This is one of those stories that has a unique and interesting way of portraying a fetish. I wasn’t sure what to think of it at first but I ended up really liking it more than I expected. The artwork is expressive and appealing to look at. The characters are likeable as well, even with their idiocincrisies.
The relationship is between the main character Hotaruda, who is an easygoing and innocent manga artist, and his pervert editor Kayama who is a masochist. Despite the flaws both characters have which makes them more human and real, they are very likable.
One of the things that I really liked about this story was the fact that Kayama who is a masochist, is the the typical over-used masochist that you tend to see in Yaoi manga, he gets off not by pain, but by the look of disgust that his partner gives him. He is able to push Hotaruda’s buttons which to get what he wants.
But despite all of that their relationship does grow towards the end and even Kayama shows a bit of emotion that is clearly hard for him to do which made for an endearing moment. But even with that, neither of the characters change drastically and remain themselves which I like. It’s a more realistic thing that would happen when you have someone like Hotaruda who ends up with such a person like Kayama.
My only complaint about this manga would be that I wish it was longer than one volume. I feel it could dive into more depth with the characters and the relationship between Hotaruda and Kayama. But even though I feel it’s too short, I still enjoy reading it.
There is dubious consent and if you aren’t into that, this is not really going to be for you. But if you are looking for something different, and something that isn’t a long read, I recommend this one. It’s one of the few I enjoy rereading when I want something that is amusing and has some hot sex scenes.
