Post’s Author Opinion:
Note: This is a personal opinion, it does not reflect YaoiOtaku’s official position towards the manga.

“Nii-chan” is one of Harada’s most controversial works up to date, i would even go as far as to say in the whole Yaoi genre.

The take on this disturbing topic is as serious as the subject itself and depicts a very realistic case. Yes, some scenes are upsetting but the way the mangaka looks at this issue makes the reader actually think about the norms of society, also how to think and feel about others orientation/ preferences that aren’t compatible with ones own moral standards and that whatever happened in the past has a great influence on the development of a person. Harada even managed to turn the tables and make you sympathisize with the culprit. To be honest, i even fellt really sorry for both towards the last three chapters and hoped for a happy future for the odd couple. You might find yourself in a similar same position.

This manga was a eye-opener for me in many ways and furthermore confronted me with thoughts i in all honesty had before but didn’t dare to take things as far as harada did. I think it is a important piece of art since it makes people aware that love is a very complex thing and comes in so many shapes and colors, even when it’s sometimes more or less hard to accept or understand.

One thing is certain; that this story has the potential to be used as foundation for some really interesting discussions. So if you are curious and don’t mind heavy psychological stories with deep thoughts you have to put this on your reading list! On the other side, if you got easily upset by what you just read above i kindly advise you to skip this manga.
