E.r.o.s
Welcome to my first discussion on photoshop basics. As mentioned before, I will be using Photoshop CC (2014), but any other version of photoshop will suffice for now. If you have any questions on how to download this version, PM me. This series of discussions will be simply a way to get started on getting to know photoshop and how to use it. It is designed to serve as a review for those of you with some experience, and to teach everything from scratch to those people that are absolutely new to graphics. We will be using helpful existing tutorial videos that I've come across in the past, or tutorials made by myself (hopefully not needed) to guide us through the learning process. This series will be followed by another series of tutorials slightly more advance, but first we need to focus on getting everyone to be comfortable using all these tools that photoshop offers. Remember that other members would be offering slightly more advance tutorials along the way for those of you who have already worked with photoshop before, and simply want to learn to do specific things. So, with that said, let's get started. L E S S O N 1- P A R T I The first thing you want to do when opening photoshop, is to make the space you will be working with look comfortable. You should have everything you will be using for now available to you in your workspace. First of all: The things you want to have in your workspace for now will be: - History - Brush - Properties - Layers - Paths This list might become bigger in the future~ How to get your workspace to look like this? Steps: 1. Open photoshop 2. Click on Window Tab 2. You will see the list of things you have available to you, simply click the ones you want to appear on your workspace and drag them to your right. Arrange them whichever way you want. To get rid of any bothersome tabs simply select Windows tab again and click the one you want to get rid of. L E S S O N 1- PART II Once your workspace is ready, you can start finally experimenting with your tools. Look at your left. You will notice a set full of tools you might or might not recognize. In order to use the tools, you must first get to know them. With that in mind, our next step is to learn the use of each tool and how they work. For that, I am gonna make use of this playlist of very good tutorial videos I found on youtube. I was gonna make my own, but I think these ones are very well explained, and I am not sure I can do it better XDDD EXERCISES: I want you to watch these videos and then every time you finish watching one, attempt to do the same thing you watched on your own. Also, for every tool you will try out the following things and see what happens: Alt+Drag/Click Shift+Drag/Click Command+Drag/Click Alt+Shift+Drag/Click For selection tool: Alt (+ -) Subtract/Add to selection To open a new page on photoshop follow these steps: 1. Open photoshop 2. Click on File 3. Click on New 4. Click on Presets and change it to Custom 5. Change your resolution to 300 (Everything looks good in 300) 6. Adjust your width and height (I recommend doing so in pixels instead of inches, ect. I personally use Width: 800 Pixels, Height 670 Pixels) 7. Make sure Color Mode is in RGB 8. Click on OK To open a picture in photoshop, follow these steps: 1. Click on File 2. Click on Open 3. Browse the image 4. Click on Open Link To Playlist: DECLAIMER: Credits to creator of playlist (infiniTuts) That's all for today's lesson, post about what you learn bellow and if you have any questions~
