unseenstars233
Hello! Yesterday I finally successfully downloaded, installed and attached ATLAS to Gakuen Heaven. I was so excited and ready to play the game that started the Anime and Manga I love. Sadly, even though I translated it in ATLAS and sometimes google translator I can only really understand half of what they say in game . I'm a real story person, so this is a really disappointing outcome for me. Now I'm not going to stop playing, since I went to so much trouble and there are some yummy pics to look forward to, but it still kind of sucks not knowing what they meant. How do you all deal with the bad translations? This can extend to fan translated or even official BL games (oh how few of those there are though T_T).
Jin.
Well to be honest, its quite hard to translate a game from Japanese to English, don't blame the programs. The best option I can give you is: Learn Japanese, by, your, heart. If not I can't help you since its 'always' bad translated (English to Japanese, e.g reverse) but you can correct some Japanese (Kanji/ Hiragana/ Katakana) words and write the right spelling with it. Go to translator editor > Dictionary > Add word > Write the correct english word, and then the Japanese unicode under it. I can't help you better, the only thing I can say is that and maybe you can correct the sentence in your head by your self.. (:
unseenstars233
Oh I wasn't asking for help, I realize there's not much I can do about it haha. I was just curious to how other people feel about it and how they content with it. For example (I'm not sure if this is all ATLAS programs or I just did something wrong) ATLAS14 some times wants to pick and choose which words to translate and the rest it just changes the lettering but not the meaning. I have been just plugging the same phrase into google translate and combining the two to make sense of it. Maybe someone else actually knows the words if they are in roman letters or something so that's no big deal to them. I totally wish I could speak Japanese. That would make things so much easier haha
Jin.
I know, but I gave you some advice how I deal with it, (: And that I agree that ATLAS translated bad,
chiakaiyuki
Aha, I'm used to it, traslating many things from many languages... Usualy I google a few pharagraphs, then go back and edit it, changing words untill it makes some sort of sense... But it only gives an idea as to what it's about... Untill I learn japanese XD
DontBeASourLemon
Bad translations drive me nutty so I usually only play translated games once I was playing a trial version of a translated game Please Register/ Sign In, in order to see the links. and it was really bad if you look at the image of them talking in the background on that page you can see an example. I really appreciate and love the amazing people who translate games as I love playing yaoi and otomes however its hard with bad translations I just want to whip out a red pen and correct it to a readable level. So I mostly wait for things to either get translated by a group and work on my non-existent Japanese skills.
RicoTyrell
I play some hentai games FOR bad translations! Cause I find that really funny for some reason
shemica
As for me, I'm fine as long as all the characters speak out loud in Japanese, because I understand a little bit of spoken language. But I get annoyed whenever there's a game in which the protagonist doesn't speak. The most important thing to understand the story are dialogues after all. Ventamus
Well I have no other choice but to put up with the horrible translation of google translate lmao usually I would try to grab the general idea of translation and then make thing up so that it fit the story line hahaha
