"I will protect you, this is war, there is no way I will watch you get hurt!" -- Love Is War, KaitoVER

In futuristic Tokyo, newer and newer types of electronics are coming out each day. However, our energy sources are becoming too weak to support all of these electronics -- that is, except for nuclear energy. The amount of nuclear power plants in Tokyo quadrupled, then quadrupled from that, until the city's primary, if not ONLY, source of energy came from the nuclear plants. Recently, one of the nuclear reactors exploded, and ending up causing a chain reaction, filling the streets with nuclear waste. Only a few have survived, and you are of that few.

Also, yaoi!

"Dude... I think we're the only people left." Kilik said as he stood atop a building, overlooking the city. "I think we might have to repopulate the earth together." he joked.

Kuro layed on the roof, looking up at the once clear, blue sky, which was now a red cloud. He sighed. "That's ridiculous. And even if that was the case, what about the rest of the world?" He looked at his friend, waiting for an answer.

"I got nothing~" Kilik said cheerfully. Kuro sighed again.

"It looks like the streets are clearing up." he said. "Let's go look around."

~K A I S O N O ~

What was going on. It was like the world ended right before his eyes.

He'd been out shooting some photo's with his great grandfathers ancient digital camera when an explosion of great proportions sounded in the distance. The sky had filled quickly with smoke and debris causing people to stare first in amazement then panic when a 'state of emergency' signal came on from their personal comms.

He didn't remember much of what happened after that, only that he had diserted the paniced streets for higher ground and solitude. He now found himself alone atop a desolate rooftop looking down on smoke filled streets. The deadly fumes below had rolled over the earth's surface seeming to swallow the people whole as it had coated the ground in it's mists. But that had been long time ago... the world was now silent.

Kai looked out over the world below. He didn't see much of anything beneath of mists that coated the ground. His comm had stopped functioning completely about 1hr after the disaster started. All he had had on his persons at the time was his clothing, his comm and the small ancient digital camera.

He noticed that the smoke was starting to fade far below him. He gathered courage as he stared toward the fire escape on the side of the building. He needed to find food. He'd already gone about 6hr - at least he felt like that or longer - since his last meal before the sky turned red.

He descended into the quiet world.

Kuro and Kilik walked down the road, staring at the mutated corpses. Neither of them could say anything, until Kilik saw a shadow of a person in the distance. "Kuro." he said, tugging on Kuro's bare arm, since he didn't have a shirt at the time of the accident. Kilik pointed ahead.

"What the hell is that?" Kuro squinted, trying to make out what the figure was. He figured it was another survivor, or a mutant. He didn't want to risk it. But he decided he would.

"Hey!" Kuro called, running up to the person. Kilik followed behind. "Are you okay?"

Kai had been staggering against a wall of a building, unable to look at the bodies that littered the streets. He felt ill. When he heard someone call out he jerked and tried to flee, but his legs gave out from underneath of him and he landed hard on his hands and knees on the cold pavement.

He quickly leaned up wrapping his arms around his chest and flinched as the other approached him. He didn't know what to expect. He'd never been good around others. They always thought of him as weird. He'd always kept to himself and had liked been left alone to study his arts. But now... he found himself shaking in fear as the other leaned over to ask if he was okay.

"I... I'm... okay..." He muttered hiding behind his long bangs. His shaggy mop of brown hair was good at helping him conceal his feelings.

"You're shaking..." Kuro said softly. "Kilik." he turned to his friend who was just now catching up, and snapped his fingers. The brunette understood, and handed his jacket to Kuro. "Here." Kuro smiled, and held the jacket out to the boy.

Kai looked up from between his bangs, his grass green eyes showed fear and a hint of curiousity. As the other offered him a jacket, Kai found himself instead looking at the other naked torso. Kai flushed, and dipped his head once more, hiding beneath his bed of hair. He nodded slightly, as the other helped but place the jacket over his shoulder.

"Who.. who are you?" He managed to ask, when the other eventually helped him to stand back on his own two feet.

"Kuro Amane." he smiled at the boy, man, or whatever word you wanted to use. It was obvious he wasn't used to people being kind to him. Kuro wasn't either, necessarily, though he was generally a rather cold person to begin with. He wondered why he actually wanted to help the other.

Kuro was about to say something else when Kilik interrupted. "AHEM." he said, and loudly at that. "I, am Kilik Rei."

Kuro sighed. "Are you sure you're okay?" he asked again, giving the stranger a worried look.

Kai nodded faintly, his looked up slightly at Kuro then stole a quick glance at Kilik before his eyes darting back down to the ground. "I should go home..." he mumbled softly.

He wanted to make sure none of his art was damaged and see if that stray cat that liked to hang out on the fire escape was okay. That cat was his only friend after all.

"I... should go." He removed the jacket that other had given him and bowed slightly as he returned in. "Thank you..."

"W-wait." Kuro said, grabbing the other's arm. "You really shouldn't be by yourself." he smiled.

"Yeah," Kilik said. "God knows what kind of fucked up creatures are lurking around."

Kai froze when the others firm grip stopped him from leaving. He looked up directly into the others eyes, for once face to face. His green eyes shown with fear before changing to worry. His pale complexion seemed to grow even paler at suggesting them going all together.

"I... i'll be fine..." He looked away, unable to keep eye contact.

Kuro let go of the other's arm and looked to Kilik, who shook his head. Kuro sighed. "I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable..." he said, smiling. "But if you need something, anything, we'll be lurking around the city." He smiled warmly at the other.

Kai nodded soft, pulling his wrist to his chest and held it there. It seemed to radiate a warm heat that he found he liked. Quickly he shook his head to vanquish the feeling.

He caught the two giving him a strange look, but he was used to that. He turned his back to them before he spoke. "Thank you..."

He then took off at a fast walk towards home. He lulled his head and still clenched his wrist to his chest protectively. He could still feel Kuro's hand as if it was still gripping his wrist.

"You dumb bastard." Kilik crossed his arms, looking at Kuro. "That was the stupidest thing you've done in a very long time. What were you thinking?"

"What?" Kuro asked, offended. "A shirtless man that demands he follows you is borderline sexual harrassment."

"So?" Kilik laughed. "What is he gonna do, write a letter? Oh I'm soooo scared~" he said sarcastically. Kuro was about to say something, when they heard a loud noise coming from behind. Kilik screamed.

"What the hell?!" Kuro yelled, turning around to see a large amount of nuclear waste running down the road like lava. "Oh shit..." They started running down the road, in the direction the person from before went. They didn't get his name, so Kilik just yelled, "PERSON WE MET EARLIER!" Kuro sighed as he ran.

Kai had only made it about a block when he heard the shout from behind, the turned to look and saw the two from earlier barreling towards him. He let out a cry of fright and was about to turn around and take off running himself when his gaze moved behind them to the multicolored river of liquid that he understood that they weren't after him but running away from something.

He stole a quick gaze at the road he's was headed and realized he wasn't that far from his apartment building. Would they be safe there? He looked back down the road and almost sighed in relief that the building the liquid passed by were still standing. His building should be safe...

"This way!" He managed to cry out, the two were only about 10feet from him now. He took off running down the street the two on his heels.

A block and a half, they should make it to the fire escape in time.

Kuro and Kilik ran. Kuro caught up to the stranger and was running right behind him. Kilik, on the other hand... "Wait up!" The brunette panted, sweating dripping down his shoulder length hair.

Kuro sighed, and turned around, running the other way. He grabbed Kilik's hand and pulled, running back to catch up withthe stranger, dragging Kilik behind.

((Since Kilik is another one of my yaoi semes - actually he's a seke - you can have your pick between the two as the story progresses. ^^))

Kai led them to the fire escape on the side of his building. He had to jump to grab the ladder, pulling it down so they could use it to access the stairs. He always wondered why the building had never upgraded to the newer versions of fire escapes, but for now he was grateful as he pulled the old creaky ladder down and climbed up it in record speed.

Once on the bottom of the stairs he was about 8 feet off the ground. He turned to help the next person up the ladder.

"Hurry!" He said as he spotted the nuclear waste starting to come down the beginning of the alley way.

Kuro pushed Kilik towards the fire escape, who frantically began climbing up. Kuro sighed and got on, moving calmly but swiftly. Once at the top of the stairs, he looked down. Where they were standing not 5minutes ago was now covered in toxic waste. He shuddered.

Kai sat panting on the 3rd step of the fire escape. He looked down at the toxic waste flowing only 4feet below them. "That was close..." he barely whispered. He looked at the two beside him. He was glad they were safe.

He pulled himself to his feet and looked up the stairs "I.. i'm on the 5th floor..." He wasn't really comfortable inviting the two in but he couldn't just leave them stranded on the fire escape either. He just hoped his room whats as messy as he thought it was. He was known to leave unfinished paintings and sketches all over the place.

He started to moved up the metallic stairs, peering over his shoulder occasionally to see if the others were following him or not. When he reached his window however he stopped up short. The glass was shattered going inward.

((Was thinking many the kitty friend maybe got mutated))

Kilik quickly hid behind Kuro, peeking behind the raven haired man's bare arm. "What was that?!" he panicked. Kuro gave him a look, that said, 'And you call yourself a grown man.'

Looking into the apartment Kai was frozen in fear as he saw something lurking in the shadows in the room. It looked huge. But what could it be. A dog? It looked almost larger then that. A lion!? A Tiger?! He felt sweat started to roll down his face. He gulped and took a step backwards only to crash into the safety cage, which creaked noisily from the unwanted pressure. The shadow inside his apartment suddenly froze and seemed to turn towards them. Kai let out a little eep and felt like running and cowering behind Kuro with Kilik, but his uneasiness about the others stopped him.

Slowly a creature, like none he'd ever seen before moved into view from the window. It was huge in size and almost looks like a mix of all the giant cats he'd read about in the history books. It was lean like a jaguar with fur long like a lion's mane around it's face. It's body was striped like and unlike a tiger and it's fangs hang out of it's mouth like a cyber-tooth tiger. But it's eyes... they looked so familiar and so soft and gentle. The creature let out a mewl like no other before it launched itself out the window and stacked towards him.

Kai shook violently and clenched his eyes shut waiting for the worst. But nothing happened. Instead he suddenly felt a large snout rub against his side. He cracked an eye open to look down at the large cat that came up to his mid chest. He locked eyes with it before realization dawned on him. "Leo...?"

Kuro moved slightly, to protect the stranger from the large cat, when Kilik grabbed his arms, holding him back. It looked friendly enough, but he held his guard.

"Um..." Lkilik said. "You know that monster?" he asked the stranger. "And you NAMED it?!" He laughed. Kuro shot him a look.

"He... he was a cat..." Kai reached out to stroke Leo's large head. "A... a cat... he used to hang out on the fire escape... a loner like me..." When a purr grew from the larger creatures throat he started to relax. This was Leo, the little cat that he'd befriended on the fire escape. "I named him after my favourite artist of the old ages... Leonardo da Vinci."

He could tell the others were looking at him but he didn't mind. "He's my only friend..."

Kuro and Kilik looked at each other, then at the stranger.

Kuro was about to say something, when Kilik interrupted. "You never told us your name." he said. "Spill it."

Kuro glared at him. "You sound like a pedophile..." he mumbled.

"Coming from the guy without a shirt!" Kilik scoffed.

Kai flushed at the statement, then let out a little laugh as he watched the two have a short argument.

"Kai..." He said looking back down at the large cat before him, unable to look the others in the eye. "Kai Sono."

He stole a quick look up from under his bangs at the Kuro a moment later, unable to keep his eyes from not drifting back to look at the other handsome young man.

Kilik left his position behind Kuro and smiled slyly at Kai. "I already introduced myself, but in case you forgot, I'm Kilik." He took Kai's hand and kissed in, in a faux gentlemen manner.

Kuro smacked him in the back of the head. "Pervert."

Kilik looked up at Kuro. "I am not!" he pouted. "Am I pervert?" He looked at Kai, making puppy eyes.

Kuro smacked him again.
