a long time there was nothing but their footsteps audible. Once again, the building looked like an abandoned asylum and it made Alexei question his sanity. This was… just an old fucking hospital. Jesus Christ. Let there be one window that they could jump out! They made it to the Nurse‘s station after the rooms there were empty. Adachi tried the doctor‘s card but it didin‘t work. „Hm.“ Alexei let the flashlight of his own phone sway around the empty surroundings. Only papers, dried blood and dirt on the ground, nothing of importance. „If I were a nurse.. and my patients were to attack me… where would I go…“ The light met an Exit sign. „Surely not to the exit. To a phone maybe. Or if I was a patient, where would I drag the nurses to…“ He walked past the station and inspected the end of the hallway. In the corner there stood an empty wheelchair and a two more doors. He tried one, but it was locked. Then he tried the other one, which luckily opened. Well, one could argue if it was luck. Once the wooden door creeked open, a terrible and nauseating smell met him. Alexei shielded his mouth and nose and narrowed his eyebrows. It was a small room with shelves filled with medicines. From the ceiling hung the headless body of a male nurse that had completely bled out, coloring the once white floor in so much blood that it was black and not red anymore. In the back lay two other corpses with a lot of teeth marks, missing huge pieces of flesh at certain spots like the faces, the necks and the shoulders. Their green uniforms were bloody and ruffled. Their faces were unrecognizeable, not that Alexei wanted to look at them, in all honesty. Alexei reached up with a trembling hand and took the nurse card off the hanging body‘s clip, then stepped backwards and pressed the door back into its freame with his foot. He shook his head, trying not to remember what he had seen, and just passing it off as something that hadn‘t been real. He handed Adachi the card, „try this,“ while he took a moment to fight the nausea rising up inside him. And even worse, that only meant that there was not only one monster here. There were many more. zekusu
While he listened to Alexei speak, a chill went through his spine as the male next to him mused about getting attacked by the patients at the asylum. "A room they can't access. Somewhere close. With a lock." he mused to himself and wasn't even sure if Alexei had heard him. When it came to wondering where the patients would drag a nurse... "A room they can access. Somewhere close. With a lock." He shuddered at the thought, imagining the lizard man grabbing someone and just devouring them where they are. He hadn't even realized that Alexei had moved away from him, but when he did, he followed to where Alexei had gone, suddenly feeling really uneasy about the distance between them. Even from a distance away, he could smell something iron scented and nauseatingly rancid. It made him gag, but he managed to turn around and swallow it down, reducing it into an uncomfortable noise. He got a waft of it again when the card was handed to him, but it was less nauseating, the only reason why he didn't throw up there and then. Reluctantly, he took the card from Alexei's hand and looked at the male. He looked... pale. A small grin appeared on his face. "I'm not even going to ask what you just saw..." And for once, it wasn't a daring taunt, but rather the truth. He fumbled his way over to the nurses station's door and then swished the card key through the reader that went green with a loud beep. He groaned. "Let them know where we are any louder, will you!?" He hoped that his dare wouldn't be taken seriously. He opened the door with a creak and was met with a hollow noise, as white as a sheet when it came towards him and made him fall backwards with a yelp. And just as quick as he had seen it, it was also gone. It left him with a hammering heartbeat and suddenly he remembered he was supposed to be breathing too. Quickly, Adachi regained his composure and mumbled something about a slippery floor before he went further in. The nurses station had the glass blinds closed and not even broken, which surprised him the most. Wouldn't this had made the most sense as a hiding place? He didn't give his imagination more time to run wild, before he made his way towards the desks at the nurses station. They were covered in... something, but he held his breath and decided not to identify the covering substance. Instead, he went through anything useful on the desks and anything within hands reach of them. He came up empty, aside from a keyring set for the night nurses. He dangled the keys in front of him and frowned. That gave them... more access again. He took a deep breath as he turned around to look at Alexei. "I found the keys for the night nurses I think... which means we should have access to a lot of things now." He dangled the keys in front of the blonde. "But we need to think again. Is there anything here that could help us? Liike... any incriminating evidence or... such?" He frowned. "If they're spirits... They probably exist here for a grudge or for some kinda regret... and if we can find that, we should be able to leave." Now he definitely sounded insane himself. That, or he just played too many video games. "You.. don't have to take that seriously, but it's just an idea." He huffed before he started to look through the things in the nurses room to see if he could find anything like a cabinet full of patient files to find at least... something! ♠[Rin]♠
Adachi said that he didn‘t even want to know what Alexei had seen as he took the nurse‘s card out of his trembling hand, and Alexei agreed. Whenever he blinked, the view that had burnt itself into his brain flahsed back up. Seriously, he would rather take some drug right now to forget this image. He followed his classmate into the nurse station and behind the counter. The door opened with a loud beep that let the fine hairs on Alexei‘s raise. Within this silence of the life-threatening trap that his building was the beeping noise felt like a betrayal of their location and Adachi thought the same, cursing at the system. The thought of being followed and prayed on gave him the creeps of the century. Reflexively, Alexei looked over his shoulder, but there was nothing, he didn‘t even dare lift his phone to flood the corridor with better light in fear of spotting something that he didn‘t want to see. As his eyes were scanning the area, Adachi suddenly screamed and fell back right next to him on the ground. Alexei immediately took a step back and pointed his phone‘s flashlight at the open door frame, but there was nothing. His heart was beating up in his throat. His hands were shivering. Before he could ask, Adachi said the floor was just slippery, though Alexei still had a bad feeling about it and entered the room with extra caution. The room was more or less a disappointment as it was filled with files not really medicine, though Adachi had something else in mind. „Good, sounds good,“ Alexei said upon Adachi finding the keys of the night nurses. Even though he wasn‘t sure if he could still do this, he kept his thoughts and his panic to himself for now. He felt the sudden urge to grab Adachi‘s hand, but he didn‘t of course. It didn‘t make sense to him. It was just the fear he felt, he told himself. „A grudge?“ Alexei furrowed his blonde eyebrows. He wasn‘t so sure about that idea, but it sounded logical for ghosts or whatever those creatures were to be here because they were mistreated. Maybe they were out for revenge. After all, the guy who had choked Alexei earlier had gave him the illusion of being a patient as well. Despite Adachi adding that it was probably nonsense anyway, he started looking through the files. Alexei‘s eyes scanned the area and he couldn‘t help but not feel the thrill of finding whatever his classmate was looking for. In fact, he would probably freak out more. Still, it was an idea and it was also the only idea that they currently had. The windows were barred, there was no way out. The doors were shut tightly. „What if they looked just exactly the way they are looking now? What if someone did something to them?“ Alexei guessed. „Torture, experiments, who knows? This asylum is really old. If anything, people could have been here one hundred years ago already. And I guess… if you are looking for such material, the nurses wouldn‘t have them. I think the doctors would have them. The files should be in some kind of archive, no? Maybe in the basement?“ Going to the basement sounded like the dumbest idea he had ever had. Honestly, swallowing a Tidepod would have been a better idea than that. „What do you think? It makes sense that they are not human. They vanish into thin air. And unless we are dead too… they are not obeying normal physics, pointing towards the supernatural.“ The thought of him and Adachi having died without them noticing crossed his mind for only one second and yet it made him sick. He still felt pain, right? His heart was still beating, yes? What if it was an illusion? What if being dead didn‘t mean that one couldn‘t feel anymore? What if, what if, what if? It was obvious that they were lacking answers, and poundering about endless questions would help, so he shook his head and tried to focus on the task at hand: discovering the patients‘ history. zekusu
"Well, it's not like you actually have to believe me." Adachi huffed under his breath. He came from a family of priests and priestesses, of god killers, and spirit hunters. He had only heard of tales, but nothing very exciting... Though, his mother always told him to "never anger the spirits. They're in pain and they cannot depart. Be kind and gentle." But what the hell! How is he supposed to be kind and gentle to a spirit that literally runs backwards and is bent!? And when they flash at him from nowhere. There HAD to be some kinda limit to this. Some kinda unknown and unspoken rule in between the living and the dead. Fucking hell, he hoped he could call his mother right now. He nearly missed out what Alexei said, but he managed to catch the last part. His hands stopped fiddling with drawers and papers for a second and he started to feel cold sweat on his back. "Are you listening to yourself right now?" A brief pause, just in case if Alexei hadn't exactly caught up on what he just had suggested. "Like, are you? Because that plan sounds like the EXACT OPPOSITE of what we should do." He hated to admit it, but when he played video games, the dumbest ass ideas were always the ideas that lead towards the good end of the game. Like going into the basement of Mr. Barrows' mansion in Clock Tower. How was that going to lead into a good ending anyway!? For a brief while - as his mind wandered to Alexei mentioning that they might be dead too - he looked at his hands and as if to confirm it, his hand reached out and caressed Alexei's cheek. Upon contact, Adachi looked almost surprised, if not baffled. "Huh..." He'd never touched Alexei before this - aside from fisticuffs and beat ups - but all of a sudden, the comforting feeling of another human was... nice. As soon as he realized that he had something weird as hell, he pulled away. "Well, looks like we're still tangible beings." And with that, he started to look for what they needed. He didn't find anything interesting, even after what seemed like a long moment of silence. Nothing jumped out at him, spirit, or otherwise. He furrowed his eyebrows briefly in frustration as they went through the very last of the files that the nurses station had. "Nope... nothing. A dead end." He sighed out loudly and leaned onto one of the desks at the nurses station. "Plenty of files, years, pictures and numbers, but no mention of mutilation whatsoever. Unless cutting with intention of suicide was any part of it... Highly doubt it tho." He turned to look at Alexei who didn't seem to have found anything more interesting. "I hate to say it, but... I think we need to go to the basement." He didn't know which he hated more; agreeing with the blonde or knowing they had to go down to the basement. Adachi stalled as much as he could, ensuring they had ANYTHING interesting and necessary that they'd found and making sure - double, triple, - that they had the prepared weapons. After that, he left he nurses station (with a loud creak of the door) and steps that sounded just as loud in the empty corridor. He had no memory of the map and where they were, but he knew he regretted not taking it with. It would've helped their sorry asses a bunch. Instead, they wandered around, peering into rooms and eventually finding a step of stairs going downstairs. Adachi felt extremely antsy, for a while nothing had jumped at them, there was no steps following them, there was no spooky noises from the rooms, nothing. It was just him, and Alexei, and this empty hospital... mental ward... thing.
♠[Rin]♠
„Hm. You know, it doesn‘t really matter what I believe. We are stuck in here and if we don‘t do anything, I am going insane, I am sure of that.“ Alexei genuinely didn‘t care at this point what the truth was, he just wanted to get the hell out of there and go back to his normal life. Rewind that he had dared Adachi to go into this building with him. Return to the bus with the brocken tire. Start over. In front of his mind‘s eye the so sought for scene of them both leaving this builing behind because the bus tire had been repaired, getting scolded by the teacher and then climbing back into the bus played out. For a moment he could see every detail in it. But Adachi‘s sudden response ripped that illusion apart. His voice pulled Alexei back into reality and noticed that he had been staring at the other without noticing. Adachi didn‘t seem to have minded though, he just raged about how stupid the idea of going to the basement was. „This isn‘t a game though,“ Alexei said and crossed his arms, his brows slightly narrowed in annoyance. „You‘re too impulsive! We have to tackle this the way it is - reality. And our lives might be at stake, so either we are trying out all theories available or we die. And I don‘t like the last option.“ Adachi didn‘t really want to hear that. He went back to searching the nurse station and Alexei just sighed under his breath. He picked up files that lay scattered on the floor, piled them up on a random desk and looked through them. However, his medical knowledge was very limited and he hardly understood any of what was written in those files. There were a lot of words that looked like Latin and even more abbreviations. Amazing how doctors and nurses knew what all this meant. And he knew that trying to understand would get him nowhere. He plopped the file shut and noticed motion next to him. As he turned his head, he saw Adachi coming closer. He raised his hand and gently ran his fingers over his cheek. Alexei froze in place, completely unused to this behavior. Adachi had never touched him like this before. During their fights was the only time they even tolerated physical contact witch each other. How was it that Adachi could so carelessly do this now? No, he didn‘t seem careless, he seemed more in a trance. And while Alexei rose an eyebrow, surprise lit up in Adachi‘s face. Either he had noticed something or he was thinking the same as Alexei. However, he didn‘t say anything, just that they were still tangible. To Alexei that wasn‘t exact proof that they were still alive. That guy earlier had not just touched but choked him. Did Adachi really think it was this easy? Or did he just not want to accept that it may not be? Alexei knew that Adachi came from a priest-family, he knew a lot about this supernatural stuff, but even he seemed at a loss at this point. Plenty of arguments lay burning on Alexei‘s tongue, but he swallowed them. This was not the right time to argue about something they wouldn‘t be able to determine or confirm, even he knew that. Adachi went back to searching the files. Alexei‘s eyes fell back down to the pile on the desk before him. The touch of Adachi‘s fingers was still there; a tingling sensation on the exact same spot. He felt the urge to wipe it off, but that thought on the other hand gave him goosebumps all over his arms. He shook his head and forced himself to focus on the task at hand. Adachi came to the conclusion that the nurse station was a dead end that going to the basement was indeed their next step. „What? You‘re afraid of a basement or what? Got no balls after all,“ is what Alexei would have said if this death game wasn‘t after their lives. He felt like joking about the situation to cope with the stress and on the other hand he felt terrible about it. That knot of conflict tightened in his chest and he desperately wanted to just give up on everything. In this moment Adachi was probably the reason that forced Alexei to keep going. They left the nurse station and wandered through the halls spelling ‚caution‘ in capitals on their faces. They were jumpy at this point, even expecting to be jumped, but nothing happened. Alexei couldn‘t decide whether the spirits were just watching them or were really not present. Or that maybe this really was just hallucinations. If there was gas in the air that made them hallucinate, what were they going to do? Correct, nothing. Just deal with it until they would find an exit. They eventually found a staircase. A sign that had once been white was nailed onto the wall next to them, spelling ‚Basement, Archives, Warehouse, Morgue, Disection Room‘ next to an arrow that pointed downwards. It was pitch black down there. Alexei swayed his phone‘s flash over the stairs. They were freckled with dirt and a sticky substance which was reflecting the light. It was half-dry and black. ‚Blood‘ was the first word that popped up in Alexei‘s head. Alexei didn‘t even ask, he went down first. The stairs were stable and intact. The reiling was too, mostly because it was made out of metal. The staircase split into three parts, every one turning 180-degrees, making it a remarkably long way down. The air got colder and stickier the farther down Alexei stepped. His shoes made no noise on the tiled stairs, which was good, he thought. The more invisble they were the better. However, walking around with flashlights probably wasn‘t the best way to be invisible. The stench of blood and rotten flesh soon reached his nose. Struck with disgust, Alexei frowned and pressed a hand against his nose. Gross. Absolutely gross. Once he stepped down the last step, he gently moved the bright white flash around. It was a corridor like upstairs, just smaller. A lot more signs pointed to the few doors that were left and right. Something was dripping from above. Alexei could feel his heart grow cold in the moment a single drop fell into his beam of light, scaring him to the point where not even a sound left his throat. Carefully, he raised the flash to the tall ceiling. There were long lamps which had long been broken. Shards of glass had scattered on the floor as a consequence. From the lamps there were ropes hanging that had been knotted onto them somehow. But what was really terrfying was what the ropes were holding: It was arms. Single arms. Dozens. Cut off by the elbow, they were hanging from there down. What the fuck, Alexei mouthed. Some of the arms had bite marks in them, others were missing pieces of their flesh to begin with. But most of them still had all five fingers on them, which had naturally curled into the palm. They looked old, cold, dead for sure - how come there was still blood dripping from them? And to make it worse, they were slighly moving, as if they had been poked or freshly put up there. There was no breeze let alone wind here. It was phsycially not possible for them to move. Blood that looked fresh had formed solid puddles on the floor. A few streaks from those puddles led over to the left wall. When Alexei followed it with the flash, the white light iluminated the white wall on which the words ‚Will you give me a hand?‘ was written in what looked like to be the blood of those arms. So, someone was indeed down here, but the more they stood there the more time they wasted. All Alexei could focus on was to find a way out of this hell before it would crash down on them harder than they could imagine. He expected it to get worse. So much worse. „What do you want to check first?“ Alexei asked Adachi, pointing towards the signs. „The morgue is here too…“ He could barely say it loud enough for even himself to hear. He didn‘t feel safe here at all, he wanted to go back upstairs instantly. He felt sick, almost ready to vomit. But he knew that fleeing wasn't going to get them anywhere and he had a hard time convincing himself of that fact over and over again. If they really wanted to find out what ‚this grudge of the ghosts‘ was, they had to investigate this place.
zekusu
The silence was deafening. There was absolutely no noise, which made even the slightest noise their steps made sound too loud. Partially due to that, Adachi nearly reacted to every sound in alert, stopping every now and then to confirm whether he had only heard the echo of their steps, whether someone was trying to recreate their steps or whether there was actual foot steps behind them. Whenever he was content, he started making his way forward once again. Unfortunately, the peace didn't last long. They stood in front of a door next to a dirty plaque, you could still tell the words on it; Basement, Archives, Warehouse, Morgue, Dissection Room. Adachi swallowed and nearly suggested for them to a very swift U-turn, but before he had a moment to comment, Alexei had taken charge of the situation in his stead. He felt like he had lot in a way, but at the same time he didn't really care anymore. This started off as a fun pokey-fun pissing contest but now that things were fucked up (in more ways than one) he couldn't be bothered to make fun of the situation anymore. Quiet, but ready, Adachi kept his weapon at ready to swing at the first chance of danger. The way down was pure torture. Their steps barely made noise, but the occasional uneasy sound of a water drop (or something else...) really kept him at the edge. At the same time, he was almost expecting for something to crash upstairs and start chasing them downstairs. The thought made him feel really uneasy and he stepped a little bit closer to Alexei, just in case. Alexei was too much of a wimp to be able to fight if things got serious. Yes, that's exactly what it was. He had a near accident when he stepped too far on a step and he slipped, but his quick reflexes allowed him to catch the ground on time to stop him from further damage. Whatever was on the stairs, it was sticky and honestly, he didn't even look when he smeared it onto his dark uniform trousers. The incident made him twice as careful on the way the rest of the way down, but still aware enough for him to keep an eye on their backs as well. He stumbled slightly at the end when the stairs ended, expecting another step, but he didn't make a fall, but the smell caught him off guard. It was a smell he had gotten used to in his youth of living at a shrine. Although, partially it wasn't even the smell but rather the air around here. It just felt... tangible, which made him feel at unease. It could have been his slight sensitivity to the spiritual world, but there was something in here and he wasn't even sure if he wanted to find out what it was. "I hate it when video game logic is correct." he muttered quietly, expecting Alexei to flip a switch on his whole video game logic commentary. When there was no quip, he looked around to where the light was pointing to and he almost wishes he hadn't. The arms hanging from the lamps, rotten but still bleeding. He heard the question, but he really didn't hear it per say. He took a shudder of a breath and turned to look at Alexei who was covering his mouth and nose. In a momentary lapse of judgement, Adachi took off the jacket he'd had on and tossed it over Alexei's shoulders, pulling one of the free sleeves to cover Alexei's mouth instead. "I know it fucking smells, but anything is better than this." he himself hoped he would have something to hold back the smell as well, but instead he just pulled up his shirt and covered his nose. He paid no mind to the text on the wall and brushed past it, hoping it would be a figment of his imagination, as he continued forward. Before he went too far, he made sure Alexei was following him and that the male was within an arms reach. He made sure of this by practically dragging Alexei with him by the arm. He stopped at a door that he felt the least "disturbance" from and looked at the plaque. Archive. He took a deep breath and opened up the door. The room smelled musky and cold, making Adachi feel uncomfortable. "We need to find out more information..." he mumbled loud enough for Alexei to hear and entered the room, but soon froze still. There was something in here. He was afraid to look and see but they wouldn't be able to go around... whatever this was. He took Alexei's phone from the male's hand and whatever it may have been, it did not prepare him for what he saw. The best way to describe it was a bloody snowman that was made of nothing but stripped raw flesh, the head night severed from the rest of the body, hanging by a ligament. He could clearly see the white of the spine, veins pulled to their limits to hold the lump in the air, attached to hooks and even the esophagus (or whatever tatters were left of it). The main cord with the noose was pulled taut and whatever little skin there was had been pulled to it's limit and held by hooks and veins, making this lump of flesh look like a frilly necked lizard, the skin itself full of holes with obvious teeth marks. And the worst thing was that this thing was still alive, breathing, and staring right at them. Briefly, his judgement lapsed. "Don't look at me." The words left his mouth before he could stop them, the corpses eyes moving around wildly and then setting on him again. It made him feel extremely uncomfortable as he clutched the weapon in his hand. And upon an impulse he moved. The sound of metal on flesh was deafening. The creature was like a bloody pinata. It took a few hits before the flesh held by hooks ripped by the force of the strikes and it hit the floor with a loud thud, squirting blood. It didn't make Adachi stop either. He beat it and he beat it and he beat it until the head and the spine were separated from the body and the last breath of the creature turned into a gargle and then silence. But there was none, Adachi kept on hitting on the lump of flesh, viciously, blood squirting onto his feet and bottom of his trousers, the words "Don't look at me!" repeating almost as if the dead creature would be able to take it's bulging, staring eyes away from him. He stopped only when he lost all strength in his body, his legs collapsing under him and the words "Don't look at me." repeating quietly. Looking at the scene, you wouldn't know whether it was addressed to the creature or towards Alexei. On the floor there was a name pin that had probably fallen at the same time as the human pinata. If one would wipe off the splattered blood, the name Dr. Arden Belaque was visibly inked and carved into it.
♠[Rin]♠
Adachi didn‘t hear his question, or maybe he did, but he chose to ignore it. Alexei wasn‘t going to judge him for it, it wasn‘t exactly what one would like to think about or make a move on. It was, in fact, a rather vague question as well, because the answer would be: the exit. They desperately wanted to check out the exit, if only there was one. It was absurd to think about what they were trying to do; instead of looking for any kind of exit, they were trying to play an Outlast game in real life, and it was straining Alexei‘s nerves to the point of which he wasn‘t sure if he was feigning courage or if he was becoming more and more indifferent as he stepped forward, because, thinking that he was going to die anyway made it easier while thinking about dying made his flight instinct kick him which he was trying to push back into the back of his brain so desperately. Without providing an answer, Adachi first took off his jacket, and Alexei narrowed his eyebrows in confusion, but blinked when the jacket was put around his shoulders and the sleeve pressed against his nose and mouth. It was supposed to help him fight the smell, which was … kind, but how did Adachi think of this gesture to begin with? They moved on, or rather Adachi moved one, and Alexei followed. He followed blindly. Wherever Adachi would go, there was a 99 per-cent chance that Alexei would be on his heels. There was no way he was going to stay behind. Not again. Not after almost being choked to death in the entrance hall. The very thought of being alone brought down his body temperature, made him shudder, caused the fine strands of hair on his arms to stand up straight. Plus, on the tactical side, Adachi had the knife. On this note, Alexei wasn‘t sure if he could fight. He liked to pretend that he had balls of steel, that he was invincible, that he was untouchable, but he had to face the truth in the worst way possible. This truth was that he was everything but courageous when his life was at stake. Unconsciously, Alexei reached out to Adachi‘s shirt, but his fingers stopped just an inch before they could hook into the material. What was he doing, exactly? There was no way they could stop. There was no way they could take a break. They had to move. They had to move. They had to move. They had to move. Alexei repeated that sentence over and over again. The smell around him turned his stomach. Maybe he should have thrown up earlier, then he may be feeling lighter. On the other hand, his body needed the energy that he had left. To run. It was tough fighting the tightening knot in his chest, fueled by fear. As a counter-measure, he quit thinking and just stared at Adachi‘s back as they advanced, Adachi holding Alexei by the arm. He didn‘t even know what to say to that, think about that, how to react to that, so he simply didn‘t. He let himself be pulled along until they found a door where Adachi halted as if he had met a wall. Alexei, puzzled, looked over Adachi‘s shoulder. The sign read Archives, and, in fact, the name made Alexei forget his worries temporarily. He had never been into horror or anything related to it, but it would be interesting to find out what this hospital was all about. Adachi said that they needed to find more information. „Let‘s just hope nobody shredded it“, Alexei replied. „I mean, considering the state the hospital is in, I don‘t understand what happened. Did it just close? Did no-one care? Did something happen? I mean, of course something happened, but…“ He had a point, at least he thought so, it just became immensly hard to voice his thoughts and explain his thought process. Maybe it was the lack of oxygen, maybe it was the fatigue of being scared. They walked into the archives. Alexei closed the door silently. In his head, it was more secure that way. However, as he turned to move forward, he was met with Adachi‘s back. „Huh…? H-hey, Adachi…“ Alexei stepped to the side, checking Adachi‘s face, and there he could see it. Something was wrong. It sent ice-cold goosebumps down his spine. Adachi had an affinity for the paranormal or supernatural, whatever was the correct term. Alexei did not. There was no way in hell he could interact with, see or feel ghosts, demons, the fucking devil and whatever other stuff was out there. The deceased‘s world was completely and entirely separtaed from his senses, and he didn‘t know - couldn‘t decide - whether that was a good thing or not. Didn‘t people who had an affinity for that stuff get possessed easily? Or found? Or forced to interact? He had seen one episode of Ghost Whisperer when he had been a kid and, even though there was no way that he could provide a solid and correct theory about ghosts of all things, it just fit the situation perfectly. He should have given that conclusion more thought at the time, but he didn‘t. Couldn‘t. He wanted to cling to his drugs-in-the-air-theory so badly that it was starting to not only hurt his head but also his soul. Adachi took the phone from him and swung it around to whatever he had felt, but there was no way they could have been prepared for what it turned out to be. The first thought Alexei could muster was that it wasn‘t of threatening nature and that it wasn‘t about to jump them with a row of sharp teeth. And the second thought that came to him was nothing because he turned around and emptied his stomach in the corner right next to the door. And then he heard it. "Don‘t look at me." The phone dropped to the ground with a clatter. It landed on the display, spewing its flashlight up to the ceiling, illuminating a good ten-meter-radius. Alexei jolted back up, swallowing stomach acid with force, but when he turned to see, it was already too late. Adachi was slamming the rod he had found earlier into the half-dead man. Over and over and over and over. And again, again, again, again. "Don‘t look at me. Don‘t look at me." Again. "Don‘t look at me." Wide-eyed and frozen, the oxygen was stuck in Alexei‘s throat. He couldn‘t blink. He couldn‘t turn away. He couldn‘t rip his eyes off what he saw. Watching Adachi as he beat the thing into a lump of flesh, a pool of blood, a mere puddle of bodily fluids with cerebral matter swimming in it. Only when it was unrecognizable, Adachi stopped, and time stopped as well. It became silent, pressuringly so. Adachi stood with his back to Alexei, covered in blood splatter, gripping the rod which had long since turned black from the blood, and the tips of his shoes dipped in that pool that used to be a man. And he continued to say the same thing: „Don‘t look at me.“ Whilste Alexei didn‘t know if he meant the human remains or him, he also couldn‘t grasp it. There was no way he could be looking away, and in this very moment he saw no reason to. There was no judgement forming in his head. No thought. He merely stepped forward, one hand extended, past the phone on the ground. His large shadow strolled along the walls over to Adachi‘s, where it mixed once they met, as Alexei stood right next to him. „A... Adachi.“ Alexei‘s voice was far from firm. It was barely above a whisper to begin with. He tried to make eye-contact with Adachi, desperately looking for life in his eyes. „Adachi. Hey, hey…“ Now he did reach out for real. He carefully touched his shirt and tugged on it with two fingers, not breaking the eye-contact. „Hey, look at me. Are you okay? Your hands must… hurt like hell.“ Stabbing someone took a lot of force on the wirsts, but beating someone to death required even more strength. It had to have hurt. There was no way it hadn‘t. Maybe Adachi just hadn‘t felt it. „Hey, come on, look at me. Not to the ground.“ Alexei raised both his hands and placed one on each of Adachi‘s shoulders to keep him still. „Just me, okay? Just me. I am here.“ He tried to make Adachi turn, and when he took a small step, he noticed something under his foot. Surprised, he looked down to what he had almost stepped on: it was a name tag, like those that the nurses had. It was covered in blood but it was also wrapped in plastic, so he was probably in good condition. Alexei looked back up into Adachi‘s eyes. „Come.“ He pulled him away from the pool of blood and over to a single chair that stood against a wall. There he pressed him to sit down and then re-adjusted the jacket around his own shoulders so it wouldn‘t drop down. „Just sit here for a bit,“ he told Adachi, „no moving away.“ Alexei walked back over to the puddle, but he avoided looking at it directly. He kept his eyes on the name tag, which, once he was in reach, picked up and shook some of the blood off. The rest didn‘t come off, so, and he hated himself for this, he wiped it off with the edge of his t-shirt. The disgust was washed away by surprise a second later however when he read the name on the tag. It was the doctor who‘s card they had had, and if that thing had been the doctor for real, then something so terrible that it just had to be beyond their imagination had happened. Seeing how that lizard person had looked, a possible explanation would be that the patients had somehow escaped and done the same to their caretakers which they had had to experience themselves. Just thinking about that theory being true was horrible, though, and Alexei was struggling to cope with the chance that it was correct. He didn‘t want to believe it, he simply didn‘t. And he didn‘t want to be here to see the proof. He clipped the name tag onto his jeans and just in the moment he did, an idea hit his head like a bucket full of water. He was ready to discuss it with Adachi, but first the had to make sure that he didn‘t suffer a major shock, which wouldn‘t be surprising, though. It was just that … it would be a little inconvenient right now. „Adachi?“ Alexei walked back up to his classmate. „How are you feeling? Besides… the obvious. Can you stand?“
