Several close friends of mine are somewhere within the LGBT spectrum and I'd be a real tool if I didn't support their lifestyle, but it's all about equality. Basic human rights are not heterosexual privileges, they're Basic Human Rights. Meaning all men and women, regardless of sexuality, ethnicity, religion, etc., should be allowed to practice them. To me, denying the LGBT community basic human rights is no different than when they were denied to people of dark skin color. What gender a person is attracted to makes absolutely no difference and there is no reason to judge them based on it. In terms of judging a person based on this matter, it can only be comparable to racism. But even if I only had straight friends, I would have still supported them. They are humans like the rest of us and deserve to love who they want to love. People who discriminate against them really piss me off but unfortunately there are still a lot of people like that *sighs* Even in my country, where gays can legally marry and adopt, there are still a lot of people who think they are abnormal and shouldn't be allowed to be who they want to be. Homosexuality isn't something you just choose to be - it really isn't a choice. Saying otherwise would be ignorant. People kill themselves because they're gay. Homosexuals in some areas are killed. I've seen homosexuals tortured and burned alive. You wouldn't choose to be gay in such environments and if you did, and assumed it is a choice, then you could simply just "switch". However, that really isn't the case. You're who you are. You don't choose to be straight either. If you say otherwise, then you're likely bisexual or something. Simple. People who say that they don't support gay rights and yet watch yaoi, etc, are stupidly ignorant. You use homosexuals for your own pleasure and yet trap them in a world where they're not allowed to be free even though it isn't there choice. That's ridiculous and so ignorant and it drives me crazy (I've noticed some yaoi fangirls do that, apparently here as well - even my ex gf, who was into yaoi was extremely ignorant). I assume the ones who say that are young or have religious backgrounds. You should be who you are. You shouldn't be forced to be something that you're not. If I had pink hair, you shouldn't get mad and stress about it and start taking away my rights for wearing pink hair. It doesn't affect anyone, and if it does you're the one who has problems. Plus, I think it's pretty gross to like (basically) gay porn and not support gay rights because it's like "Gay people only exist for my pleasure, they shouldn't be able to get married or get jobs easily to support themselves though! They are only good when they are fucking!" It's like straight dudes who watch lesbian porn but are repulsed by gay guys and the idea of girls actually being in a relationship that doesn't involve getting naked and touching lady parts.
