<3Gaara
I went to a party, and had to dress up as a band member, and being the anime nerd that I am, I decided to dress up as Shuichi Shindou (Gravitation), my costume was a little inaccurate though. One person at the party knew who I was and I felt really out of place because everyone else was wearing black. So has that happened to you, you show up in a costume and either nobody or very few people know who you are, it's really depressing D:
Shiho Sasaki
if it is a cosplay then i don't see any problem when you are cosplaying as shindou.. XD i mean every cosplayer must have been thinking those things as well... what you must do is be proud! not everybody has the guts to cosplay and i really appreciate those who are cosplaying even though they are not perfect... even though you are different alone but don't be afraid of being different...
boysbeforeflowers34.
I totally agree with you Shiho Sasaki!! >3Gaara you shouldn't feel out of place, who cares if everyone else was wearing black!! At least in the Yoai community we know Exactly who you are trying too be!!! I don't have the guts cosplay, like what Shiho Sasaki said be proud, and maybe next time if you ever go to a party. Bring friends who will cosplay with you so you won't feel out of place!! Well.. thats my opinion!! :hamtaro-005 (5):
yojichan
Awww cosplay talk brings back memories of my active cosplay life. I have been in similar situations. the trick is to keep breathing. breathing life into the character you cosplay. so you cosplayed Shuichi in a room full of people in black..who cares? Shuichi IS a band member of a super popular music group. what's not to like? In a herd, it's always best to stand out. I cosplayed as Tsubaki Imai of the Johnny's Entertainment pop duo Tacky and Tsubasa. Me and my friend cosplayed as the super duo in a video game convention. Now if that's not totally out of place, I don't know what is. LOL. We didn't care. We even danced onstage amidst the crowd of GAMERS! We were having way too much fun to bother noticing. I think that's the main point really...just have fun. I also cosplayed Tetsu of L'arc en Ciel in an anime convention. I was the ONLY Tetsu too. But I yelled 'MINNA, GENKI?" and the crowd responded happily. So really, just have fun. who cares? It's just cosplay. When people take it way too seriously and out of context, that's where it starts to suck. No one's happy.

Or in other way This year I was cosplaying Wallflower character sunako. imagine, I was so into my character that i almost shut down that place. XD So don't worry, everything happens in this life. In few month, you will remember this fact with laughter.
Nitro+Chiral_Fan
Being a cosplayer myself, I can relate to your situation. There's definitely some sort of "path" to go through as a cosplayer, and sometimes, especially when you're starting to cosplay, you'll feel out of place and you'll be thrown back because of how people look at you. Don't worry, it all goes away eventually. Cosplay is about having fun! It's about you and what you like, not about what others think. Don't quit cosplaying is my best advice: the more you'll do it and enjoy yourself and have fun, the less you'll care about others. You know, odds are, at that party, you were the most original, the person with the most guts, and that's an amazing thing ^__~ So don't let others bother you! I have tons of tales of people looking veeeeery weirdly at me for cosplaying XD Just a few months ago, I was heading to a convention with a friend of mine. We were cosplaying Togainu no Chi, I was Arbitro and she was my Akira. And since we couldn't change at the convention directly, we had to do so at my apartment, which is a good hour and a half away in metro from the convention place. We jumped in the metro all dresses up, wigs and pink feather boa and all, and my Akira was on a leash. Needless to say that the 100+ people stacked in the metro ALL looked at us with horrified looks on XD And I just laughed it off and had lots of fun because of how uptight these people were. So in other words, don't let that get to you, screw the others, and keep having fun ^__~ Aside from that, Shuichi is an awesome cosplay that you should keep wearing. cat_greenmoon
I think the only time I actually cosplayed was one year for Halloween I went as Sailor Jupiter (I was like 14). Didn't really have anything happen with that. But I do know that last Halloween I saw a girl (mid to late teens) dressed as Sailor Chibi-Moon and I know she said she kept having people ask her if she was Sailor Moon. I gave her credit though. It takes a lot to walk around town in nothing but white and bright pink. The way I see cosplay though is that if your not going to have fun doing it, then don't do it. Whether your costume looks absolutely amazing, or you're missing a few things, as long as your happy that's all that matters. I definitely want to do it again (preferably sometime soon since my stint as Sailor Jupiter was nearly 7 years ago now >.
Amander123
I'm new to cosplaying. I just recently got my first outfit so I haven't really had a lot of experiences yet, but I did dress in my cosplay for Halloween and actually went around to get candy at houses XD I suppose I kind of felt that way because everyone kept asking who I was and even if I told them they still didn't know T_T It was indeed depressing. My cosplay was Alois Trancy by the way. And that's me in my avatar XD
Yurusumaji
I had that happen at Halloween when I was young and I was Lily Munster. This year I went as Robin from Teen Titans and I was the only one in costume. T_T

gin
I did cosplay some. And yes, it's awkward at first but then later on--you'll get used to it. It's funny how you enjoy and act like your character. It's a matter of confidence and fun, I guess. The awkward part is the eyes of the spectators, they silently criticize you but who the hell cares---it's you having fun anyway.
didz015
hmmm,, i totally agree with the previous comments,, i think cosplaying is all about HAVING FUN... and who cares what you wear, as long as you are enjoying it and you love then don't mind others,, who knows,, they might be appreciating you and saying, COOL in their minds... i think that time in what you said, in the party.... YOU ARE NOT OUT OF PLACE,, YOU'RE JUST UNIQUE THE WAY YOU ARE... and you stand out,, maybe the others are even jealous of you because of what you wore that day.. maybe some even wanted to take a picture of you, but is just ashamed,, just continue doing what you love to do,, .. more power for you.. Ero Gaki
I've never been into cosplays, so i understand only a little. But you can't expect everyone to know that chara you are cosplaying, so don't let it get onto you.
